I live 160 miles west of Gettysburg. Route 30 runs through my PA hometown. More close to WV panhandle than Gettysburg. Spring is best time to tour around all that cement.
Very cool, you would love Gettysburg, I only live 60 miles east of there and have been there many times. I haven't been to Shiloh or Vicksburg, but last Spring we went to Ft. Fisher, NC, my 3X Greatgrandfather died there on the Union second campaign on the Fort, January 15, 1865. We also traveled to Ft. Sumpter, really fascinating as well.
I would like to tell you how much I enjoy watching these videos where you visit sites that chronicle American history. These museums are great and its amazing how many of them there are in America. Thank you for the trip, great as always.
You should have done this trip in 2013, which was the 100th Anniversary of the Lincoln Highway. I did and it was great, I am from Lancaster County, PA, my Daughter graduated from Gettysburg College in 2000.
Russ!!! I just got back last night from my trip across America equipment and I was looking on the TV and I see you were in Pennsylvania that's so awesome. I was just watching your West Virginia Highway 52 with my wife and you would said look at all the trees that is funny because on my trip when I started out west I was like where's all the trees. Watching your channel has inspired me to make my trip across America since my stroke last year for US Highways this was the first time I was ever west of Pennsylvania. I was blown away by how beautiful our country is the series will have 37 videos 2 videos a week Monday and Thursday. I believe number 14 is this Thursday. I got out to Quartzsite but everybody was gone LOL
I enjoyed your video. I never got to Gettysburg, but your detail is terrific, thanks. I live in Somerset County and am quite familiar with the section of Route 30 @ the current entrance for the Flight 93 Memorial. At 1:27:36, you mentioned that "I guess that this was all farm land here." For any future videos that you might do of the area, this was the entrance to a strip mine. It was after 9/11 that this entrance was closed off and the mine decommissioned.
Awesome , I'm heading to PA in a week's time to my wife's homeplace from Ireland here. Then into Ohio bk to PA and then down to SC ,bk to PA ....I'll have a good few miles of driving under my belt.
I hope you both enjoyed your trip, my GGGGrandfather from Clones County Monaghan, but our Y-DNA confirms that we are Scottish as my GG Grandfather emigrated from Paisley, Scotland to Philadelphia in 1859. I have been to Ireland and it is lovely, even been to Clones. I am from Lancaster County, PA. Did you like SC? My Husband and I drove to Charleston last year on vacation. Did you get out to Ft. Sumpter?
The history you’ve covered… Is palpable. You can feel it in the air. You can almost reach out and touch the past. It’s a feeling that’s almost indescribable. Thank you, Russ, for this.
Russ, I enjoy your videos, especially this one. Thanks for your kind, heartfelt coverage of these horrible events. The Flight 93 coverage brought me to tears.
Most likely is the most haunted place in America. My Daughter graduated from Gettysburg College and the Lutheran Seminary locacted there are both quite haunted. My Daughter had a few haunted experiences at Gettysburg College. You are correct some truly sad history.
Thank you for showing us your travels and your laid back style is comforting to me . I’m layer up in bed with knee surgery and appreciate your shows😊safe travels sir
I was there in 75' as a kid. Was like yesterday watching your video. The battlefields touched me as a kid. We ended up in Washington DC and did all the sites and memorials there. Cheers
Great video!! Brings back a LOT of memories. Gettysburg and the surrounding area was basically part of my old stomping grounds growing up, as I used to visit frequently as a kid 45-50 years ago. I was born and grew up very close to there. I miss that area deeply, as I now live in the South.
I think this is your best video yet!!! Thanks so much for showing us Gettysburg where so many lost their lives for true freedom; and also Flight 93 memorial where once again virtuous Americans freely offered their lives so the terrorists couldn't succeed with their evil plan!!! THANKS Russ.
Enjoyed your video. As someone else who has visited Gettysburg I have to say you miss so much not taking the in person guided bus tour. Our guide was so informative.
Awesome video. I live 30 mins east of Gettysburg in york. The Gettysburg hotel burnt back in the 80s or late 90s. Alot of history and look around theres things hidden that not many tourist would know like the cannon ball. Ever back this way glad to meet up and show ya around Safe travles, Les
although it was not choice to visit musuem of guns and cannon but i like to see graveyards and green lands ,thats why i could skip even a single second of this video .and weather of rain is my weakness .it seems like heaven on earth . but above all of this ,u keeps on talking wont let anybody feels boring ,u are awesome .and your laughter sound is always work as oxygen to your video .thanks buddy .❤❤
We really enjoy all your videos! You’re the best of all travel folks who do this. We really loved this one, as we were in Gettysburg a few years back and you did a great job. Happy traveling! Keep up the great work!!
The video of the Gettysburg Museum was very visible, it probably looked darker through your camera? It was a great trip between the building Lincoln stayed in and all of the guns and artifacts of that war. The most haunting, though, was the Flight 93 Memorial. And that Tower of Voices was something else. Very sad. Thanks for sharing this with your viewers.
Initially, you turned around too quick. Also, this must be an old video. The Tour Center on the Baltimore Pike is no longer there (just removed recently) and your video showed it untouched. I am surprised there is no one at the entrance to the main part of the museum. I have never not seen anyone standing there. I go here every year on vacation but I also drive up there when I am bored on a weekend now and again. You didn't see Sallie Jarrett! Did you know the Lincoln Highway goes East to West from one coast to the next?
I do, and he should have taken this trip in 2013, which was the 100th Anniversary of the Lincoln Highway. I did and so many barns along the way commerating the Anniversary with freshly painted murals, lovely, also getting to drive over the mountains instead of through the Turnpike tunnels.
Wonder how many cannons there are & who is in charge of their upkeep. The grounds are well manicured. What a blessing to have the officer point out the cannonball 😮 My grandmother explained to me the homes have no driveways and the narrow roads had "thank you ma'am" to give the horses pulling heavy wagons a flat area to rest while traversing a hill. I remember shopping at the 5 & 10 cent store with wooden floors in Bangor PA. 🙏🙏💕
I don't know if you knew to stop at the Quecreek Mine rescue site is just a few miles west of the Flight 93 Memorial also along the Lincoln Hwy. It was very interesting, located on a farm and made national news for days at the rescue site for trapped coal miners about 2010 or so. The little museum there has many artifacts from the mine rescue including the actual cage they rescued the miners with. That cage was actually sent to S.A. to Chile I believe when they had trapped miners as well, that particular cage was not able to be used in Chile, but was sent back to Pennsylvania.
We are wondering about your narration. My argument is that it would be more work to go back and add it in later. You’d have to remember the little nuances you talk about. My roommate says you add the voice in after recording. He says you hardly sound winded walking up hills and that your breathing is not on the recording. So, which is it? Do you record your voice narration as you go, or do you add it in post-production?
Stop here 2 years ago and really enjoy seeing this beautiful place
Thank you for guiding me to Gettysburg since I can't go sightseeing there cos of work here in Seoul. Thanks again.
I live 160 miles west of Gettysburg. Route 30 runs through my PA hometown. More close to WV panhandle than Gettysburg. Spring is best time to tour around all that cement.
My hubby and I really enjoyed this video. We have been to Shiloh and Vicksburg, but never got to Gettysburg. Awesome tour!!! Thank you!

We took our daughter to Gettysburg probably about 10 years ago. I'd like to go back some day. Great video, Russ.
The history you’ve covered… Is palpable. You can feel it in the air. You can almost reach out and touch the past. It’s a feeling that’s almost indescribable. Thank you, Russ, for this.
One more thing. Thank you for stopping by the story boards on your travels. Awesome work
THANKS!
Russ, I enjoy your videos, especially this one. Thanks for your kind, heartfelt coverage of these horrible events. The Flight 93 coverage brought me to tears.
I have been to the Gettysburg Battlefields. Very sad part of history, indeed. They say it is the most haunted place in America.

Really enjoy the long form videos. Great way to spend a rainy day, taking a road trip with Russ.
Enjoyed this so much...sad but actually calming. Thanks!
You are right , Russ. There is a huge feeling of "presence" in Gettysburg, even if you're seeing it alone!
Enjoyed your video. As someone else who has visited Gettysburg I have to say you miss so much not taking the in person guided bus tour. Our guide was so informative.
Amazing view on flight 93 !!! 📸🙌🏻
Russ you have done it again. I love to watch your travels.
God bless these familys
Thank you so much for these videos. I like how you get out and walk around. You have really helped my surgery recovery 😊❤

Thank you for the great video and next time you another video do a video of Lancaster PA as well
Thanks for your work
Hey~~~~ Big brother.... "RESPECT U"
I was there in 97 and felt the same way. Very somber. It's hard to understand the scope and how many people died right there.
You did it! Beat me to the punch! Great content.
Love from ❤ India sir ❤❤❤
The cannonball isn't there on Google maps.
I'm pretty sure that the Sheriff's had a good laugh at the tourist's expense.😂😂😂
I did a two day road-trip two weeks ago
Russ the Vlogs are great.....but too long to watch i one night mate...:)
❤❤
Did you see the cannonball stuck in the house on RR 30
There is another statue of Abe there.

To bad the idiots tore down the National Tower. You could actually see the battle fields from high above.....literally miles of viewing.
You seem to not have a clue what happened in and around Gettysburg in July of 1863
