What Woolie doesn't realize is that the Nikke community _also_ loves the mass-produced Nikke. Every time a mass-produced Nikke appears in a side story we all collectively get worried that something INCREDIBLY fucked is about to happen to this precious cinnamon roll, and it happened FIVE TIMES. There are Commanders out there who are _dedicated_ to their Mass Produced squads and will clear high level content using the most kitted out Mass Produced Nikke you've ever seen.
Which is to say, this isn't really a controversial opinion. It isn't even a lukewarm take. _Everyone_ loves mass produced NIkke.
Pinne's truely the mvp of grunt Nikkes.

Pat playing Limbus might be heartbreaking. It’s an incredible game with a great story, and the combat isn’t nearly as unintuitive as sending someone a 20 minute tutorial video off the bat makes it seem. It’s complex, but it pretends to be simpler at the beginning, and then goes “surprise! I’m a fully-fledged single player rpg, with all the combat complexities that entails!”

We need to have a LONG conversation about recommending any game to Pat. Fans of Limbus should know that its audience is niche while also knowing that Pat is one of the least fair, patient people you could've recommended the game to. He was an old man in his 20s and even more so pushing 40.
On one hand, Pat is coming off of the AAAA and AAA gacha games, but on the other hand, he was completely correct in his assessment, you cant expect a player to just remember the color affinities for each sin after you show them the screen once, it should be available at all times, ESPECIALLY in the tutorial. It's also strange how the tutorial treats Resonance and Absolute Resonance as this big deal when it actually means "the second skill is 3% stronger" and "the 3 skills are 9% stronger(and gain +1 Clash Power) respectively. He was waiting for the "special super strong attack" to happen and nothing happened, while I could see he gathered enough Sin to use EGO.
The game has come very far in terms of QoL but the tutorial still has a lot to be desired. The game has a balancing act of either frontloading the player with 10 different mechanics or going VERY slow, and introducing a different mechanic per turn, and it chose to do the latter, while still not fully explaining all the details in the screen.

I don't even watch his streams and know he HATES being given homework or told what to do to "properly enjoy" a game that can be enjoyed by just playing the damn game. This isn't even a kenshi scenerio. Twitch viewers can be so stupid istg.
Yeah the tutorial is notoriously bad and it does not help. For reference, I beat Canto VI and have only been able to stay afloat because I have friends and the discord server is helpful.

In fairness, Nikke-phobia makes a lot more sense when you consider that every single one of them is a weird undead zombie robot girl who literally died and their brain was preserved. To go an extra step, any Nikke not mass-produced looks like either their former, living human self, or a fictional, idealized version of herself just to add to the ‘uncanny valley’ that people must be experiencing when looking at them.

Nikke actually does have a limited time event archive like Pat is describing. Only the crossover events are excluded from it. You also generally have to wait a few months for an event to be added.
Also, I don't know if other gachas do this, but Nikke has a wishlist function that actually allows you to up the probability of pulling specific SSRs, if only slightly.
the wishlist function actually makes it so that any SSRs you roll on that specific banner are guaranteed to be one of those Nikke OR a Pilgrim (Pilgrims are the strongest Nikke in the game, or at least are supposed to be)

Fuck it's a shame you guys probably didn't get to try the original China exclusive version of DMC Peak of Combat. Not many of us outside China did and as someone who put a couple hundred hours into it, both in the first closed beta and the later open one that game was console quality and among other things it took 4 SE Lady, used her as a basis and massively expanded her moveset into one of the most fun playstyles in the genre imo. The mobile game version of Lady objectively made her console counterpart look like a half baked prototype. The version we got over here is beyond dissapointing as someone who spent 2 fucking years hyping people up about how good that game was.

Peak of Combat is legitimately one of the most disappointing games I’ve seen in years if you followed it throughout its development. Literally everything about it aside from I guess the graphics are worse now in every conceivable way.
Forget DMC2, it’s the new worst game in the series. They had a legitimately great game and turned it into a scam gacha piece of shit.
The thing about Limbus Company that has so many people on it is:
It's writing (which is directly tied to ProjectMoon's 2 other games, Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina)
It's cast (ranging from "normal people with issues" to "insane/violet people with ISSUES")
and it's OST (many of the tracks from ProjectMoon's games are amazing, most notably the tracks made by "Mili." Look them up if any of you have the time).
The gameplay is a different beast because... I still don't know how to play this. I haven't watch its fan-made tutorial and I don't blame people who drop it bc if its in-game tutorial being a mess.
Pretty good gacha system though. You already have all the characters right off the bat, you're just rolling for alternate version of the same cast. They're all useful in situation but not 100% necessary through a good chunk of the game.
People were insane for reccing it to Pat, he had a hard time grappling with Star Rail and Limbus is weird even for people who played Ruina.
But yeah, very much a shame he didn't like it. I hope he will eventually try Ruina eventually though

Reminder, barely 3 some chapters into NIKKE's story, you can find a lore bit on the map thats a propaganda poster that asked females in the range of 6-25 age to voulenter (and then drafted) into being turned usually into a mass produced NIKKE that talks about the ACTUAL problem that even Ghost In The Shell doesn't address of dissociation when your in a different robot body when we already have people take psychological treatment for facial reconstruction or limb loss. Also regular memory wipes along with personality rewrites.
One of the first side story contents you get at the Base is a story about an elevator... That ends up being one of the more emotional points of the story as it brings up philisophical questions of the soul, sacrifice, religion, the paradoxical nature of humans and having the chipper and bitter girl of the group says "No, i'm just thankful there is a place for us to go after we die".
This then gets more tragic for Woolie because it involves the mass produced NIKKE and a future story event that makes it sadder.

Nikke's story is so much better than you'd expect. You see the characters and think "oh, its that type of game". But theres genuine quality throughout.

@@RavenCloak13 I mean, even the stories in gacha games that are darker than Nikke, tend to bat so much for that side that it gets exasperating (Girls Frontline and Arknights have “better stories” but they can get annoying in how edgy they go). I feel that Nikke is more balanced than most of this kind of Post Apocalyptic waiifu gachas.
The fact that I didn't hear any mention of DISSIDIA Final Fantasy Opera Omnia just crushes my soul; if you wanted a Freemium game that went EOS due to having too much Game and not enough Gacha, that was the one. 3D modeled, voiced, unique animations with trademark moves, huge list of characters and something I don't recall seeing many other gachas do: CHARACTER REWORKS. Not re-releases of characters with an EX or NV at the end, but a full-on character revisit, turning trash characters into powerhouses or even just becoming viable. By the end, it was honestly rarer to have a non-viable character than a character you could feasibly clear even the highest tiers of difficulty with (SHINRYU). In a cast of 175 (179 in JP). That's NUTS to me.
Yuna went from an honestly-forgettable support character to a damage-support hybrid monster. Yda went from a meme from how bad she was to a meme about how she inevitably wins any fight she goes into as long as she can BREAK the target. Tidus was saved from the junk bin by HIS rework that propelled him into a monster damage unit for his era.
While it was nice to have my favorite characters become viable with updates, some of the changes did feel weird to see in combat. Particularly seeing a character whose attack hits a single target, and for some unseen reason all the other enemies also take half the total HP damage or some such. That has got to have been the most severe case of "sympathy pains" I have ever seen in anything! 😆
...Still sad the game was shut down before I could have my dream team of Yunalesca (FFX), Yuel (FFXIII-2), and Mikoto (FFIX) become a reality.🥲
and you could tell it was higherups at square that shut it down, and the team wanted to keep going... especially with the loadscreens during the wind-down that poked fun at stuff like Rikku from FFX never being added

If the generics are his favorites then he'll probably like Missile's Nikkes, which are more technology based, specially the Matis squad, Syuen's personal hero team, but he'll probably hate Syuen herself, like most people do, he may also like Elysium's Nikkes, which are more military based, Tetra's Nikkes would be his least favorite, since those are the more aesthetic based ones, everyone likes the Pilgrims tho, specially the Vergil's drunk daughter, and I wouldn't be surprised if Nihilister ended up being one of his favorites. I started like a week ago. Got sword lady within like a couple hours. Apparently they're one of the best in the game, at least that's what my super pissed friend told me in rage. Good game, 10/10.

They’ve gone from playing a significant role in one of the main character’s mental breakdowns to being the core part of the Nier collab.

As an avid Nikke player if you're not hooked by fomo you can thrive as a free 2 play player. The drop rate is really solid so PvE is possible for all players.

The issue with Arknights is that tower defense as a genre needs a certain amount of zoom out to work well. The characters being 2D and chibi is necessary when you have certain stages with like 50 enemies on screen at once, 3D would be a nightmare to see everything with any semblance of visual clarity on a phone so they'd have to lower the numbers to compensate, like some of the 3D arknights ripoffs did.
And a lot of stages are really zoomed in, too. Half the time a stage is really small is a full 'oh no' because it means there's going to be all of 9 dudes showing up and they are going to Fuck You
Limbus Company goes so hard, like every episode is better than the last.

I've been playing this game called Isekai: Slow Life. It's a City-builder Management simulation game. It's...alright, it has good unit portraits, and this game basically ONLY character portraits. It did have a Moonlit Fantasy crossover, but the odds to get the characters...were not good. It also has fishing
ive got through nikke buying only a couple battle passes getting most of the limmited time events. my one regret with nikke was not droping cash to get Power during the chainsaw man event.
My one regret is not playing Nikke until after the NieR collab was over.

I had came in on the chainsaw man on so I was racing the clock and i didnt know about the golden tickets at the time . normally I quite good at getting every pull i want for free when it comes to gotchas if I've got the time.

Punishing Gray Raven sounds like the title to an Inti Creates game. Like, I can hear Maxwell Powers say it in his usual goofy trailer delivery voice, the same one he uses for AZUUURRRE STRIKER GUNVOLT.
Any gacha without pvp, co-op or big, unique rewards for doing challenging content (that wants $$$ spent to do realistically without a bunch of RNG) will feel less scummy and usually have a happier player base.
To me that's basically mihoyo's secret. Toxic players are filtered by there being no pvp/in-game rewards for completing content at the highest levels. Anybody who is mentally well is only doing anything in their games, including spending money, because they find it to be fun. For the mentally unwell, gacha is always to be avoided entirely with no exceptions.
It's probably fortunate for me that Nikke made a story decision around chapter 11(?) that I hated to the point of quitting the game. I would be a poorer man today if it hadn't.
Ah yes, a similar situation to Blue Archive having a whole set of "mob" characters be Sukeban and with such a loving fanbase of just them. There's a whole market for C level and even "generic/plain" girl waifus that it's just as much a measure of a game to let you buff all the no-star girls to have has much stats as any other meta pick

You can get the premium currency super easily for free, and the only gacha in the game is for support characters and weapons. The supports give you special abilities and effects, and the weapons are self-explanatory.
There is a stamina system, but you get items that fill the stamina back up super easily.
Like that he put liter in the thumbnail because not only is she SSR but shes also a Meta Nikke aswell. ignoring her because she doesnt fit his style is such a woolie move.
Even though she actually does but her helmet isn't covering her eyes, she has a bigger personality then his stunted and mind wiped personality reinstalled faceless drone ones.

Since it was brought up, FGO's gameplay is pretty standard turn-based jrpg fare with cards to semi-randomize your available attacks. It's passable, but nobody really plays FGO for the gameplay, most are there for the worldbuilding and character interactions.

I'm certain that if Woolie likes the massproduced Nikkes, he will like Snow White. Design-wise she's basically that but as a "real" character. We love the hungry walking war machine

In regards to a good Gatcha, I enjoy Monster Super League. The energy "exists" but it's basically a joke. I quite literally have over 40k energy over the max of like 10. But every single "monster" can be ranked up (their star value) and evolved (using duplicates to turn them into a stronger form/appearance). Since the game primarily relies on the Gems that you install to buff stats of your choice and passive abilities the monsters have, any and/or everything can be used late game. The game is also extremely generous with the currency that you CAN pay for due to the many free ways to get them. Practically just using functions of the game like evolving gets you free stuff. It's a fun time.
Bit late here, but still holds merit to mention it. I'm surprised that no one in comments have spoke of Last Origin even once. It's all the things that beastlords have talked about in the segment: it is unabashedly lewd, front and center(half of the art is made by hentai artists), it's not a gatcha game despite it looking like one(it just selling skins for set amounts of money/ingame currency), and it's a pretty good game. I would assume someone would speak about it but I guess it's not that known/popular.
Another Eden is seriously a great game, literally from some of the same people who made Chrono Trigger and some of Xenogears

Honestly the gameplay in Fate Go is pretty good.
It's a simple turn based game with 3 types of cards, attack, magic, crit.
And that's it.
But getting a full hand of one type gives bonuses.
And every character has 3 unique spells on cooldown and a super attack charged by using magic cards.
The VN part is great for Fate fans, but generally very basic until REALLY late into the game.

Not exactly a game I'd recommend to Pat in the slightest without an asterisk.
I played Iron Saga because they had a Tekkaman Blade collab, then it ended before I had the chance to fully upgrade all the Aiba siblings. Now they have a fighting game coming out and I feel sad because I have no idea if they'll ever bring it back so I can finish it.

I'm still waiting to see if pat immediately gets put off by blue archive but that one's nice about the gachashit and they have "immortalized" events for ones that have rerun for so long that you can just do it and get the units without having to wait for em now. also the actual field combat is a bit zoomed out but you can see plenty of character interactions, voicelines, all that jazz and the artstyle is consistent through the whole game. Also you can do the story without having any characters since it gives units scaled to the chapters and you don't have to do missions to unlock em any more. you'll only be grinding or going for meta shit for the high end bosses if you care about em.
Woolie has good taste. Booty is amazing, yes, but those grunts look like Power Rangers. Like, hello?!?
So pretty much everything I know about Nikke is just via osmosis. But I'm pretty sure you can and probably will be able to clear content with the non-SR/SSR units? 'Cuz I remember someone telling me I if I played, I could eventually just make a bunch of units "match" the level of my strongest ones eventually.
I imagine that stat boost(assuming the R Nikke have a lower level cap like say lower rarities do in FGO), combined with whatever equipment(probably where you'd need god rolls if there's RNG statsticks anywhere if not some busted synergy/supports), will at least enable you to clear through the story with ease. It'd probably take a lot more to do whatever the current hardest content is with low rarities, but I think just playing through the story/events casually, you'd be able to make it with relatively few roadblocks.
The only real major roadblock in terms of progression really has is the late game gear grind and the 160 wall that you can only get by leveling up 5 limit broken SSR’s to level 200 to break the level cap.
Besides that the campaign is super easy up to a point so if Woolie wants to use the Nikke grunts till then he can but after that nah lol he’ll be stopped straight up.
If Woolie really wants to use mass Produced NIKKEs for everything he just can. He'll need 5 MLB SSRs to level to 200 to unlock Synchro Enhance, and then the Synchro Device breaks all level caps. Heck, even without 5 MLB SSRs, he can still use it to get the R NIKKEs to level 160 instead of 80.

On the topic of "fairness" i generally view games with fewer types of draw currency.
Like you can have free draw tickets that don't give you anything good, but if i see "Paid Tokens Only" that's 2 out of 3 strikes for me to uninstall

some recommendations for Woolie of gacha games that are "more game" than gacha, I feel Guardian Tales is perfect for this. You can play so many hours without even touching the gacha. And its hella fun, while having 2D Zelda gameplay.

I feel like I've had this same experience in a number of other gacha games where my favorite units were typically the lowest tier. Goddess of the void with huge story implications? Nah fuck that, I want the character who's just a rookie trying his best and it's clearly not good enough.
Woolie with the trash fire takes (though he is right, Nikke is good). Also this game might have one of the most generous gacha systems I've seen. If you do the super quick events and dailies you can easily f2p get pretty much every character. I've never spent a dime on it and I have 90% of the SSRs. You can even get them from the Friend Points or the purple/gold gems you get for doing various activities. Pretty much the only thing you actually HAVE to spend money on (if you want) is character skins
Nikke's story and character writing is way better then it has any right to be.
I kinda doubt he'd even spare it a passing glance but Raincode did away with a lot of the Danganronpa-isms to tell a way more focused story that Pat probably wouldn't hate.
Shinigami would probably ruin the game for him though 😂
