I currently have 5 prs Red Cheek Cordon Bleu set up. 2 pr have eggs. A third pr is currently mating. Have been working with them on and off all my life. The birds i am working with currently are third generation captive bred. They eat egg food very well. Still need to feed mini mealworms to “kickstart” the breeding season. I have learned (the hard way) that the cordon blues do best when they are 3 to 4 yrs old. Thats when i get checks. The first two years they hatch out but they toss their chicks. Also have had some good luck with red billed Firefinch but have none set up this year. These Africans are difficult to breed. Not for the faint of heart! But this year i, too, am raising some cansries. They are so special! I have 2 hens sitting. I sure hope the eggs are fertile! I can never know for sure. Its a crap shoot for me 😎 I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!
Its confusing to me because my canarys do not have seasons to breed they breed in summer spring and November? She only lays 2 eggs each time. The male normally pokes holes in the eggs. I had 1 baby in spring he grew aprind up to a week and was loud lil baby then dead in morning do males kill them? now shes had more... Ive decided to only let them out the cage to greet each other but not to live together now. Should i help feed the babies...?
Try to get a cage which can be divided into 2...once the male mate with the female ..isolate him in the next side..let her free to lay eggs and feed the babies... the male does that coz he don't want the female to sit on eggs coz he wanna mate again..the babies need temperature from thier mom at least 5 or 6 days and then you may take them out to feed them by ur self
They absolutely need to be divided, you did it right. There are males that help with the hatching of eggs, such as feeding the female while she stays in the nest, or sit himself in the nest while she eats. But many are simply not made for that and need to be divided. The males often do that because they always want to breed over and over again. I had a male canary like that too. The mother should be fine with feeding them for the first week before you can do it yourself, just make sure that she eats enough before the hatchlings come. I would recommend to divide them during the year aswell, birds should not be laying eggs so often. They are fine alone in the cage if its not mating season, you can put their cages next to each other so they can still see each other.
@@Asia-wi8hewow this info is such an eye opener, I have a male canary and at some point consider to get him a friend just so he is not lonely, but looking at the canary behavior I'm not so sure anymore, he is broody for about a month now and a very feisty one.Do you have any advice how to calm a broody canary without mating?
Hi friend! Thank you so much for sharing your videos !! I have a question for you if you don’t mind to give me your advise !? I have a 2 pair of canaries . One pair is about to have babies . She has been in her nest for almost 2 weeks. What Would you you recommend to feed the adults with once the babies hutch besides they regular food (mixed of seed ?
Awesome thanks so much this is my first pair and season... Nothing yet but all signs there. My trouble is the nesting material... Don't know what to use
@@MFFK_AEK tried. Plastic nest is felt lined maybe that's why ? I noticed this morning she slept in the nest over night. I have both canary in same cage and they have been since I bought. I separated male a few times and he sings like crazy so I know hes very close. They have high protein and 12-13 hrs sunlight and some supplement light at night
Absolutely beautiful set-up and perfect video. I am getting back to canaries after many years. Lovely birds. I've got two questions. 1. Where can the drinking system you have be purchased? 2. Do you breed Cutthroat finches and if yes do you sell some? I can't find two males I need anywhere 😔
Haha. The 1st bird I ever had as a child was canary, had a few over the years till I was 20. Years later I started with zebra finches and they are funny little breeders, had Java sparrows, amazing smart birds. I now have a pair of budgies but also went back to my 1st love and got a pair of canaries who just gave me my 1st ever canary chick. I got the dad when he was 4 months old and was not singing. After 1 year he started singing like a canary but also imitated the song and alert calls of zebra finches lol. So sometimes I don't know if it is a zebra screeching or my canary:))). I did not know they can do that.
@@lilsangarden Friends? I don't know. You need to be careful because the Java can kill the canary. My Java was male and the zebra he loved was female. However my other Java was trying to stomp on zebras so... depends.
Hi, I have a question I live in California and it’s freezing point outside so I put my birds inside. Will they my canaries breed inside the home thank you.
Hi I have 3 canary for 3 days i saw 1 egg but today i saw that is broken and there is only one egg, should i trow it or keep it until she give up laying on it ? Ty
Great video, one question , can few jumpes few days after laying eggs be enough to fertile all eggy becouse i havd 3 males and 7 females and i must change them from one to another ? Thanks..
I see you have several canaries together I have one canary and want to get another but don't want to breed I leave my cage open, and he flies in and out on his own can I get another male canary?
It is said that 2 male canaries will fight as they are quite territorial bird, even they just get close with the female just on breeding season, not like other pair of bird which is more affectionate once bonded.
Your better to get a female as two males will probably fight or at elast be stressed together. If you dont provide a nest they might not lay eggs. You can also just remove any eggs if need be.
My canary hen lays eggs, incubates them for six days then loses interest and starts rebuilding her nes, when candling the eggs i could see that there was development...why does she stop incubating her eggs?

This is so horrible, your birds have a totally sterile and unnatural environment, where is the fresh green produce or any kind of organic ambience or space to fly. In it for the money obv
You can't specify the month for breeding because the time in California is different than kentucky. Canaries should be bred when the length of the day light reaches 13.5 hours a day, the same thing with artificial light. You guys always blame the infertile eggs on either the male or the female not knowing that the size of the male is the key. there is no one knows about canaries than me but God. Dean... The canary man.
The canaries are special birds 🥰 Miss them...probably this year i will buy for myself another pair. Good luck with them! 👍
Thanks buddy 😁
