    Tech tip. Copper anti-seize can cause electrolysis/pitting on aluminum. Nickel is the go.

    Blessing in disguise breaking those glow plugs. You would of always been wondering how good the rest of the motor was, if it didn't perform to your standards. You know every inch of it now and it has a lot of new goodies. you won't have to throw a spanner at it for a couple of hundred ks either. great work. Iv got a 76 (300km) and 200 (160km) great engines.

      So true mate and I am glad I did. As you said, I don’t have to touch it again for a long while.

    Looking forward to seeing the end result. As an 80 series 1hdt owner I would like to see the comparison. Just a note on the use of copper based lubricants on aluminium, it's not the best thing to do, copper and aluminium is a recipe for electrolysis. You would be far better off using a nickle based lube

    Going to look good and plenty of power as I went from 1fz to LS 6 litre and love the power and towing upgrade

    • @skillosshed
      @skillosshed  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah that would have made a massive difference. I have a mate that went from a turbo’d 1FZ to LS3 and loves it

    @SS - As soon as u dropped that bolt I was yelling "butterfingers!!" But seriously, that's allot of stuff stuffed into that valley; and if any coolant lines get crossed - another nightmare going back in to retrace a mirade of intricate details. In any case, glad I subbed. Looking forward to the next vid.

    • @skillosshed
      @skillosshed  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don’t worry…I was yelling too 😂!
      Yeah it is quite intimidating that valley but putting it back together made logical sense actually so not as bad. But geez I relied on those photos I took. So glad I did 😮‍💨

      @skillosshed  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks mate. Yeah it was intimidating the entire way! The book was pretty good actually. A lot of little bits in there that I wouldn’t have been aware of without so definitely paid for itself

    Personally i prefer the look of my 74 series over a 80 and much prefer the 74 interior . But coils all round obviously superior in many ways . Looking forward to seeing your progress 👍

    I had similar issues with the torque wrench snapping bolts, i found going to a smaller torque wrench with a max of 25nm and 1/4inch shank meant it torqued correctly. i Think it haas something to do with how a spring works and how it isnt aas aaccurate in the low and high end of the range.
    Great Video!

      @skillosshed how will you mount the motor so it clears the hood. My original mounts sit high, and I have to figure something out.

    • @skillosshed
      @skillosshed  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @vincegiulitto you’ll see in the episode after next 😉. Luckily I have a guy that has figured it all out so mounts coming. Plus, I’m going to be doing the bonnet scoop mod anyway

    If the v8 common rail conversion would give a big jump in HP and economy to 1HDT-FE then I could understand it but with all the short comings of 1VD **** and poor fuel figures when towing, really would like to see someone do 1HDT*** build with say MAHLE custom steel pistons etc and even a common rail conversion

    • @skillosshed
      @skillosshed  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Horses for courses isn’t it. I did mull over an FTE swap, but knowing that I am unlikely to tow with this (given I have a 200 as well) I wanted something proven in the bush, with a bit of poke that also sounded the goods. Hence the 1VD got the nod 😂

    • @horseshoe182
      @horseshoe182 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      you get get some power from 1hd-ft, i think its yanmar, has made a marine version, with high hp.

      You do realise the main factor for the VDJ have poor milage is due to the gearing toyota uses yea...

      @1989cranston not too fussed with it all. Have a 200 that is pretty poor on the juice too. Part and parcel of driving around 3T of car I guess 😂
