Hey! My name is Arron Skillen (Skillo) and I have created this channel as a vlog to follow my journey of completing backyard restorations and 4WD adventures with the aim of providing edu-tainment to all aspiring backyard restorers & car enthusiasts. I would also like it to serve as a community to learn & share content about all stages of backyard car restoration; showing that anyone with the right attitude can give it a go.
It also follows me on regular trips into the bush as well, where my mates and I take custom built 4WD's to some spectacular locations. The current and past vehicles that are featured:
'Timmy' - 2018 Toyota Landcruiser 200 series
'Tammy' - 1993 Toyota Landcruiser 80 series
'Sandy' - 1982 Toyota Landcruiser 45 series
The current build projects are:
'Rosco' - 1964 Holden EH panel van (IFS and IRS swapped, V6 conversion)
'Jimmy' - 1998 Suzuki Jimny (Daddy-Daugther project - coming soon!)

7 weeks building the ULTIMATE 80 series in 7 Minutes!
I was faced with a tight deadline to do something that only a select few have accomplished before me...install a 1VD-FTV engine into my 80 Series Landcruiser!
This incredible engine conversion was all done in my home shed. From tearing it down, rebuilding the 1VD, welding new mounts, to wiring it up, and even integrating a 79 series bonnet scoop, every detail was meticulously executed in just 7 weeks! You get to see the journey in just 7 minutes. Enjoy the ride!

Should be an awsome engine without all the pollution gear restricting it
Legend. Nice work 👍
Better then the sema builds
🥲 thanks mate
wow man i literally cried for you watching this....
I know right…had a good ending though 😎
5:14 that engine of the 1VD-FTV is just something else isnt it ! what a bad ass build! 👌
Very nice. Only thing i can say to do. Is to throw oil catch can in the bin
why?
Its a diesel V8 that saves time from cleaning egr system intake manifold valves etc
Nice work mate. Lots of work gone into that one.
Thanks mate. Awesome to watch it all back
Can you build me one if I get a stat write off VDJ ute to supply? How much?
Possibly. I haven't considered doing customer builds, but am getting a few requests. Perhaps message me on Insta or email me...details on my bio. Happy to discuss. ;)
This is my dream build. I would have called it the V80, but since you got there first, feel free. Well done, very well done. Enjoy your monster.
Thank you! Yeah the whole build series was called the VDJ80 series but I’m no where near ear the first 😉
Awesome work mate
Thank you!
Lovely Ep and build in your 4wd, I just wonder why you put such a complicated donk in a uncomplicated 4wd.
Thanks mate. Yeah good question …just wanted something different. Love driving my 200 with the power so wanted something similar that was more bush proof than an LS or similar. I’ll miss the absolute simplicity of the 1 HZ but already driving it around, has completely changed the truck and it is a pleasure to drive so not displeased at all
@@skillosshed Ok lovely stuff , our old 80 still has the 1HZ in her with around 900, 000 ks on her hopefully she gets to the Mil, I love it for my solo fishing trips up north,
Awesome run! How good are these old rigs 🥲
Hope you’re well mate what do you think roughly it cost you for the conversion besides your labour
Stay tuned for next episode in a fortnight…all will be revealed 😉
1vd swap is tuff 🔥
How much to build me one ☝️ 😂

That’s sick
Why not 1hdft
Something different and have a 200 so love the V8 and share parts etc
congratulations, its a lot of hard work, stress, money ect. great job.
Thanks mate. Appreciate the message
To the average guy. That just looks like a truck with an extra radiator on top of the intake. Huh?
Fair enough comment 👍🏼. To a car guy, they get that this 2009 engine combo in this 1993 car has only been done a handful of times and the work involved is huge. Hope that helps 😎
Master tech now
Good series Do you end up doing a steering box conversion as well?
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed! Nah just stuck with the 80 series box for that. Just put a brace kit in it though
@skillosshed nice. Im just about to finish the gu box conversion in my 105 coz i broke the 105 one in bug desert. The gu steering box is quick a bit bigger. Hopefully i wont break this one
Yeah it’s a good upgrade for sure. I don’t reckon I’d fit it in with the alternator
@skillosshed ah okay. Yea the vdj is definitely a tight fit in the chassis thats for sure
Nice job mate from UK
Thanks mate and thanks for tuning in!
Well done mate, I bet it's a blast to drive. 💯
It so is. Love it and even drives well in the bush too!
Great vid - you did an amazing job on the bonnet.
Thanks mate…just giving it a crack 💪🏼
Blessing in disguise breaking those glow plugs. You would of always been wondering how good the rest of the motor was, if it didn't perform to your standards. You know every inch of it now and it has a lot of new goodies. you won't have to throw a spanner at it for a couple of hundred ks either. great work. Iv got a 76 (300km) and 200 (160km) great engines.
So true mate and I am glad I did. As you said, I don’t have to touch it again for a long while.
Hey mate, doing a great job. But on the outer skin you need to weld the whole way around, so there is no lap showing. If you don’t it will eventually lift and let moisture under the bog and it will crack and rust. On the inside, try to weld the whole way around as well, on your over lapping panels try add plug welds it will give you more strength and less flexing on the inside structure. Just some advice from a 25 year experienced panel beater. 🥃
Thanks mate. Yeah with this one I’ve just done what I did and if I need to do it again later, I will, but with the EH, doing it the way you describe…like Dad would ☺️ cheers
Coach and body builder here, good job on the graft. I have seen some pretty nasty jobs with these bonet chops. A really good way is to de-skin both bonnets and acetylene weld (6tip) the scoop to the 80 shell. You can beat the weld as you go allowing a clean finish and helping to shrink. Then just refold the skin to the inner frame. Glad to see you did the epoxy sandwich system. I have seen so many Restos go to sh*t cause of just putting polyester filler on bare metal. Also rigs looking good.
Adam on STS Garage just finished an 80 build with bonnet graft. Can't remember what donk he put in. Worth a look I reckon, it came up shmick. Great work on yours, congrats mate
Got the still feelin it grin :) nice work.
Despite the backyard body work I reckon that’s one of the cleaner undersides of the 79 scoop I’ve seen done. Nice work mate.
Thanks mate. I’m pretty chuffed with it
Stripping the raptor is the best thing you could do
Great job mate 👌👌👌now it’s time to enjoy it
was hoping to see what it looked like with the hood down other than cracking series making me jealous !
Thanks mate! Check out my Instagram…there is a photo on there with more to come 😉
@@skillosshed just had a look and farrk does it look good, well done mate!
Best model matched with the best engine congratulations great job really enjoyed the process Cheers
My thoughts exactly mate!
So so kool.
Got a G320 turbo on my 79. OEM intake pipe and airbox are fine. OEM Snorkel is restrictive though
Tech tip. Copper anti-seize can cause electrolysis/pitting on aluminum. Nickel is the go.
If you want the factroy steel heater hose line, i have one sitting on the shelf at work, I’m coming up to see Hagen on Friday…… it’s just gathering dust ….. ps please dont fit a catch can… 100% not necessary
We still get 200kw and 800 nm on factory stuff with a G350, the gsl pipe is not great, to much weight on compressor housing and only flows a bit more than factory
Good to know mate! Thank you
Was it an negative trigger for the start
Nah there was a black/red and a black/white. The black/red was the one that went to the starter on the 1HZ so assumed it would be it. But it must have been the output from the old start relay I removed. So the black/white was correct as that came from the key. 🤦♂️. Got there in the end 😎
@@skillosshedeither way you have done an awesome job
Thanks mate. Appreciate that
Another solid video, Arron. We released a portable air pump for off-road use. Can we invite you to do a review? We have emailed for an inquiry.
Why didn't you put a front mount intercooler on it? Apologise in advance if its been mentioned somewhere already.
All good…don’t really have the room at the front without cutting up the grill but more, it is a hell of a lot more piping for a single turbo that feeds to two throttle bodies. Unlike a HDT that feeds one side and turbo in the other, there would be pipes going everywhere to make a front mount work. I’m sure it’s been done, but it wasn’t for me especially considering the timeframe. Plus, the bonnet scoop looks better anyway 😂😂
Mate, one of your vids popped up on my feed this arvo and I have now watched the whole build series. I also own a 200 but am an 80 fan at heart. What an achievement mate, hearing the big 1vd fire up was bloody awesome and got me excited.
Thanks mate and welcome to the channel! Great to have you on the journey.
Great effort and for muffler wait till it’s under load to see how loud it is
Need it for engineering anyway but sounds good
Congratulations you have completed a massive task full credit great achievement I have a smile as big as yours at the moment enjoy
Thanks mate. Still bouncing 😂
Love the work, keen to see it driving!
Thanks mate 😎
that’s bloody sick mate!
Loving the progress Skillo. It's a shame the ecu tune can't delete the actuation of the egr valve
Thanks mate. Well it can, and I mulled over doing the delete, but decided to do the right thing for engineering 😂
I'm guessing they will turn it off when they do a remap like every one does
So awesome buddy.❤
Well done, mate. I also got super excited watching it fire up, and you're your reaction. Great effort well deserved
Thanks mate. Yeah I was pretty excited 😂😂
Very nice mate congratulations well done 👌👌👌I found with my 200 series I put 2 x themo fans on the cooler and it worked great something to think about
Yeah Hagen has been on me about it too 😉😂
