    Dear Santa...
    I think I would take this over the Multistrada, as much as I like Ducatis.

      aboodz I sold my multi and have the first version of the 1290 SA (white version), and it's great...this version is even better, although I'd prefer spoked wheels to these cast wheels

    A comparison with the Multistrada 1200S will be apt considering this has all the features that the Multistrada 1200S has (TFT screen, cornering ABS, cornering headlights etc. etc.) and is meant to do the same thing i.e. munch immense amount of miles.

      Agreed and should include some off-road on the "road" models and some fast road/track on the more off-road models so folks can work out which is best for their typical use.

    The cast wheels have spokes, othherwise they wouldn't work very well! ;)
    "wire spoked" is the other type.
    I think it's 160 DIN HP too, not BHP - not that there is a huge amount between the two.
    Other than those and talking about iPad instead of tablet, great review, thanks!

    Great review!
    I've been riding off and on for a long time. I've owned, or road, almost everything over the years. My question is, 1300 CC's, I thought everyone was going to stop at 1000, then 1100, then 1200!? How much displacement do we need on motorcycles? The vast majority of us will NEVER use all the power these bikes have on tap, so how much is enough?

    I was under the impression that LED lights don't generate any heat, that's why household LED lights are cheaper to run, less wasted energy in the form of heat.
    Or am I being too picky and there's a transformer in the lighting circuit generating the heat?

    • @kmanmx
      @kmanmx 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're more efficient than traditional tungsten/halogen bulbs, but they're not 100% efficient. I.e. some of the energy is still heat. A powerful LED bulb still gives out a fair amount of heat energy.

    • @moody9931
      @moody9931 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** just looked it up you're quite right. Apparently LED's don't produce IR energy like regular bulbs but amazingly around 85% is still lost as heat.
      Only just finished breakfast and I've learned something new!

    Nice review. Does KTM have any plans to offer this bike in the USA?

    • @12masterr
      @12masterr 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brad Bilski look like it will not come to the states, I always wonder who is the idiot that decided not to bring it here,since is basically the bike i was looking for.and everyone I talk is saying the same,the r model is a bit too off road, and the regular sa is a bit too much,this is probably the best compromise.

    • @Brad-RB
      @Brad-RB 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I agree. I almost bought a 1290 SA last month but went for the R1200GS instead because it's a better all around bike. KTM needs to step up with a better warranty too. If you read their US warranty it basically covers the frame, swing arm casting and the engine block. No moving parts and no electronics are technically covered. A little risky for a bike with 8 computers. I do like the brand though. They'll get things sorted out soon. When they do I'll give them a try.

  • @LambChopRides
    @LambChopRides 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    cast wheels lighter than spokes?? would be suprised..

    • @eubikedude
      @eubikedude 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, cast are usually lighter than wire spoked as the wire ones are usually made from steel and the cast from aluminium, magnesium or some light-weight alloy of those kinds of material.

    • @100mostlyauthentic
      @100mostlyauthentic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      spoked wheels have an aluminium rim and hub, only the spokes are stainless steel.

    • @eubikedude
      @eubikedude 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, but the weight of all those steel spokes adds up. The cast ones have spokes too ...

    • @100mostlyauthentic
      @100mostlyauthentic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes as a generalisation, cast wheels are lighter than spoked wheels, and would no doubt be the case in this example.

      Correct! Thanks for replying! Can't wait to see the upcoming comparison video!

    • @eubikedude
      @eubikedude 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The MSE also weighs more and is slower turning and much, much weedier at low RPM.

    • @seanonearth
      @seanonearth 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      EU Bike Dude MSE owner here and I would kinda have to agree a bit. I myself have solved this problem by adding a full system along with a Rapid Bike ECU. Major difference! Once the cat is removed and the engine retuned it's absolutely amazing now. Fueling is perfect and everything is buttery smooth all the way down low. I love the sound of the engine and the character of the bike. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming comparison video! Thanks for replying!

    • @eubikedude
      @eubikedude 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I currently have an MS ST and did the same with a TuneBoy system inc quickshift.
      Mine pulls off the line better than a brand new one. I still think the 1290 is nicer overall and have one "coming soon".

      yea clogged carbs are a real pain, so are getting them to run at altitude and they are far less powerful
      BUT

      but hey, go spend that money and when you actually do go off road instead of sitting at Starbucks and break that fancy display. let me know how much it costs cause you could probably by 2 of my bikes for it and they'll last just as long ;)

    Keyless ignition in bikes is just stupid. And the front light is hideous.

    • @eubikedude
      @eubikedude 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      KI is actually great, especially coupled with the keyless fuel cap, especially when filling up in the rain. :)
      (I've had it on my current bike for the last 4 years, have you used it?).
      I think the light looks fine but more importantly is the performance which appears to be on a new level versus anything else out there currenttly.

    • @softairsan
      @softairsan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are a strange person ^^
      keyless ignition is bullshit.....it sure is not worse than normal but costs money and you do not need it so it just isnt worth it....
      also performance is probably the least important thing on travel/offroad bikes, things like weight, price, handling, reliabilty etc are what counts for normal ppl.

    • @eubikedude
      @eubikedude 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Why strange? It's a convenience feature. We probably don't need 160hop enduros either but they are fun.
      The competitors in this (expensive) market segment all have KI too and given a lot of new cars have it standard too it's not expensive to implement these days.
      All of the other things you talk about are the same for any bike, so I'm not sure what your point is and weight/handling are part of the performance equation.

    • @softairsan
      @softairsan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      performence is important for supersport or sportbikes, others need for example good sound / suspension / light weigt etc.
      ofc it is always good if the bike is good at everything but iw never will and all the different models have special key features and things they are good at and travel/offroad bikes do not need the best performence/power.
      also in cars its the same with wireless keys, total bullshit.......
      It is simple, it has a negative point: it costs money
      and then there may be some positive points like you can keep the key in your pocket (which i dont think is usefull or positive ( at least for me))
      but for most (not as strange as you ppl) the negative point overwhelmes the basically nonexisting positive points.
      These are the reasons why i said you are strange ^^

    • @eubikedude
      @eubikedude 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry but I NEED the comfort of an upright bike (health issues) but still WANT the performance of a sportsbike (for the fun of riding) and the "creature comforts/convenience features" are a bonus.
      Yes the buy in price is high but it also means I can have one bike with all of this instead of having to have space/funds for several and in the case of sports bikes not be able to ride them any more.
      Please explain how exactly the KI is total bullshit?
      It allows you to leave the key in your jacket pocket (I never take mine out, I have a separate one for luggae that will not start the bike). It means you never leave it in the bike (less likely to forget your jacket than the key) and you just get on and ride. It's tricial for them to add and they save the cost/weight/cabling of a switch - bonus. :) Tied to the fuel cap you can fill up without reong gloves, opening zips etc. which is very handy when it's raining (as I mentioned), you only need to take your glove off when you get inside the warm/dry shop or your home.
