One neat thing I think is worth mentioning is that the cable they include has a shorter connector, so when you plug it in it sits flush with the back of the case instead having a few millimeters of metal showing. Small detail, but it's really nice, and sits flush with my other boards as well.
I recently picked up the GMMK compact barebones. Got some Halo Clear switches and I am in love with it. I am pleased with all the updates to the GMMK that finally make it a solid contender in todays market.

Me, on my GMMK, with 2 new keyboards on the way: "Hmm..."
This is the best entry level hot swap board in the market period (I have this and the NovelKeys NK65 entry edition, so I have compared them both myself as well). If you can live without the USB-C port, you can save even more money going with the older model's barebone option and then use the difference for switches and keycaps (I even did a video on how to build one of these as a whisper quiet office board, using the same Zeal Zilents Brian used here, and I'm very happy with the results).

Just received mine in the mail today and I'm typing on it right now. Can confirm it sounds, looks, and feels exactly as is shown/explained in the video. Really nice overall. However, mine does not have a detachable usb cable, it is permanently wired in, though I got the full size layout, so maybe the smaller versions do have the detachable cable. I got the Model D mouse as well and it is also exactly as shown in his review.
Yeah, the full size is not detachable, the other sizes are.
Not having a detachable cable sucks a little bit, but at the same time, I can see the logic. People probably don't travel as much with full size as they would with, say, TKL. Not only that, but as this is such a thin keyboard, it's probably easy enough to just wrap the cable around the board, or to use the velcro loop to wrap the cable in a tight coil. Honestly, I wish I'd known about the foam before swapping switches - I'd have taken it out and really let my clicky flag fly.

good video, i bought a gmmk 2 or 3 weeks ago and I wanted to hear some other opinions because I am very happy with this keyboard.
Just bought this on a whim as my first mechanical keyboard, and I'm glad to hear such a great review! I definitely picked up some lube so I'm excited to spend a few hours bonding with them. I'm afraid I'm already going to be diving off the deep end with all of this, but that's just fine! I love a good hobby.

I got this board when it first launched. Been using it ever since. I'm pretty happy with it. Although I'm getting more into keyboard and upgrading, I'll still be using this for my work keyboard.
The keycaps update is incredible. Back when the white ice was OOS, I picked up a black barebones and white caps. Based on his earlier review, I was super surprised at the quality of their caps. 6 months later and still very happy with them. They sound great with Tealios.
This is actually a pleasant surprise, hotswap mechs continue to become more efficient and better. Not that I don't enjoy my GK61 and it's basic feature set, but the future may have better mainstream options for all of us. Also - the fact that the MM720 has sat in a couple of your demonstrations makes me think that you're going to have some praise for it, and that's exciting. If only such things came in a left-handed version.

The black TKL version is my entry into custom keyboards and I'm loving it. Gat reds and Matrix Keyboards Joker keycaps. Really love the RGB, the minimal look, and the sound. Will be putting some Tangerines in soon (and doing my first lube job with those as well). Great video production, keep up the good work!
You should try the v2 Tangies without lube first. I run mine just filmed, and the stock spring lube makes both the Tangies and Kiwis pretty smooth. But of course lube doesn't hurt it either. I was just surprised when I got mine a few months ago how smooth they were out of the box
I got a black full size and it's absolutely beautiful. Swapped out the browns for blues and put in some Aura caps, it's absolutely gorgeous. I'm probably gonna try to get a bare-bones 1800 GMMK2 to put some Box Navies in. Honestly, I love how understated the keyboard is. You could turn off the RGB and it looks like a classy bit of office kit, unlike so many of the more ostentatious gamer shit you find on the market.
I ordered one when I preordered my wireless model O. Can't wait!!
Just got mine as a Christmas gift yesterday (thanks mom). It's a huge step up from what I was using before ($30 Velocifire TKL from amazon). Gat browns feel nicer than I expected, and I'm getting some lube in today to make them feel even nicer. Keycaps look super clean, especially with the RGB. They feel great and sound great too. I've just been doing typing tests since I got it lol.
As a manufacturer I'm glad you explained the price difference, or lack of. Most manufacturers have to amortize or subsidize the costs across "size" models. Because they usually cost the same to produce. I worked at a company where we had a lower margin on smaller items because of the perceived value being less than the bigger option.
I like the keyboard reviews especially from you. You really seem to konw what you talk about and have nice comparisons etc!
Only thing I would recommend for you as you do this for a living. Search for a few websites where you can learn to type with all your fingers! Makes writing your own content and doing these videos much easier. It takes a while but it is totally worth it. Keep on the great work!
i just got into the hobby and picked up a new one of these for a major discount. switched in xda keycaps, did an extremely bs tape mod to the spacebar, bought someone's lubed ktt strawberries, and i cannot believe how "finished" the board feels upon use. might clip the stabilizers for the sake of practice, but i couldn't be more pleased for how little the build has cost me. gathering pieces secondhand is fun!
Please use your influence to make TKL more common. I cannot get work done without at least a TKL. Less than TKL is a novelty gaming controller IMO, but it looks like a lot of companies are skipping the TKL step.

Good review. I lubed the stock Browns and they sould a lot like the Zilent's in the video. Before, my board sounded exactly like yours stock. I'm going to put my Glorious Holy Pandas in my White Ice when I get my Tangies in next week. I put the GHPs in my NK65.

I have the GMMK White Ice TKL and WOW it is a gateway drug! I have the glorious pandas and after trying lubing switches for the first time, I'm all in! They're so smooth and now I'm planning on clipping and bandaid modding the stabs. I bought some alpaca switches I plan to lube and some NK Blueberries. Lastly, I ordered a set of GMK Samurai keys.
Honestly, I bought a new NK65 frost from someone because I want to use any switch without clipping legs and I likely will sell the GMMK.
It's a phenomenal board, but absolutely the gateway drug to all the other mechanical keyboards.
Now they just need to change their PCBs from 3-hole to 5-hole and have them add a 65% form factor! 5-hole PCBs would be the most welcome change, as I hate having to clip switches lol
Also really loving the Miami-night Vice intro, at least that's what the music makes me think of.
I hope this come in barebone! Who would buy a GMMK with stock brown switches? I replaced them all with Glorious Panda, lubed with 205g0, definitely love it. The ABS double shot stock keycaps are not bad actually, it is at least thicker than their Aura White PBT pudding keycaps. The Aura White PBT pudding are horrible!
Ive been debating between this and a Ducky as my Christmas gift. A ducky is tempting bc 2022 is year of the tiger and I want that tiger space bar but ultimately I think this one will be the winner

I def need that discord back man. If it wasn't for the discord I probably wouldn't be typing on my first custom keyboard. Whenever I had any questions about anything computers that community was there to help and give me solid answers. I hope it gets back up and running soon.

Got one of these for my girlfriend, no switches. Put my old mx browns from my Drop Alt, couple layers of shelf liner in the gaps of the chassis and lubed the switches + bandaid mod and it sounds really solid.

Hey man love your channel a lot. I’m thinking of getting a GMMK full size or TKL, the customization on the GMMK boards are great and I was thinking if that’s me best bet for a white TKL or full size that looks clean for someone who wants to have a clean white keyboard with RGB. And I was also thinking of throwing in a model d with it too because from what I heard, it’s ergo and seems well for palm grip and would it be a good pick for an 18cm size hand? I was just looking to see if my best bets for a keyboard and mouse were these. Thanks a lot man great job!
Leaving another comment. I just got this like week a ago love this board. Lubes stabs and put milky gateron switches liners> sounds much better. Glad its C port got tired of stitching my customs cables to micro and C lol
I really wish the Esc key was blue to fit more with the Ice theme. I know Glorious likes orange, but it would of looked and fit the board better imo

I personally bought a GMMK Compact and 'building' it myself was a really nice experience, putting all of the switches in, and then putting in all of the keycaps made me feel more attached to the keyboard.

I own this keyboard and its actually really nice. Its easy to mod, and when you do mod it, it can sound sooo good! I have gat black inks lubed and it honestly sounds like a 300 dollar keyboard and I modded it out at just over half that price!
this is the best budget tkl i ever used ! hotswapable and dont have any hollowness even 0 mod , just need to lube well the switch
Been running the white ice for about a month now with some Lubed and filmed gat clears and it is solid and sounds fucking amazing

Can confirm my GMMK-TKL has those exact same weights inside in the exact same spot. Also glad to hear in the typing test that these stock stabs sound worlds better than the stock stabs that came with my O.G. TKL. just swapped them out for some white pre-lubed Gateron units from KBDfans and I couldn't be happier with the results.

This helps a lot. Was considering the entr but this seems like a much better value other than the switches. Is this better than other starter hot swap boards? Sry just getting in to this.
I purchased the full-size and love it. The only thing is that I wish it had the USB C connector since mine is a hardwired model.
Recently saw the prices for the black board barebones on Amazon, damn it's at a steal considering. Think I might have to snag one just so I can add one to my lineup (was thinking of going with a full-size so I can properly test at my desk at work - use the numpad alot with excel and other things I do w/in clients requesting linux or modding an image).
Glorious' wood rests are some of the best in the market - I have the stained and a black, alot better than the Ducky one I have as well.

Oh and I’d be interested to see what you think of MX Zilents. I recently switched from Zeal Zilents v2 to MX Zilents and although I miss the tactility of the Zeal Zilents, it’s unreal how quiet and smooth the MX Zilents are.

the difference between the prebuilt is it has switches and key caps. The barebones is going to be the same thing without those. It should be the updated version
