You can still use the same pan even if it's got a crack in it all you have to do is silicone caulking on the inside and the back of it and I don't think it'll affect your chickens because they use that kind of silicone for fish tanks
I am so glad to see we're not the only ones using a toilet brush to clean out water and feeders.😅 We also have a water hydrant, that works great so we're planning on trying to invest in another one and on another one in a different spot on our property. They are frost-free and so long as you do not leave a hose attached to it it will not freeze up in this cold weather.
We still have 3-4" of snow on the ground here in the mtns of Virginia. It's been brutally cold here, we have our well pump room setup similar to y'all's, but we have a small heater in it instead of a heat lamp. Even with having it insulated like that and the heater inside, our pump still managed to freeze up twice on us until the Mr realized that he had the heater set on low and hadn't increased the heat but since he figured out his mistake, our water has been running smoothly. Oh my goodness, we fell like dominoes one day after Christmas and each day after that till all six of us had it 5+ days each. Crazy bad flu bug. Sending prayers!

Have you ever thought of taking 5 gallon buckets with lids, drilling multiple holes around the bottom, and putting chicken nipples in them to make a covered waterer. It works great and keeps the water sanitary
Hello from Denver Colorado. Just this past weekend we got over 6 in of snow and it was -4 degrees because the wind chill was out of control and I agree with you it's quite beautiful when it's happening but driving in it is not my favorite thing

Add sliced fresh cranberries to that. It ll sweeten it up a little plus Vit C. Blueberries too. I make homemade fire cider and always add a lot of cranberries. I drink 2 tbsps of the liquid from that each day plus use all the ingredients to make a hot tea.
