      When reading “Uncommon Carriers” by John McPhee, you can read about a tank trucker who always looks for newspaper sellers who sell his favorite papers- I think The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

    I am not so cynical as to say that watching comedy TV or Film with an imbecile or lovable fool lead character means society is on a downward spiral.
    Many people can study a science and watch a stupid show all in the same day. They are not ignorant for being entertained by fools. That is a false dichotomy.
    I love the book thus far, but one’s fear that the masses like to laugh at crude idiots will never go away because laughing at crude idiots is an ancient trope.

  • @Ramkumar-uj9fo

    Some critics argue that Sagan's demon metaphor risks perpetuating a binary, "us vs. them" mentality between science and non-scientific ways of thinking. They advocate for a more inclusive approach that acknowledges the value of diverse perspectives and seeks bridges between them.
    Others suggest that alternative metaphors, like "shadows" or "untamed wilderness," might be more helpful in fostering understanding and dialogue without the negative connotations associated with "demons

    • @FinepixF30
      @FinepixF30 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think Sagan's aproach is to treat ignorance and deception as a demon, the lack of understanding things is like darkness and science is the light to help us see better. The metaphor is acceptable for me in this case. If you searching for the true you can't go about it worriying about inclusivness.

    I was listening to the Pale blue dot that seems to of been removed just like this one was. I know copyright and pirating and all is a thing and that it takes someone to discover or make but knowledge really should be freely assessable. I think putting a price on information or making it hard to access is one the biggest and longest lasting "shoot oneself in the foot" thing we as a species have done. I mean people already have a hard time educating themselves on stuff with all the misinformation out there along with just not having a lot of time to do so. So for something like this to be removed just because it's not making someone money puts a sour taste in the air for me. Unless the family or something along those line specifically says something then maybe
    However something as well know and impactful as Carl Sagan is and his works especially regarding the digital versions I feel it's behind wrong to remove them from any platform for any reason.
    I don't mean to be dramatic but I myself have been sad for a very long long time and have nearly gone through with pulling the trigger on several occasions. I could not find a point or reason to live, probably because of being robbed of a decent education and thus future by my parents. But once I stumbled across Carl Sagan and the beloved Cosmos series on TH-cam it eventually led me down a path of discovery through the beautiful lens of science. Now I'm capable of looking at the world and seeing through the fog of my human biases and appreciating it for what it actually is and not just how I feel it is. Everything isn't perfect of course but I have a new found spark of meaning that I've managed to scratch out that is helping lead me to a much brighter future. Although whenever something like this gets removed especially when I was listening to it every night as a lullaby feels like a cold hard slap to the face. I probably like most people don't have money to spare for all the things I need and want including renting a subscription service that I wouldn't be using most of the time.
    So I humbly think you for posting this, Fallout new vegas also so happens to be one of my favorites games (Fallout 3 being the number 1) but despite being a atheist myself Joshua Graham is definitely one of the coolest characters I've ever had the honor to experience in a game. On top of that just hearing this detail from a AI is amazing, I know it's not perfect but holy shit, this straight up feels like something from an old Si-fi flick where a few audio samples of a voice are taken and then made to sound like something incriminating. I hope more is to come

      It can be frustration at times with the removal of important works from public access. It is true that knowledge and information should be freely accessible for the public. It's also unfortunate when that access is restricted due to copyright and other issues.
      It's great to hear that Carl Sagan's work had a positive impact on your life.

      I'm excited you have equally found something to spark the compelling curiosity that is wanting to truly understand this universe for what is given through our dim comprehension. I absolutely agree that education and the fundamental building of its importance through literacy should be free for the people. I also favor the Fallout series so seeing this as a recommendation was a definite delightful surprise!
      Continue to see through the human condition and transcend through the barriers of our limitations, knowledge is everything in this transient consciousness. But remember to recognize this is a precious gift; whether it be through supernatural or natural means of origin explained by science. Try not to be down, even when life loves being so unforgiving cruel; stand in adversity and become stronger for it.
