I think the guards were supposed to be the card soldiers. Dee and Dum from the first episode I think were the tweedles and like you said the way they were moving felt like their bodies were one solid piece instead of a person's body like the card soldiers did.

I really like how they are setting up the protective theme of the silver-eyes. It's a shield, not a sword. Put that with Salem's immortality, and you can see they are building to an ending that isn't just firing the Macguffin of OP Criticality.
I think the Atleasian commanding officer is based on the Little Old Lady in the Shoe. Notice how Nora says "Well your base looks like a big dumb boot!"?
She's the Little old Lady, but those guards are Playing Card soldiers from Alice in Wonderland. Even their uniforms are rectangular.

Up until this volume, Ruby's has been stuck thinking like a Kid, showing deference to Authority figures and waiting for the Adults to tell her What to do. This Volume it seems CRWBY is slowly are taking away and deconstructing those Authority figures (Ozpin/Qrow) forcing her to really step up and take control of the situation.
To be fair, most episodes could be improved with a T-Rex Grimm.

What's with Ozpin / Oscar being antagonized by blondes and uncles?
I'm still waiting for the moment when these people realize that they did witness a very tragic tale that clearly haunts Ozpin. I mean, yes, the whole "You can't kill Salem" thing is a massive sticking point, but there was more to what they were shown than just that.

@@Anduril74871 The things is that Team RWBY, Oscar, Maria and Qrow were the ONES that were able to witness Ozpin's past. Team JNR heard this version of the story from their everyone's perspective through words, and well, they need to cool off. Their reactions were similar to CRWBY's as Chapter 4 and this scene is a parallel to that.

And I don't just mean blonde hair and blue eyes, but more the fact that neither can move on from loss - and have immense anger inside of them. I think you misunderstood what Maria said her semblance is. She said "prefelexes" aka spidey sense, meaning she reacts before the cause.
But one difference is that Spider-Man actually senses the danger coming. Maria doesn't-she just knows.

Not to say she would not understand WHY he is angry and heartbroken, but taking it out in the wrong person and another victim no less is going too far.

Jaune had a valid reason to question Oscar. Obviously he let his anger overcome him (which he visably regrets) but he didn't say anything about Ozpin. He questioned Oscar's loyality. You can talk about how you disagree with this mindset but asking if Oscar already knew, especially when he wasn't there to see that Oscar wanted to hear Ozpins explanations just as much, is valid. So no, he didn't direct his anger towards the wrong person. He is mabye quick to judge.
kibert135 Exactly. Jaune’s anger is valid and understandable, Oscar’s just in an unfortunate position being the vessel for Ozpin, who Jaune’s anger is really directed towards. I don’t like Jaune taking it out on Oscar either, but his POV is understandable and shouldn’t be dismissed as just angst or the like.

He didn't question Oscar's loyalty, he questioned whether Oscar was even there anymore. And considering that none of Team JNR was there to see Oscar's reaction to finding out Ozpin's secrets, that's very understandable.

Its funny how Marias comments to Ruby about her eyes have so much meaning to the whole Salem issues .... they are so focused on destroying evil that they lost sight about the more important thing, the nature of their job as Huntsmen ... to protect the people of Remnant and that is really what they are fighting for even if they can not destroy the evil threatening the humanity.
And i find it interesting that even through she never attended the academy system ... so she was not influenced directly by Ozpins designs directly her attitude and opinions are very much in line with his ... about fighting on and not retreating ...the scene here and her comments about what it means to be a huntress last episode.
I really want someone to bring this up to all the others as well soon ... as while I understand the reactions so far it is starting to get on my nerves a bit seeing that they are Huntsmen ... so I really want someone to bring this up in relation to their attitudes.
I agree the scene between Maria and Ruby was absolutely beautifully done. Also loved the use of Red like Roses and the piano version of This will be the Day.
I am currently of the opinion that the Semblances were much more passive in nature until the Huntsmen system was established after the Great War ... the more magical Semblances are a result of the Warrior King teaching the World to fight ... creating a Semblance of Magic

I can’t really fault JNR for being so angry. Everyone in the group lost something for Ozpin’s cause but they lost the most out of all of them. Pyrrha was family for them, especially Ren and Nora who had no family left besides Jaune and Pyrrha.
Ozpin Volume 4: They are our memories now
Jaune Volume 6, just got told Pyrrha died for nothing, there is no way to avenge her by stopping the perpetrator, or save humanity in the long run. Asks 2 legitimate questions:
1. If Oscar is really Oscar and not Ozpin fooling them (he could easily act like him by recalling his memories) and
2. if he knew about it (the memory thing should work the other way around too right?).

Bless your soul. That's exactly what I predicted. When I saw Jaune pinning him against the wall in the intro (post-chapter 3), I knew it would be because he found out the truth. I wouldn't call it a plot hole or anything, but Oscar SHOULD have had at least some memory of what was in the vision. My guess is that he never made an active attempt to go into Ozpin's past.
Seeing as how Ozpin can seal himself away and how hard it is for Oscar to keep control, I think Ozpin has more power in their relationship.
Well, if you think about it, Oscar's already done it before. That's how Jinn was discovered by the group, because Oscar knew Oz's past (or something involving it), and kept himself in place long enough for Ruby to do the thing.
Although maybe Oscar just knew Oz was hiding something. But I feel like if that was all it was, he wouldn't have been so active about stopping Oz.

The butterfly imagery in the episode seems to be connected with Maria's death symbolism which is Mesoamerican in nature. In Mexica lore, butterflies were the souls of the dead who returned once a year which helped explain the monarch butterfly's migration.

Well I see a lot of hate for Jaune because of his behavior...BUT he does have a point, How do they know that it isn't Ozpin pulling the strings behind Ozcar? It was shown that he can ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL over Ozcar and Jaune have the right to be suspicious.
Also in light of that Pyrrha risked her life for nothing. Ozpin fed her lies (I can understand why he did that) but in the end, he sacrificed her for nothing and her death was in vain.
So all in all JNR have all right to be pissed off as their teammate was treated like a pawn to only be discarded when no longer useful
Qrow punched Oscar for a legitimate reason and got off scot-free. Makes sense, right? Jaune pins Oscar against the wall, asks appropriate questions for an equally compelling or even greater reason and gets flamed. What the hell, fandom?
But Oz didn't sacrifice Pyrrha. Hell one of the reasons that they took so long to try to transfers Amber's Aura, they took longer because Ozpin wanted a verbal confirmation from her rather than shutting her up in it immediately for "The greater good". And when the fighting got too bad, he told her to get out and leave and find his inner circle, trained skilled huntsman. It was Pyrrha's choice to go after Cinder at the top of Beacon Tower
@@matthewcasey5421 He put her in a situation of no choice. Ozpin knew Pyrrha's personality and he knew that she would agree. Also what choice she would have after all this saving the world thing he put in her head? It was obvious that she would go after the threat because that's how she was.
He was an influence on her whenever he intended it or not. And even if he did not fail Pyrrha would have to live her life with a target painted on her back.
So back to my original point Jaune had the right to be pissed off.

I honestly don't understand the difference between agreeing to fight Salem and agreeing to become Huntsmen. The Grimm are immortal just like Salem, they've been here as long as humanity has. No matter how many Grimm they kill, they never go away. All of them already resigned themselves to protecting humanity from ONE immortal force, for the rest of their lives. Just what is the difference between the Grimm and Salem? Why is Ruby the only one who understands the importance of doing good for the sake of doing good? Why are Ruby and Ozpin the only ones who seem to think keeping humanity alive is a good thing? What is nobler than preventing the destruction of humanity? Ozpin didn't tell them about Salem's alleged invulnerability because he knew this would happen. He knew they would be discouraged. Nothing they did was for nothing. They kept Beacon's relic out of Salem's hands, thus preventing the destruction of humanity. This demonization of Ozpin is getting annoying. He isn't some evil, lying bastard. And he isn't an infallible being. He's a human being who's been alive much longer than anyone was meant to. He's a good person who screwed up, thats all.

You pointed out that the group didn't realize there might be alternatives to killing Salem. The thing that stood out to me during Jinn's scene was Ozpin asking how HE does the thing. I took it to mean that it has to be someone other than Oz.

i dont think its because of the bug . Salem said cause she have the maidens power that she received the damage and when i remember correkt the magic of the people of that time came also from the god of darkness. The maidens become their power from ozpin so it should be the same magic also the power of the god darkness.

Before rewatching this with you, I'm struggling to think of three major things that even happened in the episode.
Puns of Damage, Jaune is basically having a crash course on being in the crappy end of living in contrast with the rest of JNPR and RWBY which to various degrees have had that maturing experience way before season 3 did it's thing. Ruby and Yang with their mom's drama, Blake with all the White Fang Stuff, and Weiss with the destruction of her family as a working family(plus seeing what was happening with the SDC and what the SDC was doing). Then you have Jaune, who is basically a non-drama life person, which his biggest issue was being the average guy (or less) but having a bit of ambition of trying to do something right. Then he had Beacon fall, Pyrrha dusting and on top of that learns that it all was for nothing. In contrast, Nora and Ren had basically the worst background having lost way more than anyone on team RWBY. that it is why they are so close and also why they usually shrug shit off better. In this case I bet they are as angry as of the revelations themselves as angry of their teammate, Jaune taking it that bad, as in the end JNPR was working as their de facto family. As for Jaune let me add also that his hatred for Ozpin is more justified than it may seem, he was on the basement when cinder got the powers, he heard what Oz said to Pyrrha, and knows well what Pyrrha "that's too important to not try to do something" treshold was. Also, he is a bit of a scatterbrain but not stupid, he can tell, probably too well, that what he did catch about her behaviour in the Vytal Tournament (before a penny to quarters) being way off was related to the Maiden's thing and her decision. So, for Jaune, chances are that deep down, even if his mind denies it, he thinks Oz is the one responsible for Pyrrha's passing. Season 3, Cinder is revealed to have grim powers. And now she has a grim arm. People have theorized she is part grim, even from the beginning of this show. I really find her interesting.
It can't be a coincidence that we're getting explanation of silver eyes in Argus, Argos was the home town of Perseus son of Zeus and killer of the Medusa. I think the silver eyes only appears in the bloodlines of those touched by the god of light which would only be Salem and Ozma's offspring through the years

On the thought of the season and the fact that Salem can’t be killed as far as we know
There are other way of taking down the immortal
Use their undying ability against them by trapping them in areas that make their immortality work against them
And Jen only said to ozpin that HE can’t kill her which means what if Atlas can repair the Grimm reapers eyes to the point of being able to use her silver eyes and they can freeze Salem in stone then burying her so if she even breaks out of the stone she would still be trapped in motion like trapping her in stone and then melting down strong materials around the stone frozen Salem and then letting the strong material harden and then burying her deep deep underground and away from humanity
I’m not even going to try to pronounce the Grimm reapers name so I’ll just use her legendary name

So not only is Ruby silver-eyed, it seems her mother was as well. and silver eyes may be maternally-passed (so far as we can tell at this point.)
As for Maria's father, I think he just researched silver eyes as best he could, but could not find much. He himself (probably) is not silver-eyed.
Maria got her eyes frol her father, so it's not strictically transmitted through the mother.
@@MrRemicas no proof despite what Maria said. If her mother had silver eyes, the "our powers" could have meant her and her mother; not necessarily her and her father. We just do not know for sure.

Thank you for acknowledging Christmas isn't "the most wonderful time of the year". A lot of my family members are like Weiss's dad, family members are just tools and love isn't an emotion it's a commodity. I've seen other youtubers say you should enjoy the holidays because even dysfunctional families get along during the holidays, and it's so nice to have someone say I'm not a freak for wanting to avoid them.
Cinder also has the whole Grimm arm now, so that's probably the reason Ruby's silver eyes were triggered at Haven.
She also had a bit of Grimm inside her since before she took part of Amber's maiden powers in that volume 3 flashback

One thing I find interesting to note is this is one of the few times somone's semblance is directly asked of them. Personally I suspect it is considered rude in the culture of remnant to ask unless an opening like this is made, then it is considered a fair topic.

Pet theory; Qrows drinking interacts with his semblance and helps either suppress it or somehow 'draws good luck to him at others expense'. Because it seems to me that he drinks every time he needs some luck himself.
After their first meeting with Lionheart, he goes drinking and 'just happens' to run into Oz. And what does he say when they get back? "I found him!" "I did it!".
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the only time we saw him put a drink away was after meeting Heather Shields' family, and well, they were pretty down on their luck already.
