It is not necessarily amongst the left voters (as at the very least I personally can attest to), but sadly seems to be so amongst the parties. I've talked to many people on this issue and it really a big one. It splits the mind. You wish to be kind, and welcoming to anyone wishing to be and do well. Yet you will also accept wrongdoers through that same process, nigh unavoidable. Is that a necessary evil or is there a mitigation without being a police state? (or some other iron fisted system)
I personally don't think it's a merit/need issue. It's an issue of practicality. If young people with degrees and the support of their families are struggling to house themselves, an illegal migrant from a third world country with no education/skills suitable for an advanced economy is doomed to fail to secure independence.

On the positive side, a gender imbalance basically forces them to date with the local population if they are to find a relationship reliably. At least by legal migration they can check who they let in the country but by illegal migration they just show up, it's very difficult to close the borders, certainly for Spain, Greece and Italy. How can they close borders at sea?

Our ancestors invaded the world over. Looted lands like Australia, North America and even named territories after themselves like Rhodesia. I live in London and I am one of the 36% of Londoners who are ethnically English (according to the 2021 census, although this does not count illegal migration so I suspect the figure is closer to 25%). I feel like a foreigner. I am also gay, and without exception the homophobia I have experienced has been imported with arrivals from Africa and Asia, but that is another story. My neighbours do not speak English, my work colleagues clique into small ethnic groups speaking their own languages. I now barely see anyone else English. No one seems to care. This is rarely analyzed by the media and politicians seem scared to speak out. The left see this as a wonderful thing, but here am I stuck in the middle of this, keeping my head down and my moth shut while I watch my culture rapidly fade away into irrelevance. This is not a right wing attitude, it is cultural survival.
I'm also in London, so I can only sympathise with you. I became homeless in Tower Hamlets and was told by my support worker (mixed race) that I was the wrong sex and colour to get any sort of help. I've worked since I was 16, paid hundreds of thousands of £ in tax and I would only be housed and cared for once all the migrant families had been sorted. I’m pro _legal_ immigration strictly controlled by the host country and obviously pro accepting *genuine* asylum seekers/refugees. However, the chaos we have seen these past 5 years (at least) whereby millions of (mainly economic) migrants try to essentially ‘break into’ Europe is unacceptable to the *vast* majority of Europeans. Migration will increase year by year. The problem won't solve itself. Europe is relatively small compared to Africa or Asia. It cannot accommodate billions of people. The truth is, if Europe does not adopt a sensible migration policy, it will soon turn into a place from which people will flee, not come. The fault of the first world is that it exploited the third world, instead of helping them develop. Mass migration is the consequence of unwise policies and the greed of large corporations.

When no one on the bus speaks the host nations language you know there is an immigration problem. I’m 73 years old my parents and grandparents rebuilt Britain and the British economy after the war (as all people in this country contributed too - of all colours and creeds). This current influx of illegal migrants is draining the economy and preventing government spending more on the needs of our own poorer citizens, while housing illegal migrants and paying them pocket money. Is it not up to these young people to stay in their own countries and make it a better place for their own families and citizens? I have always been proud of the British will, to provide shelter to genuine asylum seekers.
Even genuine asylumseekers will be waaaaaaay to many in the future, Africas population is growing at a alarming rate.. we need to just say no, they are not our responsibilty. They travel trough 30 countries to come to Europe.. we only have a responsibilty for helping other Europeans, not people from totally different cultures on the other side of the planet.

There is a illusion among European policy makers, that creating legislation or sending money to African countries to hold back the waves of people landing on the shores of Europe. I personally don't think it's a merit/need issue. It's an issue of practicality. If young people with degrees and the support of their families are struggling to house themselves, an illegal migrant from a third world country with no education/skills suitable for an advanced economy is doomed to fail to secure independence.

I’m 73 years old my parents and grandparents rebuilt Britain and the British economy after the war (as all people in this country contributed too - of all colours and creeds). This current influx of illegal migrants is draining the economy and preventing government spending more on the needs of our own poorer citizens, while housing illegal migrants and paying them pocket money. Is it not up to these young people to stay in their own countries and make it a better place for their own families and citizens? I have always been proud of the British will, to provide shelter to genuine asylum seekers.

There is a illusion among European policy makers, that creating legislation or sending money to African countries to hold back the waves of people landing on the shores of Europe. There has to be physical force to stop and redirect the migration. Period. Everything else is supplemental like, quicker legal immigration processes or point system of skilled workforce migration.
Side Note: This is an economic issue. There will always be migration if Europe is better economically than its neighboring countries. When Africa and other regions are thriving economically and there’s peace, that is when the intense pressure of migration will subside for Europe. We could be decades away from that reality.
