I lived in Seoul for four years. Those riot police are always stationed around the Gwanghwamun area with buses. Usually just young guys doing their national service.
I used to be one of them less than a decade ago. Now the Auxiliary Police is no more and it's replaced by career policemen but it's the most annoying and frustrating thing since we're just doing what we're commanded to do sacrificing our sleep. I lived in Seoul for four years. Those riot police are always stationed around the Gwanghwamun area with buses. Usually just young guys doing their national service.
I used to be one of them less than a decade ago. Now the Auxiliary Police is no more and it's replaced by career policemen but it's the most annoying and frustrating thing since we're just doing what we're commanded to do sacrificing our sleep. In fact, many veteran rioters know this and some have sympathy towards us but my time at the mandatory service really opened my eyes even as a Korean as to how discouraging the political environment is in our country. This is no exception, just a disgraceful shitshow.
