  • Google's Nobel Prize Winners Stir Debate Over Research | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Google's Nobel Prize winners have stirred a debate over research as AI becomes central to the Nobel Prize categories. The Prize in Physics has been awarded to AI pioneers John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton. Meanwhile, the Nobel Chemistry Prize has been awarded to protein pioneers Baker, Hassabis and Jumper. But among these wins, it is Google that triumphs on the Nobel stage. With no dearth of money and resources, Google and other big-tech firms have been at the forefront of AI research. What does this say about scientific research? Is it concentrated among big corporations? Does the Nobel have a level playing field? Palki Sharma brings you the report.

I dont know what you mean by "label playing field" this is science, not olympics. At the end of the day its science that wins. I hope more amd more big tech companies invest in science. Better then funding wars!

Noble peace prize is the most ridiculous prize and many surprise winners have won it over the years!! This year the top contender is Netanyahu!

The social media scientists say that John Hopfield isn't a Physicist. It will take you 1 Google search to find that John Hopfield is a career Physicist.
He has also won Physics awards like Dirac Medal (2001) for his Hopfield Networks.
Back then no one complaint about giving Dirac Medal for A.I., bcoz back then A.I. wasn't a thing and Neural Networks was put in the field of Statistical Mechanics.

People don't realise that John and Geoffrey are given this Physics Nobel Prize for an invention done in 1984 and 1986 respectively. Back then there was no A.I. and Hopfield Networks was apart of Statistical Mechanics.

Nobel Prize isn't a competition like Olympics. Scientists don't train every year to compete. They take their own time. They don't run after the Prize, they run after finding something new.
You don't get Nobel Prize instantly after your inventions. Geoffrey and Hopfield won Nobel Prize in 2024, but they did their inventions in 1980s.
