Now I have to drown in my own tears, since David has retired. Since he started playing again about 20 years ago, I don’t think I have seen any musician more. My man David Bromberg!
Yes, he was away from touring for a good many years. There's a documentary somewhere that basically tells his musical life story. He spends a lot of time talking and showing his violin/fiddle history. At the end he has I guess about 50+ people (young, middle aged, oldsters) all playing the fiddle all at once in a building! WOW! He even was with Dr. John playing and a good talk about music on this documentary. I've never heard anything like him before or since! GREAT! He is a one of a kind musician/entertainer who can cross old rock & roll, blues, bluegrass, Dixieland, country, and even genres most of us have forgotten about and can put them all together using just guitars, mandolin, fiddles, even brass, and also solo. There's no other like him nor will there ever be anyone like him. Glad he's back on the road touring again!
Still got you, Dave, on original vinyl, cassette tape, and CD, 42 years now. Someone Else's Blues haunts me to this day. Love that song. Thank you for being you.
I've seen Bromberg live and I can tell you that the man is a master musical story teller and he leaves his audience spellbound and totally satisfied. He was a musical prodigy and went to Julliard AND has been lauded by, and played with, Bob Dylan. He's a musicians musician and has been around since the sixties. Anyone in the business worth his salt has great respect for this man.
Missed you bro. Must have been busy with Nancy. Love your music. Saw you in Atlanta every time you came to town. We ain't done yet. We need you. More than ever.
Yes, Mr. Davis, it was a special treat and a joy seeing and hearing Dave and the Angel band perform this Ray Charles classic number. Dave Bromberg is a musical genius!
man i got turned onto him in the 80s from an overnite dj in philly. i was making donuts for a living. ive seen him a few times too it is really sad most people dont even know who he is
Is that your old Martin, David? I still, to this day, feel terrible about knocking that guitar over at Merlefest '06. I'm glad it survived! I hope you and Nancy are well. Hugs, Steve
@@DeaconBlues55 This is Allen, who filmed the video. That is, indeed, a Martin, and not just any Martin guitar. I asked Dave about the guitar, and he told me that it was his Martin “Dave Bromberg Signature Guitar”. You have to be damn good to have Martin name a guitar after you. I know that Willie Nelson has a Martin Signature Guitar, as well. My friend, Dave, has one, and he let me play it once. I’m pretty sure that Joan Baez has one as well. It would be an interesting study to look through the Martin archives and catalogue to see all the “Signature Guitars” that they have anointed.
who woulda thunk it. honeybun yes, you are a musician. i remember you from when i lived in california - appraising violins. that's because nobody else ever paid attention. but i remember him saying that back when. i can't play violin i said. to which he replied: it doesn't make you a bad person. i loved him before i ever heard a note. susan messer
I'm glad he came back to performing music. Great guitarist, and he is such a ridiculously poor singer, but he makes it happen, anyway. The fact that he would attempt a Ray Charles song shows he is fearless. ;) A great, funny, smart entertainer, too. Seen him a lot in the 1970s. I have always admired him , except for the aforementioned squeaking and squalling.
Singer, songwriter, musician, luthier and musicologist, but above all an American treasure.
@@jameshunter5485 Indeed! Well said.

David Bromberg should be in some gosh-darn Hall of Fame. Maybe he already is, which if is the case, is great news. What a great talent AND showman.

juilliard? not really. He studied ethnomusicology at Columbia for a while, but I believe dropped out to be a player and hang out with Gary Davis.
I've seen him maybe 20 times in the 70s and 80s.
Thanks so much for posting this great video of a great artist doing a great tune.
Those harmony honeys you got sound great

So Good and so many touches and stylings of the Great Steve Mann, David is showing you here..
so hapy David made the good decision to resume playing. I can't imagine a worse loss in the musical world if he hadn't.

>>he is such a ridiculously poor singer, ..". Hm, maybe not a pretty singer, but he communicates a huge amount with his voice, IMO
Have you heard Joe Cockers version??
Yes,I love it.Joe Cocker puts so much feeling into all his music.
Go getem dave, Darius Rucker did it without the blowfish
