    I really love this design! I am also pleased to see that it is a stark departure from the cookie cutter design of our chapels that has prevailed for several decades now. I understand why the Church takes a standardized approach in our building designs, but I would love to see a revival in more unique chapels. And please, please: mid century modern style church meetinghouses! 😊

      What style is that? Explain. I hope it’s okay to mention this, but I think that some temple styles needed to be redone to better show who we are, and who we were in the early days. But temples are temples. Whatever style they choose, it should be pleasing to the Lord. That’s for sure!!

    Kevin Pearson is a great person ,I cant believe he came to our small little ward in Hikurangi,Northland ,New Zealand some years ago,He bore his testimony and there was only about 50 people in our ward that day,He said he came from Chicago, a CEO of a medical company of 5000 employees ,he said he felt humbled to be amongst us,and he remembered everybody's name and a very intelligent man and said he didnt know why he was in our ward that day considering theres only sheeps and cows outside and in the country ,he said he learnt why he was there,he saw we hugged and greeted each other ,and said that's how the lord does things,thank you brother pearson I've never forgotten ,God bless you.

    I've been in a few meetinghouses outside of Utah that were primarily re-purposed buildings or sections of buildings, and it's cool that some interesting features of those are showing up here in this design. I'm the sort that appreciates beautiful design and buildings that are meant to bring people together, and I'm glad that the church sees that here. Keep in mind, everyone is welcome to come to a church when it is open, and I really appreciate that we can have these kind of publics spaces even in a downtown environment.

    It's neat to see how much is being invested in keeping downtown Salt Lake City alive and vibrant. If it weren't for continual efforts, a city like Salt Lake could easily become run down.

    Speaking directly to us in our day in Mormon chapter 8: 37 For behold, ye do love money, and your substance, and your fine apparel, and the adorning of your churches, more than ye love the poor and the needy, the sick and the afflicted.

    • @kenton6804
      @kenton6804 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      An excellent point, but what's happening here is part of the challenge of striking a balance between having nice buildings for all to use, and taking care of the poor. In fact, the church takes great care to ensure they give to the poor all while managing things like this building. One can have nice things, without forgetting the poor. Not that I'm saying more couldn't be done, more could always be done.

    • @Avoicecyringinthesuburbs
      @Avoicecyringinthesuburbs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kenton6804 I understand that line of reasoning to justify the current state of affairs, however the Book of Mormon is very clear that we are off balance. We simply love mammon more than God. That's not my opinion, but a statement of fact from the Lord. We can either choose to believe that and repent, or grab the nearest pacifier and reassure ourselves all is well in Zion.

    • @livinthedream4479
      @livinthedream4479 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There must have been a need to have this building here in downtown. They couldn’t just build a shack mid downtown. The church is known worldwide for its humanitarian efforts. Not to worry

    • @terryslade6240
      @terryslade6240 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Avoicecyringinthesuburbs C'mon, man, quit judging the church by saying "we simply love mammon more than God." I've attended church in trailers, and the singing was accompanied by a small programmed synthesizer provided by the church. I've also attended church in a small meeting room used for a lot of other functions; our singing accompaniment was on a small stereo with CDs provided by the church. I've also attended church in a large chapel whose membership reached 800 and there was a pipe organ in front. And just FYI, I've attended conference in the venerable Tabernacle in Salt Lake City.
      Just because the church provides lots of money (paid to the church by tithes) for meeting houses and temples doesn't mean that WE love money more than God, nor does the church leadership. I live in a SMALL one room apartment, but I still pay my tithes and offerings.
      And yes, I love my God and my Savior.

    • @Avoicecyringinthesuburbs
      @Avoicecyringinthesuburbs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@livinthedream4479 Alma 32 10 Behold I say unto you, do ye suppose that ye cannot worship God save it be in your synagogues only? There really is no need for it, but there are a lot of people in need in the church regardless of the humanitarian efforts made by the church. Again, I am not the one making the accusations, the Prophets and even the Lord himself have made those accusations towards us in our day in the scriptures. The only way around it is to deny God's word.

    I feel great because for a long time I was thinking on the same idea, I don’t mean the architects took my idea away, because I’m not an architect I am an UX designer, and I was thinking that by just building a meeting house in some locations. I was thinking not only commercial also residential, mixed. But it cannot be fully residential because you need parking space for the visitors on sundays.

    I wish we would make bigger Chapels in Utah; it’s silly to have two meeting houses across the street or down the block. You don’t need to build this massive like this one in other areas. This is truly a beautiful building. I hope more of the older chapels go under renovation to give them a more modern fresher look. -Chad James
