  • Today we're building a big block ford for under $600. I got this ford 460 from a 1996 f-250 in the junkyard and built it to go in the station wagon.
    Let me know what you guys think!!!
    Go get them revs!!

    500 for carb and linkage. All the accessories and belts maybe 200 min. Motor mounts. Cam is 500 for flat tapper. 150 for the lubes coolant and oil. 40 for plugs. Distributor and wires for 200 any configuration, 600 for basic electronic. That’s stock exh manifolds which is good for this level. 300 to get cooling straightened around. C6 min rebuild is 230 plus 35 in atf. That will be 325 to 400 go .You can do the bottom end later for maybe 700 with shop crank work and get 550-650. What’s all that like 2500?

    • @vasilibrown
      @vasilibrown  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I already have most of the stuff you're talking about from the old motor in the station wagon. Also even if I did need everything you talked about, I think you and I both know your list can be found cheaper if you put some effort into it. Thanks for watching! stick around for the dyno video!

    As far as reusing your head bolts, it's perfectly fine when building a big block ford. The big fords have gigantic head bolts that can be reused sevral times with no problem. Chevys have much smaller head bolts & replacing them is were that rule applies much more often.

    • @Theupstateidiots
      @Theupstateidiots ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Reusing head bolts once or twice is not an issue unless there is torque to yield bolts which are used in newer stuff such as LS style engines. Which even people reuse those often.

      YEARS BACK AS A STEAM FITTER. WHEN I REUSED THE SAME BOLTS ON FLANGES THEY LEAKED. SO AS A RULE OF THUMB NEW BOLTS WERE A MUST. OLD BOLTS ARE STRETCHED AND LOOSE THEIR ABILITY TO ACT LIKE SPRINGS ALLOWING THE FLANGES TO MATE EVENLY. THIS THEORY ALSO APPLIES TO CYLINDER HEADS WHERE THE HEADS NEED TO MATE EVENLY TO THE BLOCK. ON THE SMALL BLOCK FORD BEING A LIGHT WEIGHT CASTING, NEVER REUSE THE ORIGINAL BOLTS. THROW THEM AWAY. IN GENERAL FROM WHAT I LEARNED IN A PARTICULAR FIELD OF MECHANICS ALSO APPLIES TO OTHER FIELDS OF MECHANICS. FOR A NORMAL NONE ABUSED CONDITIONS YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH USING THE ORIGINAL BOLTS, AND EVEN THEN I DON'T RECOMMEND IT. FOR INSURANCE ESPECIALLY FOR SEVERE WORK DUTY AND RACE ENGINES. THIS IS MY HANDS ON EXPERIENCE. ALWAYS USE NEW BOLTS. ARP CLAIMS YOU CAN REUSE THEIR BOLTS 2-3 TIMES BECAUSE OF THE BETTER METAL TECHNOLOGY. BUT A THIRD TIME I QUESTION. ONCE THE HEAT GETS TO THEM OVER TIME THEY LOSE THEIR ABILITY TO STRETCH BACK.
