She did say in an interview that she wanted to make the song relatable to different scenarios so listeners could take what they wanted from it, it's brilliantly written and obviously brilliantly performed, the consistency level from her is just incredible 🇬🇧🔥👌❤️.
Yes, I saw that interview and it's true this song apply's to all level of problems duly encountered that's why the lyrics did not hit directly to a daughter/father misunderstanding that's why her purpose applies to all feuds duly encountered. Thanks sir for the love and support to my Queen Morissette. More of Mori's please. 💯😘

She wrote it about her dad but it isn't obvious but that's also great as it can apply to other relationship breakups as well! I had sort of a falling out with a friend and I can totally relate to this! 😩
Yeah that song is for her father but she and the team still made it universal where any people can relate as well with their own kind of broken relationship 💔 She is such a wonderful artists👍💯♥️

I could be completely off with this but you have to remember that these songs were written by Morissette/Dave and they come from a Filipino perspective not a Western one. Choices are made by an artist through the prism of their own reality. An example of this: the synth choice might be something that is a style choice there and not as much here. I always defend an artists choice if it is earned.
Stranger Things synths behind her-haha! Well, this is why many of us love the Sunset Version and the live version with the band!
But the different feel for each version makes sense. We don’t always feel one way about a failed relationship. Like the different stages of grieving, right? Denial, anger, frustration, acceptance, etc.

Let's give Morrisett a lot of credit for trying. During the pandemic that's when she started writing cause she had much time on her hands, and you can also find a bunch of other songs that she wrote during that period and performed for example Phoenix wish also on the Wish Bus and other live performance. For those who haven't heard it yet, I highly recommend listening to her newest version of this song called "Love You Still (Sunset Version)". It's a much more stripped down and moving version of the song (IMO).

I heard she’s a daddy’s girl and I guess it’s the first love story of any girl as daddy is always your first love and her father is a rock singer so they’ve shared many a connection

There's even slight changes in this from her EP and the live version she did (where she had her hair in braids, looking all fly). You can interpret it how you want because she meant for this to be relatable for any scenarios. But that's why the sunset version is just so much more raw and emotional. Just wish you saw these other versions before the sunset version but all good. Her EP is so good. The WishBus is a treasure trove and yes, very unforgiving environment anyways because most stations don't have the best equipment for mixing but not the WishBus. But then again, the talents really are just amazing. It's almost like the WishBus is a standard. Definitely don't see that here in North America. Cheers!

All of the songs on her Signature EP.....have a personal distinction behind the lyrics.....LYS , you are now aware, Trophy = leans towards sexism, how men at times use a partner to fluff their egos , Mirror = self doubt , low self image and anxiety , Will You Stay = vunerability in getting serious in a new relationship, and Phoenix = fighting through the bad time and never giving up. Hope you have the EP on your playlist to absorb. as well as support Mori.

Mark -- I agree with you on the placement of "Still." Even if the difference is quantum, i.e., "I still love you" = "the continuity of love," compared with "I love you still" = "constancy of love." Given that parental love is a kind of covenant, I would say the latter applies.

There are only of handful of reactors (mainly someone that has vocal training background) that I tune into and yours is one on that list. Most others are too afraid to call it as they see it in case they offend the viewers.

Love your reactions! But Headvoice? That G#5 at the end is a heavy chest mixed voice. The note didn't have a rounded, hollow and heady sound of the Headvoice register.

My opinion is that Her father was blinded by a huge amount of money that MORISSETTE earned during that time and He was afraid to lose it when Her MORISSETTE fell in love and get married. Jzst imagine the pain He gave zo His daughter, prohibited His Wife and Son not to see Morissette and never to have any form of communications in more than a year? and He made some statements that almost destroyed the reputations and career

Hey Marc, I love your comments mate but I have to disagree with you on your interpretation of the chorus lyrics... "I still love you" and I love you, still" can have similar meanings... It's not that greatly different as you suggest...
And lyrics that are more generalised yet meaningful is how great song lyrics are written...rather than just writing for her situation which the lyrics fit beautifully, she has an awareness that she is also writing for the people who might be in a similar but different scenario...

you should google about their fight, specially the tweets of his then boyfriend with his father and back and forth. it's a mess. she ended up marrying the guy despite her parents objections. hope they reconcile in the future. life is so short for petty things.
