Actually if you go to Laurence Nolan’s TH-cam channel, he is the drummer in this, you can see it from his perspective. He said they did this (totally live). And one other for emergency backup. So this is actually one take live. Part of why it might seem edited is Dave Lamar ( her husband), who films all her TH-cam music had 5 or 6 cameras all filming and then he puts the video together. Thanks for appreciating her. As a fan from the US, I keep waiting for her big breakout moment. She deserves it

It's an actual live performance. Her musical director, Adonis Tabanda, said in his reaction video to this performance that they had two straight takes of the song and then chose the better take. The video edit contains multiple camera angles from the two takes patched together, but again, the actual vocal is an unedited single run through from one of the two takes.
Same with her Bruno Mars medley two takes only and upload the best one!

Morisette, her generations genius
The song was actually originally sung and co-written by another powerhouse singer from the Philippines, Sheryn Regis. (We're introducing you to a lot aren't we haha). When a Filipino drama series was looking for songs to include in its soundtrack, they commissioned Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw and asked Morissette to sing it. This is her reinterpretation of the song and has since then managed to catapult it into higher popularity.
The Broken Marriage Vow is the name of the drama and Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw translates to 'I want to let go'.
In my opinion, you can feel the rawness and exhaustion in the original version, and it's probably because Sheryn sang from personal experiences. Morissette however sings it with a lot of vigor and theatre. Like she's devastated and she's desperately trying to let go. Like you said, it's kind of a perfect song for her.
They're both honestly really cathartic to listen to.
Last thing, The Broken Marriage Vow is a TV series here in the Philippines which lasted 2 seasons and used this song as its theme song.

I seem to recall Morissette’s musical director, Adonis Tabanda (?) saying that she sang the song twice and this one was the better of the two. Tabanda said he prefers the WISH bus performance because her voice was fresher and brighter. But you’re right, there is something raw about this performance. It’s about a woman who is at war with herself - whether to hang on to a failing relationship or letting go no matter how painful. Toward the end of that song, with that wail, you can feel the woman’s torment, before finally, resolutely, and resignedly deciding that she will, indeed, have to let go. Morissette, I believe, is very happily married, but she let’s you feel this woman’s pain.

Thanks for reviewing Morissette once again. I believe this your second review in the last 2 months. This is a very emotional song that talks about letting go in a relationship. This was shot live with a band, arranged by her Musical Director, Adonis Tabanda, who is incidentally, part of the 3rd Avenue band. The video was taken by her husband. If you loved this performance, you will even love her performance in her recent cover of Bruno Mars Evolution Medley. She did the medley to celebrate Bruno Mars' birthday. The setting is the same since it was arranged by the same Musical Director. Hope you can check it out.

That is so ridiculously emotional even without understanding the lyrics. From the breakdown I've seen it's a really sad song with a nice little empowerment message, but to me the vocal swells and growls really sell it. She's just an amazing talent.

Ditto - it's hard to decide which one is better. This is obviously great, but Akin has the seamless transition into whistle register and the super long phrases.
This is the second of two live takes. Her native, or first language is Visaya, or Cebuano. She has said she thinks lyrics in English. She was educated in English on the Island of Cebu. She had to learn Tagalog when she was moved to Manila at 14 in 2010 to pursue her music career.

I actually came to Morissette through my all-time favourite musical theater artist Lea Salonga, and Morissette is clearly my favourite singer now in all places where Lea is not performing (of course I know that Mori has done a couple of MT performances splendidly). This number is one more example for what Morissette can do, and she surprises me again and again whenever I listen to her.
One thing Morissette is a unique vocalist is that, never in a history of music Morissette is just a humble person for sharing her music for free, not in some artist or much of them all, they sell their music in a big concert so they got more profit on it, but Morissette is quite different, that's why people around the world loves her so much💚

Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw translate in English to ...I want to let go , a wife fed up and hurt, the vows were one sided. You can feel the hurt, and sadness its come to this in 1st verse...and how it turns to disappointment and frustration......then to anger......and finally...acceptance . It was written for the TV Drama , The Broken Marriage Vows . Dave her hubby was behind the camera, and yes....its live.....you can hear the mic pops, and that is her MD , Adonis and his band 3RD Ave that have been behind Mori for , 6 years.
They just released a Bruno Mars 15 song medley in 7:37 minutes, done at the same location. Those "" Mor-ieks "" I find, emote more emotion and meaning to the lyrics.

You should revisit this song with all subs and translation. The delivery, dynamics, emphasis on syllables are what drives the emotions of the song. Mori style and her genius in interpreting the lyrics is all intertwined in the message of the song. Don't worry Tagalog is an easy language.

as per the question if she is singing it live or just made a studio version of this and just shooting the video. Yes she is singing it live. She does a few takes and then editing comes in and makes the video from that. This is done at studio 28, and you know its done live because some of the band members have their own youtube channel and posts real time videos of them performing while filming this.
She was slated to have a concert in Vancouver, Oct.29 , at The Massey Theatre....but the Canadian dates were cancelled , this second tour Threelogy 2.0 is to cover 4 cities in the US that the first Threelogy had to cancel last spring. I have a feeling , she might be saving new cities, for a solo concert....as the Threelogy one...includes 2 other male singers.

@@MarcDanielPatrick Mowienatic I chatted with on Twitter that was going to fly in from Edm, said she spoke with someone from StarMedia Productions, the company that is promoting the THREELOGY tour and that spokeperson asked , if Morissette would draw over 300 to a solo concert. I mention to friend, Mori was here at Massey Theatre in 2018 and the lower seating area was full....and some balcony ( about 700 ).....I think now.....Massey might be to small, as its capacity is just over 1200. If you are in Vancouver like me....will let you know if Vancouver is in the cards for a SOLO concert in 2023

Adonis Tabanda (bass player), her Musical Director said that he is usually 1 or 2 take singer. From memory he said that this was a 2 take live performance. BTW he has a channel and talks about these performances in detail.
Great to hear your thoughts. Thanks for the review. There is a LIVE performance of the same song she performed on Wish Bus. She was under the weather at that time and not feeling well, but she still brought her A-game, and more stellar that this version.
One of Mori's great strenghts is her diction and enunciation of her singing words. Each vowels and consonants can be distinctly heard, even at high vocal range. And of course, that whistle range :-)
As to the song: this song was originally written for and sang by Sheryn Regis, also a phenominal Filipina singer from Cebu City, Philippines, who, like Mori, was also a placer in a Singing Contest in the same TV Network in the Philippines, where Mori is now signed. Sheryn also came from the same city where Mori came from.
As to the lyrics: "Gusto ko nang bumitaw", roughly translated "I want to let go" - The story of love that is about to be shattered, then a breakdown in communication between to lovers, and the confusion as to who will let go first. However, the girl still believes there is still hope to save the love, adding more to the confusion T_T
When the song concluded, the lyrics says - "She is chosing herself. Will let go - Letting go now..."

Singing while sitting down isn’t a Wish bus thing. It’s a very common setting in the Philippines just as much as standing while singing. As a singer in the Philippines you need to know how to do both if you wanted to be taken seriously. It show cases effortlessness while in a relaxed environment with the audience.
“Gusto ko nang bumitaw” translated means “I want to let go”. The next line that says “Ngunit ayaw pa ng puso” means “but my heart does not want to yet”.
If possible, check her version at the Wishbus... some have done so and gave their comparison.. pls. do so.

You should check her wishbus also. It’s the same song=different feeling. This live band performance feels angry/frustrated with the whirlwind of emotions. Wishbus version feels sad/sorrowful with the acceptance of letting go.

FYI, This song is a cover, but at this moment Morissette is definitely owning it, because she gives it more passion and meaning. A woman named Sheryn Regis is the original artist. Incidentally, 10/16/22 Sheryn & Morissette did a duet of this song on stage LIVE. You mentioned Morissette's diction, she is Tri-ligual , she is fluent in english, and 2 dialects, Tagalog which she is singing the song in, and Bisaya, which is her TRUE native tongue, because she was born and grew up in a region where Bisaya is spoken ( PH has over 165 + dialects, and it is normal to see a Filipino that speaks more than 2 dialects, because the closeness of the communities with their various dialects. )

Morissette can sing well in both languages. She appeared in a local musical production 'Camp Rock' back then. 'Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw' means--'I Wanna Let Go.'

The restraint voice at early part of the song portrays choosing between continue the love she feels or end it then at middle and end part of the song with strong and determined voice portrays the feeling that she decided to end the one sided love and priority to love herself.....
