As Abbie once said and i find this really relevant: "You don't have to be qualified to write. If you have a story to tell, then you are perfectly qualified". I learned that during writing process we should avoid the prejudices about ourselves.
Just the video I need. Abbie, because of you, I completed the 1st 69,157 words of my life in 10 months, while battling with an incurable illness! All thanks to your psychological approach in writing. I sure will name you in my acknowledgement. Love, from Malaysia 🇲🇾

As a new author, I receive this advice. You're right, Abbie. It is better to under promise and over deliver, than the opposite:) As always, great content!
"Focus on the readers, not yourself" Wise words!!! Thank you! That's the way I see it, especially speaking from a reader turned writer. Writer's are creating something to be read, so readers are half the relationship.
But seriously, each time I remember Internal Conflict, my mind screams 'Abbie Emmons!' You've really inscribed the Desire vs Fear stuff into my head and it's barely a month since I came across your channel. That's a great branding by and by😊
The irony that I was just explaining to my family a good portion of the reason I get excited for a certain content creator’s videos is because they’re always so well done (either in editing, in the puns, in the style). Your explanation of this is really on point, because what gets me going back to certain folks for more content is knowing what I’m getting. I actually said the other day that the randomness of people posting TH-cam videos instead of sticking to a schedule always has me really excited. It’s like a treat on a random day of the week. Unexpected greatness. And if there’s a randomness, then you know that there is effort put into the video because it wasn’t rushed for a deadline. Maybe one day I’ll post more than fanfiction, so thank you for this look at creating a style to a brand. Even now this gives me a good idea of how to create something that is more eye catching. :D
Great video as always! People often forget that an author's work isn't only writing the books, but also promoting it so people can read their art. I've always been interested in personal branding and I love the fact that you introduced this topic on your channel, Abbie!
I’m not planning on being an indie author, but this information is still so so helpful!! I’ve been staring at my Insta trying to figure out how in the world I’m going to use it to market myself. 😅 looking forward to this series!
8:06 "Reputation, once lost, can never be recovered" Why do I feel like you're paraphrasing Mr. Darcy? "My good opinion, once lost is lost forever." XD
I'm so thankful I clicked on your video. You are so smart and the information is just what I needed to hear. Thank you for sharing! look forward to watching more videos like this.
6:36 Yeah that's true I remember you as Abbie the one that can't shut up about internal conflict. And the reason why I very much focus about internal conflict to make my characters 3 dimensional.
This video didn't have a lot of new information for me, but it was useful because it reminded me of the *core* of what I'm trying to accomplish with my author platform. Thank you
Two thoughts. 1. I discovered this channel a few weeks ago and I really appreciate your perspective, and the value you share here. Thank you. 2. There is a fun irony when a writer wears nail polish that is reminiscent of liquid paper. You rock!!
Great advice! I especially needed to hear the stuff about overcommitting lol. I'd love to create and release content weekly for my youtube channel but unfortunately that's just not going to be possible as a college student working part time. If not weekly though, maybe once a month...I'll give that a shot! Less pressure will make it more enjoyable anyway, so win win, yay. :)
Thanks for sharing this insight! This kind of indy authors advice is great. I am not a prose writer, I am a scriptwriter and indy filmmaker and I do get a lot of value from your channel. Just figured it could be cool to know you have other kinds of writers among your audience!

Well, you do have that internal-conflict edge, and a nice side effect was that your videos are so fun and inspiring to watch! What if I focused on unique, challenging, coming-of-age situations, bc mine was, let's say, not your usual high school (although mom was so strict re: our education! This gives me the I side edge on youth that suffer loneliness from being though "too good," or "too weird," "from another world," lol. I mean, someone else could try to make this up, hut real life is often "stranger than fiction." 😂 We each have our own niche, so no need to hold back too much from insightful discussions. Does anyone have any instagram or TH-cam tips? Is TH-cam mire effective, or should I do both? Tips on methods? (I'm living abroad at ATM, FYI.) Thank you!
Hey Abbie! Ghost fan here from Brazil! Could you share the platform that you use to get short videos that you use? I loved your tips... Thanks for your time!
Thank you so much Abbie, this video was just as helpful as all of your other videos. Since I'm a beginner writer, your videos helped me to improve and be a better writer. And I'm glad you made this video too because I'm at the editing stage of my first novel and I'm not sure what to do next. Should I choose traditional or self publishing? Which one do you recommend for a beginner writer? Thank you again for sharing your knowledge🙂
Hi Abbie! First of all I wanna thank you cause without my writing career would've been very suck, because of your lessons and advices my friends can't believe that I have such a beautiful writing and plotting style that I use by following your content 😅 Second of all I wanna ask you if it's ok to translate your template into Arabic for personal use and share it with other people so they can improve their writhing style and because not all people are able to understand English very well Finally, I'm writing a story with enemies to lovers trope, so basically she has to kill the prince to revenge to her father's death but eventually she starts catching feelings towards him, and a lot of more things happen, my question is that if It's ok to make two characters fall in love in short period like the story takes two weeks or three, but is this time enough for two people to fall in love? I hope you answer me, btw you're a Legend, keep going!
Hey does anyone have tips for finding your edge? I have a book that I’m currently writing but I haven’t entirely figured out what I can bring to the table aka the writing community that no one else has before.
Hi Abbie :D First of all, I really love your content ! Keep going ! Also, I love your filming quality. I was curious to know what camera(s) you were using :))
I need to buckle down on learning how to Instagram better because I can't make TH-cam content. My tourettes kills my self esteem and I hate all my tics, and I don't have the equipment to edit.
I hope to write a Ratchet & Clank movie once I graduate college next year. I want that to be my first professional project in my budding career. I would be starting my writing career in earnest during my late 20s. Is that late in my life to be starting?
@@elf1709 For Ratchet & Clank? No its owned by Sony Adaptations are big business in the film (and tv) industry nowadays. I intend to start off my professional career by writing film/tv adaptations of existing franchises before making entirely original stories. Arcane: League of Legends was released late last year and I loved it. I want to make something as fantastic as that series was.
Awesome video! When you said you’re planning on making more indie author videos I literally thought *Y Y E S* lol. Have a great day/night whoever reads this, Jesus loves you ❤️
Thanks; really appreciate your work. One thing about platform, is that it is ... slanted. I've been building on sand since 2005, since part of my 'brand' is my attitudes about politics, and this has smacked me off of twitter and facebook and other platforms where I have developed an audience, but these companies (ideologies) censor the ideas so my accounts get deleted, and have to start over; new names, new accounts -- this is demoralizing and so destructive. So what if someone doesn't agree with me, that's cool, but for those who do, they can't find me now; 10,000 + followers, gone. Too many names over too many accounts over too many years. Starting from scratch for two decades now to develop a reliable platform. Because of woke bigotry, as we can best term it now.
It's like this idea of 'free speech' doesn't get support from the writer community, who may not be aware that there are authors who have politically 'sensitive' topics, that are considered verboten by the powers that be. Bottom line, looking for agents and publishers and readers of 'old school' or conservative, traditional values -- strong character development story, screenplays, series - JFK to present. Real life.

This has got to be one of the most crucial and unheard of subjects in the writing world. Thank you so much for this. But I have a question that hasn't left my head since I left the fanfiction world due to losing my reputation in it. I went from one fandom to another and my once loyal fans didn't show up for my content anymore. Now I've taken writing more seriously and want to start my own brand but I'm afraid of what it'll cost me if I switch my content. I like dramatic romance, slice of life, fantasy, and mystery along with historical fiction but I'm afraid that if I go from one genre to another (since they all work perfectly well on their own) that I may lose my audience again. How can I prevent that from happening? Sorry this is so long but I'd really love to hear your input. Thank you😘
Hello! Not Abbie, sorry, but your situation reminds me of a youtuber I've followed called InkRose. She started as a prominent name in the My Little Pony fandom, mostly for her great head-cannon stories, and then later started working on her own fantasy stories and found that her view count dropped significantly (plus people barraging her for more MLP content) Since then I've seen her go through fantasy to paranormal mystery to her current work being a decades inspired sci-fi, so quite the range of genres! As a fan I've been interested in all of them however because one thing that's remained consistent no matter the genre is her detail in world and character building. To use Abbie's terminology, the promise InkRose offered remained the same regardless of the genre and that's why I've remained an avid follower of her. (I don't play video games nor really intend to but I've been hooked on hearing about her current game project because of the story she's worked into it lol) I don't know if sharing this will help but I hope it does!
Hello! I'm obviously not Abbie n.n' but I'm a fellow fic/original writer and I can tell you this: if your audience leaves is because your work doesn't match with their likes anymore. Just like Abbie says, you need to find who are your readers, people interested in what you have to offer, or try to fit in some niche and attempt to please people, but mind that doing the later might not make you happy and might not make them happy. Maggie Stiefvater (famous YA author) explains this so much better in her online seminar. 100% recommend along with Abbie's videos to make you a rockstar writer.
In traditional publishing, you would use pen names to write in different genres. From what I can tell, the general wisdom seems to be that most readers WON'T follow you across genres.
I think one thing i haven’t seen anyone else advise is that when you switch genres you have to ask yourself what about my first story is something i can take into this other story that’s a different genre. For ex. Let’s say this new story is a fantasy with whole new worlds but your first was this contemporary romance. Well then if so what did you do really well within that romance story? Was there amazing tension between characters? Was the dialogue so magical and witty you couldn’t stop smiling? Maybe it’s the way those main characters have such real and strong internal conflicts that readers couldn’t look away. Whatever it is that you’ve received feedback on doing well you’ll want to incorporate that into your new work and then tell your audience about it. Let them know what’s similar in that new work. Tell them “hey i know you liked my previous ___ so I think you’ll enjoy my new story because i do some of that just in a different genre” i think communication with your audience is really important and it’s like abbie said it gets into the psychology of writing. If you’re too fearful that your new story won’t matter than readers will see this and be wary of whether you should even attempt to do something different, so even if you aren’t actually confident you have to exude a little fake confidence and fearlessly put your new work out there cause there will always be someone who dislikes what you create
Something that puzzles me, Abbie, is that your books are romantic fiction, but your videos are about writing. It seems like two different products for two different audiences.
you're storybuilding not marketingy that's fine but your video title is inaccurate. it's not branding. branding is things like logos, common font used, cover styles. and yeah, optimizing writing for marketing/search engines doesn't lead to GREAT TIMELSS writing there's a reason orwell pointed out that most of the authors at the ministry of truth were computer assisted pornographers. he meant it.
I think a story behind the author would tie into the Author brand. People like to know a little something about the author so you have to be able to give them something to know about you.
I love your content but your opening title screens trigger my photosensitive migraines. :( The black and white flashing. I have to close my eyes for them.
As Abbie once said and i find this really relevant: "You don't have to be qualified to write. If you have a story to tell, then you are perfectly qualified". I learned that during writing process we should avoid the prejudices about ourselves.
Remember guys: Don't wait to sort your brand out after your book is complete. Platforms take time to grow. Start now.
Just the video I need. Abbie, because of you, I completed the 1st 69,157 words of my life in 10 months, while battling with an incurable illness! All thanks to your psychological approach in writing. I sure will name you in my acknowledgement. Love, from Malaysia 🇲🇾

You are great!
#1 Think From Your Reader's Perspective!
Give them a reason to interact with your content!
Find your edge, your unique factor!
How do I want to be remembered?
What value will I bring them to you!
#Asthethics
- consistency with visual content
- they should know that it is YOUR STUFF
- fonts, colour, a style that matches your vibe
- who are your readers, and what are they interested in?
- what makes me recognise a brand, and how can I use that to work for myself?!
#3 Quality and Consistency
- reputation
- every single thing is your first impression
- be consistent with any routine SHOW UP
- Level of trust with reputation
- what kind of experience I wanna give my readers?
- what will be my routine to push out the contents?
As a new author, I receive this advice. You're right, Abbie. It is better to under promise and over deliver, than the opposite:) As always, great content!

Thank you!! As a writer and hopefully soon to be published author, this is suuper helpful (as all your videos are lol)
Same about 100 Days of Sunlight!! Loved it even more the second time around!!! XD
But seriously, each time I remember Internal Conflict, my mind screams 'Abbie Emmons!'
You've really inscribed the Desire vs Fear stuff into my head and it's barely a month since I came across your channel. That's a great branding by and by😊

I was just pondering this topic and boom! A video from you about it. Abbie you're too good.
This is one of the best videos I've seen on this topic, and not even just for authors, but content creation in general. Thanks so much!
Great video as always! People often forget that an author's work isn't only writing the books, but also promoting it so people can read their art. I've always been interested in personal branding and I love the fact that you introduced this topic on your channel, Abbie!
So excited! I've been waiting since last Wednesday for your next video :)
"Oh that's Abbie, the one who can't shut up about internal conflict" - that's EXACTLY what I think every time! Lol
I’m not planning on being an indie author, but this information is still so so helpful!! I’ve been staring at my Insta trying to figure out how in the world I’m going to use it to market myself. 😅 looking forward to this series!

This video needs more views! It's so great
Very good episode! I was just starting to build my platform and then this video came up! Good stuff
This is incredible. Thank you, Abbie. You are the best.
I wish I could hear more about the path you ve walked towards your success... It’s fascinating.....
Babies, you are heaven-sent. Always saying exactly what I need to hear!
Thank you! I’m in desperate need of this.
Thanks for the video Abbie!
Great stuff, Abbie! Thanks!
Lol. Beautiful, Abbie. Nicely done.
This video didn't have a lot of new information for me, but it was useful because it reminded me of the *core* of what I'm trying to accomplish with my author platform. Thank you
Yay for more videos on indie publishing/building a brand. I’m so tired of the advice: “just write the next book” as if I can write a book a month… 😐
This is great stuff. Thanks Abbie and stay awesome.
So helpful to me at this very moment. Thanks!
Tks, your video was helpful. Branding is everything.
Thanks, Abbie, You touched on one of my most difficult hurdles as a budding novelist. 🙏
This is just a must-watch video for all indie authors 🤩 We just admire your insightful videos!
Abbie, thank you so much!
Two thoughts.
1. I discovered this channel a few weeks ago and I really appreciate your perspective, and the value you share here. Thank you.
2. There is a fun irony when a writer wears nail polish that is reminiscent of liquid paper. You rock!!
Damn that intro is fire!!!
Thank you for addressing this. As an author at a small, independent press, it was very useful to learn this
This is a good one! Thanks Abbie!
First time here. Good content I need to get my children’s books 📚 out there. Im so excited 😅
Great advice! I especially needed to hear the stuff about overcommitting lol. I'd love to create and release content weekly for my youtube channel but unfortunately that's just not going to be possible as a college student working part time. Great video as always, Thanks Abbie 💗

This helps so much. My novel Lethal Woman is available for pre-order and I feel so worried about if it will sell
I'm hoping to use this to hook my potential reader.
I love ur content!
I would recommend doing research on both and look at the pros and cons of both and then decide which is for you and will benefit you as a writer.
@@clairisaphoinix23 Thank you for the advice. 🙂👍I will definitely do research on both before I decide.
@@emokekolumban2287 You're welcome 🙂 Reedsy is also great resource for information.
Hi Abbie!
First of all I wanna thank you cause without my writing career would've been very suck, because of your lessons and advices my friends can't believe that I have such a beautiful writing and plotting style that I use by following your content 😅
Second of all I wanna ask you if it's ok to translate your template into Arabic for personal use and share it with other people so they can improve their writhing style and because not all people are able to understand English very well
Finally, I'm writing a story with enemies to lovers trope, so basically she has to kill the prince to revenge to her father's death but eventually she starts catching feelings towards him, and a lot of more things happen, my question is that if It's ok to make two characters fall in love in short period like the story takes two weeks or three, but is this time enough for two people to fall in love?
No its owned by Sony
Adaptations are big business in the film (and tv) industry nowadays.
Real life.
can you talk about writing for middle grade?
What's middle grade? You mean writing stories for children?

(I don't play video games nor really intend to but I've been hooked on hearing about her current game project because of the story she's worked into it lol)
I don't know if sharing this will help but I hope it does!
@@cmbwriter perfect response

I think they're different, but still kind of related, because writers are also readers, even though not everyone likes romantic books, specifically.

Would you be willing to review of a chapter of a book I'm writing? Deep pov.. I'm even willing to pay you.
you're storybuilding not marketingy
that's fine but your video title is inaccurate.
it's not branding. branding is things like logos, common font used, cover styles. and yeah, optimizing writing for marketing/search engines doesn't lead to GREAT TIMELSS writing
there's a reason orwell pointed out that most of the authors at the ministry of truth were computer assisted pornographers. he meant it.
I think a story behind the author would tie into the Author brand. People like to know a little something about the author so you have to be able to give them something to know about you.
Brand Story is part of marketing. She's talking about a specific part of marketing.
I love your content but your opening title screens trigger my photosensitive migraines. :( The black and white flashing. I have to close my eyes for them.
