    Absolutely cracking series and run down mate! A very realistic look at what goes into (and how much time it actually takes) to achieve a car goal! Reckon you will get more benefit in adding a stall and changing diff gears than upping the boost too - will completely change the way the car drives and responds and will make great use of the power you already have! Will have to get XW into shape so we can line up the green Falcons at Heathcote at some point! Look forward to the next builds!!

    I’m currently gathering the parts to do my NA BF XR6 turbo conversion. Tracking similar to your budget which is good considering that these parts are typically a little more expensive here in NZ.

    Nice! I really want to do an AU XR6+t build and should have the funds to do so soon enough.
    I recently +t'd my P12 Primera QR20DE, which no one ever does so I was going in blind and figuring it out as I went, so the XR6 should be a cakewalk in comparison. Plus it taught me a lot about how to approach such projects and be prepared for some of the unexpected costs, potential issues, and work that can pop up in the process. I've also got an old buggered factory manual parts car laying around to do a manual conversion, as well as spares galore lol.
    Anyway, can't wait to go over your build vids and see what I can learn!!

    I reckon keep the budget theme going and see what sort of bang for buck you can extract from the car. Like whatever the next cheapest mod is do that and get a dyno figure/quarter mile time, then the next cheapest mod do that and get a dyno figure/ quarter mile time and so on. IMO its probably the most interesting part of dicking around with vehicles seeing what tweaks can be made to get what result.

    You have done something a lot of people claim they will but never do and you did it for an excellent price. I was expecting it to spiral out to $5K+ but it didn't. That's a win for a performance mod that gave such an increase. Spend $5K in a workshop and you will not get that much of a gain. If you were ta ask me what you could do next I'd recommend chasing that 13 and doing those mods, where possible, yourself.
    For a future project I thought getting a $1/2,000 N/A turd. Polish it up so it's pretty. Then turbo it. Then................SELL IT! It would be interesting to see how you would do things different and how much you would get from the sale. Maybe a bit too MCM, maybe?
    Keep 'em coming Browney. Oh and sorry about the calendars :( I tried a new supplier. Won't do that again.

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      G'day Glen! Oh it could have VERY easily haha. Next stage only gets more pricey but doing it myself here I think we can get there eventually, excited for more to come on this car once I've enjoyed it as is for a bit.
      Love the idea of buying something cheap, tidying it up and enjoying it on the channel then moving it on to see if we can make a little money that way while experiencing another car - I have a habit of getting attached to cars though! Plus I hate selling them, too many stuff arounds followed by my paranoia that something out of my control will break 🤣. Still think we'll have a go at something like this one day though.
      And please don't stress about the calendar - the one in the shed is last years that I've removed the calendar part from so I can have the art up still with the current years right on the wall next to my editing computer. Plus it gets incredibly damp then hot as well in that shed so it had no hope really!

    Hey Browny, just wondering if you had considered using a manual boost t, or an eboost 2 or the like in order to control boost? Am in the process of getting parts together to turbo mine and am considering one of these options as factory turbo ecu and harnesses seem to be rare or very expensive (upto 2k!) Which puts them into buy a haltech territory. Just curious on your thoughts. Cheers

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I consider it all the time, more power! 🤣 Depends on what level you're going for I think. Even a manual boost tee to something like 7-10psi would probably not be terrible, then something like the eBoost you mention if you want better control and safety seems like a pretty good thing and I'm not really against them. I'm just a bit over adding more wires and complexity to the car and would love to have the control all in the one spot, especially for that extra safety for the ECU to be able to change the boost target if things are looking REALLY bad. Not the end of the world though, there's other safeties that could be used and if I can't source one for a reasonable price I will definitely consider something at around the eBoost 2 level maybe.
      Good luck with it all mate!

      Using factory parts he may not have to engineer as the BA has the option of a turbo Barra. Turbo swapping into models that didn't have turbo such as E- Series technically require engineering.

      Sorry mate, I’m pretty careful commenting on something like this being so close to legal advice - especially with things changing all the time and the huge variety of car/models/different components that could land myself or worse someone else in trouble. Unfortunately it’s often not black and white. May cover it more for my circumstances at least but for now here’s a good reference for a start, at least for Vic - bit.ly/3rjnenT

  • @1darryloflife

    I would keep away from any high stall converters as they hold power back then release it and from my experience a complete waste of time and money. In fact there are also safety issues especially when you need the car to perform.

      @maxrockatanksyOG ปีที่แล้ว

      As an NA motor?
      You would be looking at at least 10k- high comp pistons, cams, valves, manifolds, ecu tunes...Ideally, you would look at NOS to make up the power difference between NA & turbo.
      Raptor superchargers do blower kits for 6k ish (i had a Vortech V2 on my old BA XT police duty car that laid a lazy 330rwkw with the blower, cams and tuning, intercooler) and that was in 2005- blower kits were near on 15k back then. Add another 3k for gearbox mods.

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I've seen and heard in comments etc at the tuners I've used, Maxx Performance, they normally like to keep the factory BA XR6T bottom end limited to 300rwkw or just under on 98 due to the smaller rods largely. Obviously a little different to a NA motor but they have very similar rods so I'd say this is a fair guide of what could be safe...ish! I could be wrong on all that of course, and transmission may start getting a little unhappy before that anyway, not sure.

    Did you have any problems with insurance reason why I ask in the 80s when the turbo bit was just coming out before fuel injection I know now insurance company would touch you if it wasn't a factory install

    Doesn’t matter how much it cost mate. You made a really good quality detailed guide which no one knows how to do any more🤌🏼

      Thanks very much mate. I can see why, the extra work for the detail is pretty huge for very little pay off, or in some cases it can even hurt the video. I'm with you though, I wish there was more out there!

      Really enjoyed this series, Browney.
      Watched a few ep's more than once already. Have started collecting bits for my BA wagon... Thanks heaps for your vids.

      @@tomchalker8966 Sorry mate, I’m pretty careful commenting on something like this being so close to legal advice - especially with things changing all the time and the huge variety of car/models/different components that could land myself or worse someone else in trouble. Unfortunately it’s often not black and white. May cover it more for my circumstances at least but for now here’s a good reference for a start, at least for Vic - bit.ly/3rjnenT . Shouldn't be any difference as far as registration, engine number is the same and car is listed as Falcon Sedan regardless of induction type or badge - as far as I've found anyway.
