      Ruaidhri B Used to be in the Olympics but it was often entirely too hot and heat strokes and passing out was common so they removed it. Also some countries did not have a good courses.

    It blows my mind that Cross Country hasn't been in the Olympics since the 1920's. With all the stupid shit featured in the both the winter and summer Olympics, something as bad ass as Cross Country isn't included? Pull your heads out of your asses Olympic Committee. I love this event.

    • @ashrive
      @ashrive 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, especially the events where chubby people throws sticks and stones. They should scrap steeplechase in particular and replace it with cross country.

    • @htuy42

      but steeplechase isnt an event where chubby people chuck sticks and stones :P

  • @cicirunner

    Very exciting! Cross country is way more exciting than the track 10k. They should replace that event in the Olympics. It surprised me that some of the guys that got lapped were even in the race. The winners did 12k in just under 35 minutes while some of the slower runners had not even finished 10k yet.

    • @arontesfay2520
      @arontesfay2520 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** You may site a study but the problem is that all top distance runners naturally use a forefoot strike so there is probably something to it in regards to form.

    • @iitsCrush
      @iitsCrush 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      While racing in spikes you will naturally not heel strike

    • @oducks5820
      @oducks5820 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Thats because they are running so fast they naturally run on their forefoot. Even natural heel strikers will run on their forefoot at that speed.

    Just wondering how well does this sort of cardio transfer to other sports in which some form of sprinting/anaerobic exercise is involved?
    I read from a guy online that he used to do alright in long distances but would fatigue after 5 minutes in basketball.
    And basketball doesn't require much sprinting.

    • @nicknjegac
      @nicknjegac 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheGreatslyfer Different people have different muscle fibre types, think Usain Bolt vs a marathoner. Usain Bolt has fast twitch muscle fibers, meaning he is able to exert a high amount of power of a short amount of time. A marathoner on the other hand has slow twitch fibers, meaning he can exert a lower amount of power but of a lot longer period of time. In the end, Bolt wouldn't be able to run as fast as the marathon in a marathon and vice-versa. You think about a basketball athlete, what are they doing a lot of the time? Explosive movements: short runs up and down the court, and powerful, explosive passes. Cardio and aerobic fitness is still extremely important but when it comes to specific sports like basketball, which involve short amounts of time on the court, your muscle type will help you out no end. Hope this helps

    • @TheGreatslyfer
      @TheGreatslyfer 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick Njegac So does this mean I can only be explosive or have good endurance?

    • @nicknjegac
      @nicknjegac 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +TheGreatslyfer that's all of it in a nutshell. Our muscle fibres will dictate what we are good at in the end, so you could be better at endurance sports or you could be better suited to a sport like basketball, but that doesn't mean you should give something up because proper train can still help you out a lot with that. Besides, aerobic capacity is still extremely important in basketball, and power can still be important is endurance to surge or sprint

    • @TheGreatslyfer
      @TheGreatslyfer 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick Njegac So practically increasing my VO2 is good for those sports.
      Also I used to jog frequently for about like 20 minutes 3 times a week when I was younger, but I felt like it didn't affect my endurance in football.
      I could sprint alright, but my cardio was shit, and others probably didnt jog like I did

  • @surubaid1
