Can't like this video enough. Did this 2 years ago with my wife in our 4R. Same time of year, same stops, same light coming directly into the sun up hogback, even camped in Murphy B. Its like watching our trip. Incredible place.
I did the whole 100 mile of White Rim trail in May and it was epic! Lost part of my front bumper attachment and front license while water crossing, but it was worth it.
I did the white rim on a mountain bike. It was the hardest and most incredible thing I’ve done in my life. Hard to convey the beauty, the vastness and grandeur of the landscape you experience on that trail. Camping 50 miles in was so peaceful and grounding. You realize that what you see around you took 200 million years to create and our time in this planet is just a micro second in the grand scheme of things. That is humbling in and of itself. We should appreciate what has been provided for us on our short journey in this world and protect it.
I enjoyed white rim trail 7 years ago with a 1984 Subaru Turbo wagon. I plan to do it again soon with my 1988 Suzuki Samurai. Your video gave me more motivation.
I had the good fortune of acquiring permits for White Rim earlier this month. It's one of the most enjoyable overland routes I've ever done. 10/10 would do again.
My first time doing White Rim, I solo mt biked it in a day. Always wanted to come back and take my time on it. That time came a few years back and took 4 days to ride it. Next time around, I'll take my rig. Great video as always, Tyler. Thank you.
Thank you, Tyler! We were just there last month and though we had the permit we couldn’t do the entire trail due to heavy rains. But we did get to camp in the park and are already planning a return expedition next year! Your video is one of the best I’ve ever seen of this trail, well done.
I’m glad you were able to finally do this trail. I did it alone in July of 2021. I spent three days and two nights there. It’s one of my most memorable trips I’ve taken to date. Great video! Your Trailhunter has been officially broken in. 🍻
Did this trail a few years ago, definitely one of those you'll never forget. We had some snow on the last night and the switchbacks getting out were scary as hell. Beautiful shots and great video as always!

Part two looks fun. I got stuck in quicksand at Great Dunes once - looks like you get to have a similar 'adventure' digging someone out ;) Although from experience I think the suction on mud is a bit less than quicksand, so maybe it will not be as bad as it looks from the teaser at the end... ;) Took a winch + a full (F150 raptor) and a midsize truck to drag my Ranger out of quicksand. No bueno.
@IndependenceOverland I finally got my Trailhunter, and you talkede out of the long bed. Picked it up in black. I love it so far. Keep me posted when you're coming out to California! We got to hit some trails. I've got some cool camp spots out here.
@@Jareddonvito So its on all the time now I believe. You now have a button you can turn it off, its the little icon with the curvy lines behind it. The MTS modes are pretty much a fancier version of ATRAC.
@IndependenceOverland I think the button you mentioned may be traction control, if it's the button on the left side of the steering wheel, on that panel. I noticed that symbol was flashing on the dash when I lost traction in loose dirt. When I clicked it to turn it off, traction control wouldn't kick on and it would just spend the tires. I think you may be right about it being on all the time (when in 4 lo).
White Rim is a fun and easy trail in Canyonlands NP for sure. I recommend checking out Maze Overlook and doing the hike to the Harvest Scene if you haven't yet. Adds just a tad more of that ultra remote isolation you start to feel with White Rim.
Air compressor is getting replaced under warranty, and my tailgate is a little loose. I saw on the forums that a gasket is a little too thick and gets gummed up. My tailgate is coming off soon anyway so whatever. But I do want my compressor back!
I love the White Rim Trail, did it last year and the year before in my 19 Off Road Tacoma. It was my first overlanding trip and will always be one of my favorites. I will say, you did miss the best view, White Crack campsite has an incredible overlook of the confluence of the Green and Colorado, you see so much, feel so small, and the quiet you experience is incredible and the sunset there is impeccable. I've got to ask though, where did you camp the night before? That seemed like a really sweet spot outside Island in the Sky.
why was it so hard to drive white rim? I drove it on my last trip there, just had a day pass for Canyonlands and drove it in a day. Started at 7am, got off the trail at 8pm. It was epic!
Worth clarifying that a pass to camp on the trail is very difficult to obtain but you can walk right up to the ranger station and get a day pass. I thought it was pretty easy to finish in a day but I had already driven multiple states.

@ man they look sooooo good. If that LC ever makes it to market I may be buying yet another truck 😆. Hopefully it takes a while if it does because this Tacoma is about to eat my money up.
Just did this late October.. I can assure Lathrop is not a 'green' trail. Maybe at one time it was, but not late October of 2024. This was after pretty good rain events, so maybe I was in the aftermath of that. To compare, there were sections of Lathrop right out of the gate that were quite a bit more sketchy than Hardscrabble Hill, and Hardscrabble is puckery.
My dude, love your setup. Very very similar to my Ranger setup. Same or similar Alu Cab tent, same bed rack idea, similar gadgets. I even have an Outin for that sweet sweet kick in the balls when I need caffeine. I appreciate your good taste in gear ;) This trail looks rad. I have done canyonlands and Schaeffers but never this whole trail.
The tent will be going back to my Fj in the next few weeks, and the truck will be getting the Alucab Modcap this winter 🤩. Ready to have a nice little heated/bug free space. My buddy has a 2019 Ranger, and that truck is very impressive. It’s a big part of why I was actually excited to own a “little” turbo charged truck.
It is possible to get a day pass for the White Rim Trail for the day or a day or two ahead of time. Just get to the visitor center early. Also, the camping permits are taken 6 months ahead of time, but you can check for cancellations. I was there with a friend in September, good timing, we were able to get either. We were heading to the San Rafael Swell afterwards, so we just opted for the day pass. As for Lathrop Canyon trail, I'm not sure why On X gave it a green rating. It was the most difficult part of the White Rim that we travelled, although we didn't go all the way out to the Green River. Thanks for the video! It brought back good memories.
I will have to go check that out sometime, since it isnt too far in. It would be a fun stop at the river for the day or something like that. Thank you for letting me know!
The park ranger I spoke with offered to write up day passes for us 3 days out, and offered the cancelled camping pass 4 days out. He may have not been sticking to regulations though, so your mileage may vary.
I have looked into various flatbed setups, but the main thing is I want a little camper on the back. The Australian style ute setups dont allow for that. Theres one company out of Germany that does it, but its like 60k for just the flatbed and canopy 😬. I have the bed rack and tent on just so I could get out and use the truck for the season, but by Spring it will be fully sealed off and dust proof. I have something cool in the works!
Tyler, Getting a TH.. wondering your thoughts of TH rims vs Method rims.. Thinking of changing rims and also Falken AT4W tires. But Method doesnt have R18 rims.. Thoughts?
17s bolt right up! Go for it man! The TH wheels will hit rocks, the spoke design protrudes and invites rock. If you dont bash your OEM wheels like I did, you can sell for them a pretty penny to go toward the Methods as well. I already scratched my Methods as well, but not nearly as bad and I was doing actual off roading when it happened. I vot for after market wheels. +35mm off set will put them perfect inside the fender, +25 will poke them out just a little.
Great video, even without the drones the videography was very well done. 👍 I’m sure it took a lot of work but came out great. Do you have an upload schedule or know when the next part is going to come out?
I work so much, that its hard to get these out on a really consistent schedule. And if I try to hold myself to a schedule, it gets stressful and corners get cut. These videos are my favorite to edit, so I give them all the time they need. I should be just a week or two before the next one though. Fall/Winter is typically when I start rolling these types of videos out. I finally get to be at home on the weekends, and staring at my computer all day! haha. Thanks for watching!
Spectacular Views/Scenes!!! Your adventures alway make me want to be with you … thanks for sharing these experiences with us!!! Curious to know approximately how many hours of footage you actually shoot vs what we get to see? Wondering to know so I know how many SD Cards I might have to buy, lol 😂 !!! I’m sure it’s a lot.
This one was about 350gb of footage total. I don’t waste much space because I know what I use and won’t use so I’m efficient to some extent.my clips are rarely longer than a minute each, and I get 300-400 clips typically. This was probably 4 hours of total footage, and I’ll get 45-55 minutes of total watch time out of it. On a week or 2 week trip I get into the terabyte range. 😁 I’ll be doing a few videos on some of that kind of stuff soon.
It’s a great trail. I’ve been to Canyonlands 5 times. Of the 63 Nationalparks, I’ve been to 53. Canyonlands is my favourite. Unless it’s changed in the last 2 years, I think you got your permit info wrong. You need a permit to camp along the trail, and that’s difficult to get. You can do the trail in one day without camping with no permit. All you need is to chat with a ranger and have a “don’t be a dumbass” and a vehicle check conversation.
No - 17x veteran of the WRR here. I’ve done it on bikes unsupported and over a dozen times with sag wagons. You definitely need a Backcountry Day Permit to do a day trip. The NPS maintains strict control on the number of people / vehicles in the back country. There is a sign at the Potash Rd junction, “Permits Only Beyond This Point”. Be warned, if you drive it in a day, it’s usually 8-11 hours of drive time under good conditions. If the Ranger allowed you to go without a formal permit, I’m certain they probably did the paperwork for you.
Yeah, most of the national parks don't allow dogs in the back country. We had some really long days on this trip though, it would have been hard on her anyway.
For camping 2 weeks in advance? Not in our experience, it literally sells out for the season within like 30 minutes. Thats why we couldnt get a second group of trucks, it sold out as we were planning all of this, and we did it 3 months in advance. I haven't tried every year, I also wasn't staring at my computer for 10 years straight, there is more in the world than this trail so it was just when we tried, we couldn't seem to get a permit. The point is I really wanted to do this 10 years ago, and life happened and it took 10 years to finally do it.
Haha I’m glad someone did. I tried for like 30 minutes to catch that little dude on camera. He was just lapping up drops off water from the tailgate, and in the middle of the desert I couldn’t deny him of it.
Nope, National Parks have new rules in the past few years. You can get some huge fines for filming in them now. And that includes TH-cams, Tiktokers, etc.
This video is why I am a Patreon supporter of you, Tyler! You need to make sure that you note which pictures your lovely wife Natalya has contributed! She has such a great eye through the lens of a camera!
Every photo in this video was hers, aside from the star shots. I like doing timelapse’s, but still photos I just am not as good at. Natalia is next level!
I have had a 2010 FJ Cruiser since my parents bought it for me brand new when I got my license at 16 lol, so I always love seeing them on these adventure videos! 😊
I am so tired of watching people make coffee from their tailgates. Like hipsters with 4x4's roaming in huge packs of overloaded trucks trying to not scratch their paint. This content is overdone.

I’m confused how it took so long to get a permit? You can go on the website and generally get one one or two weeks in advance. Almost always.
Did anyone else catch the mouse in the back of the bed at the 21:14 mark?
Haha I’m glad someone did. I tried for like 30 minutes to catch that little dude on camera. He was just lapping up drops off water from the tailgate, and in the middle of the desert I couldn’t deny him of it.
permit to film?!?! I'm assuming that's just for the drone...
Nope, National Parks have new rules in the past few years. You can get some huge fines for filming in them now. And that includes TH-cams, Tiktokers, etc.
@@IndependenceOverland seems just so unfair considering it's national property, it's like freedom to record a public place is banned?!?
Imagine the fossils you could potentially find ... if you knew how and what to look for ... I don't. Ha ha
I bet there are some crazy fossils in the stone….
I have had a 2010 FJ Cruiser since my parents bought it for me brand new when I got my license at 16 lol, so I always love seeing them on these adventure videos! 😊
That regular cab Taco is a beaut.
That little 4 banger has done big things!
I am so tired of watching people make coffee from their tailgates. Like hipsters with 4x4's roaming in huge packs of overloaded trucks trying to not scratch their paint. This content is overdone.
Why are you watching it then?
Crazy that all it takes is 70k$ to drive roads like that!!! A stock 90s honda would never make it 😂😂
Sorry about inflation, make sure to vote next week 😉
The trail is more fun in 2wd, especially when you tell people you got white crack

The only advertisement was the OnX offroad plug. What are you talking about?
female driver sketchy
😂 all jokes aside, she has a fair bit of off road driving experience!
I'll never be able to go there, it's so great being able to experience it thru you folks. THANKS for sharing!!!
Why? You don't have a car?
LOL it's takin him 10 years and he still was denied a permit. I'll never apply for one. So I know I'll never get to go on that stretch.
You are most certainly welcome, thank you for taking the time to check it out! The next episode gets a little more exciting!
epic view..
