  • If we want to be good people and live meaningful and fulfilling lives, why do we do so many do things that we regret? In his poignant and compelling TEDx Talk, mindfulness teacher John Bruna, author of the ‘Wisdom of a Meaningful Life’, presents a unique perspective on free will, offering specific tools to develop more free will and choice in your life.
John Bruna, author of The Wisdom of a Meaningful Life, is counselor, educator, mindfulness and Dharma teacher. With humble and challenging beginnings, he grew up in a low-income environment, surrounded by drugs, alcohol, and violence. In 1984, at the age of 22, John began a spiritual journey that changed the course of his life. As a result of that journey, John has been able to turn his experiences of being a dishwasher, auto mechanic, corporate manager, graduate student, school teacher and Buddhist monk into insights on how to live productively, creatively, and collaboratively. Having transformed his own life, John has devoted his life to helping others improve theirs. He was a beloved teacher at Jordan High School in Long Beach and is now the co-founder of the Mindful Life Program and director of the Way of Compassion Foundation
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I believe in watching a video in a timely manner, I suffer from addiction. Watched it before only to finish halfway, now my sponsor shared this and it's making more sense.

Over years spent working with John I have learned to approach life with more awareness and compassion. Recognizing mistakes made in the past do not have to rule my choices today and to live each day mindfully. This has made all the difference. Thanks John for your authenticity and compassion for others! It has helped spread positive changes in my life!!

John's teachings are so real and so wise. He speaks simply with truth and equanimity. He is like a teacher from another era, one I imagine was full of such wise ones. His book and website are very worthwhile, too. I encourage you to follow up on this talk.

Yes the belief we already have free will is very bad. That's a good message. And we can change and often it's better to be mindful. But still free will is an illusion.

I think this is a really cool way of looking at the idea of free will, but having ADHD makes me want to pretend I didn't hear it
