    I hate that everyone keeps getting rid of buttons and knobs to replace them with touch screens. Buttons allow me to keep my eyes on the road while making adjustments.

    I actually love the paddles being mounted on the column. It allows for them to be bigger, better designed and with a nicer mechanical feel. Also, I like that no matter how out of shape I get in fast switch corners, I always know which paddle is up and which is down.

That’s why it was the very first V8 front engined Ferrari ever produced. Has you probably know, the Roma is built on top of a California platform. The Alfieri probably will never see the Sun light.

    Interesting point about the steering wheel and the paddle shifters. The best option imo is to have paddle shifters on the steering wheel along with a chunky gear lever in the centre, similar to what Porsche had with the 991 generation 911, which is quite helpful in the way that you can use the gear lever to change gears while doing a sharp turn instead of using the paddles which switch places while turning, although you've to take one of your hands of the steering wheel to do that.

    Huge pedals on the column for me, but if they are large enough and feel tactile enough either is acceptable. I’m used to driving a Giulia and stelvio QV for the past 2 years and I love the column shifters on them, which are basically identical to Ferrari. I really dislike small plastic shift paddles. If you put them on the column then by default they will always be large enough by necessity of needing to reach them. Cars with wheel mounted shifters tend to cheap out on them more often.

    • @_n-Dee_
      @_n-Dee_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly!
      When you shift gears it all happens before the corner!
      Therefor you always have your hands on the wheel even with colomn mounted shifters.
      Shifters on the wheel irritates when you turn the wheel and get accidentally on the shifter and dont know for seconds where is up and where down to shift.

    21:15 Column paddles reduces the margin of error during cornering. Steering mounted can make the driver loose sense of which paddle does what and which position they're currently in while cornering, as opposed to column mounted which makes the movement more regular and automatic, so drivers don't have to think about it. Vast majority of race cars use column even tough they only have 540 degree steering rotation.

    Paddles mounted on the column is the best way, because the paddles always there where you expecting them. And in a corner no real good driver shifts, brakes or accelerates. You slow down before the corner to the right speed and when you left the corner and the steering is straight again you can accelerate, so you are always fast and you have always the maximum of traction.
    As much as I like modern cockpits of cars, this Ferrari has not a very good balance between buttons and touchscreen. In this case I like the concept of Gordon Murrays T.50 much more; that's infotainment system doesn't age so quick as the on of the Roma.

  • @TT-rn4tt

    Because you always shift gears before and after the corner!
    Racedrivers do this so even we have learn it in the school of driving license.
    Therefor you always keep your hands on the wheel in corners. Shifters on the wheel irritates when you turn the wheel and get accidentally on the shifter and dont know for seconds where is up and where down to shift.
