You can skip the Journal step by clicking on the white description text on the quest bar! Brings up your map to the exact place you have to go! Great tip for the new players, Talli! Especially folks migrating from WoW where our only teleports were Hearthstones (Return) or Warlock/Dungeon summoning stones that you needed multiple people to use. And they brought you to the stone without you needing to look at the map so long as someone was already there to facilitate the Summoning. When I first played, I was super confused about Aetherite travel and it took me a while to figure out some of its nuances!
I think an important tip for new players is knowing that leveling dungeons, or those with ones digits between 1-9, always give you a piece of gear for your selected class/job upon completion; this includes weapons. So even if you don’t get anything during the run, you will ultimately receive something to boost your stats and item level afterwards. So, there’s merit to running a new leveling dungeon several times to become appropriately geared before continuing with the story or content.
You'll probably read my other comment, but definitely just pointing out the teleportation MENU itself. I didn't really know what it was for a long time and spent a loooong time using the "long way" to get to places like the gold saucer, wolf's den, and doman enclave.
From any of the starter cities you can take the airship to Gold Saucer for Free; and then to Ul'dah for free! I used this trick a lot as a sprout (and even today) to get to Ul'dah without spending any gil!
Bonus tip to tack onto this: if the aetheryte is buried under a bunch of side quests you haven’t gotten to yet, if you hold Ctrl it will bring it to the front
Clicking on the blue text under the quest name also immediately pulls up the location on the map, so it's really only a 2 click process. Likewise, to those who're in post-ARR content, completing your hunting logs for your Grand Company grants you Allied Seals that can be used to purchase Aetheryte Tickets which provide you a free teleport.
A tip for my fellow Sprouts: Make use of your Favored and Free Destinations! If you find yourself traveling to the same location more than 3 or 4 times, take a few seconds to walk up to the Aetheryte Crystal and set it as a Favored Destination. It will cut your Gil cost in half to teleport there from then onwards! You can only designate 3 locations at a time as Favored, but you can swap them out later if you find yourself using another location more frequently. I like to have them set for locations that are centralized in each of the 3 starting areas: Costa del Sol in La Noscea, Black Brush Station in Thanalan, and Bentbranch Meadows in The Black Shroud. Early on, my La Noscea Favored Destination was Aleport due to how often I found myself having to go there. However as the MSQ progressed, Aleport became less common and Costa del Sol saw much more frequent use on my teleport screen. I'm positive as I go further into the Main Story, my list of Favored Destinations will change again, but I'm honestly looking forward to it. As for your one Free Destination, I highly recommend setting The Golden Saucer as yours. Not only is it likely to be a frequent (i.e. daily) destination, but by making a free teleport to GS, you can cut the cost of any subsequent teleports to the southern portion of Thanalan since you'll already be closer than you may have been beforehand. Finally, don't hesitate to set your Home location for your Return ability as often as you need to! If you're working mainly on leveling your Goldsmithing, then set your Home to Ul'dah. Fishing? Set it to Limsa Lominsa. Botany? Well, New Gridania is only a few clicks away from being your new Home! While Gil is pretty easy to come by in Final Fantasy 14, early on it might not always feel that way. So by keeping up with your Favored, Free, and Home Destinations, you can end up saving yourself quite a bit of money that you can use towards other efforts later on. Hope this helps!
So I was testing something in the open world the other day and I died. Apparently it had been so long since I had died out in the world that my return point was set to Horizon from 'Pray Return' lol... clearly I don't utilize it enough. >
For anyone curious for how this works on controller: On controller, you can do this by hitting the button that cycles through windows/hud elements (Select on PS3, Back on 360, Options on PS4, etc) to navigate to the quest list (takes like one second) to pull up the map the quest is in, and then moving the cursor over and select it that way. It does take ever so slightly longer due to the sticks being less precise than the mouse, but still saves time pulling up the teleport menu (especially if you don't know EXACTLY where it is, which doing this shows you ANYWAYS.
My Eorzean travel tip is a really common one that people often overlook. Favourite the Gold Saucer, while this does make it a two stop to get to all the cities over going directly there having the Gold Saucer as your favourite destination means you never miss out on your Cactpot, Mini Cactpot, and Gate events, and seeing as many of the collaborations involve going to the Gold Saucer this means you don't miss out. I can't tell you how many thousands of MGP I have earned just by teleporting to the Gold Saucer and taking an Airship to the city-states, seems like ever time I am there a GATE is up.
The use of this is also good when playing a Gathering job. You can click on map from the gathering menu for the item and then click on the closest point
The first thing that I always do is run about the map and fill it out if it isn't one of the ones that does so automatically!! That, AND getting the aether currents. That is... something I should not have left to do later. It's so sweet to do these videos, though!! I'm glad to help sprouts!! ^^
Same! I definitely procrastinate on my aether currents though XD I usually get so excited for MSQ I don't do all the side quests til afterwards, so I'll be done with the expansion and still not able to fly in certain zones XD
@@EverydayEorzean Something that I PROBABLY shouldn't have splurged on so much was the Fenrir bike off of the Mog Station? But it was really helpful!! It makes you go the fastest speed you can in a zone, but it went on sale recently so I got it for my friends as well!! We're a motorcycle gang! >:)
This is bizarre because I literally never used the teleport spell to use aetherytes until late in Stormblood when I couldn't figure out how to get to the Doman Enclave aetheryte through the map XD
If you need to teleport to stormblood areas, it's a good idea to teleport to your FC's house (if your FC has one), and then teleport to to the place you want. You'll save a few hundred gils at least.
This is actually an awesome tip for the MSQ, saving a bunch of time and convenience, as the back and forth travel across vast distances gets very tedious.
This is such a good tip! Especially when the quest takes you to a place that is mildly obscure, you can just open up the map and find the nearest Aetheryte!
Bonus tip to save some gil, if you are in a major city use the crystals to teleport to the gate closest to where you want to teleport to. It can save you a tidy amount of gil, even if it takes a little longer with the screen loading times. I used this trick a lot for the Heavensward expansion when I had to travel to Coerthas (closest capital is Gridania) or Mor Dhona (Ul'dah) from somewhere else in Eorzea. For example: teleporting to Foundation. I would travel to Gridania (either with return/free teleport or by airship), teleport to the yellow serpent gate and then teleport to Foundation. I have found it can save me up to 100-200+ gil using this teleport trick compared to one teleport.
I always use the map to teleport, lol. It's helped me learn where everything is. Now, if you asked me the names of the places to teleport to, that would be different >.>
My Eorzean Tip? Know the terrain. Is there a higher level area between you and your destination? Take time to scout a bit, watch other players and monsters maneuver when you see a pattern to the monster(s) use timing to move yourself passed them. Remember that your less likely to be attacked as you move behind someone then in front of them. Remember to sprint.
Oh my goodness I can't tell you how many times I've been hunting Aether Currents and think I'm sooooooooo close - and then realize I'm about 3 levels too low XD
@@EverydayEorzean as a bonus , for anyone who hasn't hit 50 yet; when you hit 50 and get through the ARR MSQ, you get to FLY! and FLY EVERYWHERE! I've never loved flying before in a game in my life.
I actually found this out on accident a couple weeks ago. I'd gone all the way through Heavensward without knowing this... I felt like a total dunce when it figured it out, lol
I figured this one out pretty early on in the game, but I swear it took me at least 6 months before I realized what the teleportation menu was. I fr used to teleport using the map EVERY time until I realized I could get to places more easily via the TP menu. I even used to go to Gridania and use the airship to get to the golden saucer because I didn't know about the teleportation menu. In stormblood I FLEW all the way to the boat guy to get to the Doman Enclave. I swear I had at least one level 80 by the time I realized the teleportation menu was a thing and a very useful thing at that. I hope you have a video on that one LOL.
@@EverydayEorzean How about something to do with the different chat channels. In WoW the main ones were General Chat: which was zone wide, Yell: which covered some distance and was red in color, Trade chat: which spanned all major cities, Say: which was white and localized to the immediate area, Guild chat: which was a slightly bright yet rich green color and Whisper: which was a type of purple color.
Honestly my biggest tip that I didn't realize--Apparently you can get to the Gold Saucer for FREE from like, any Airship Landing in Eorzea? So if you're like me and going Mega Frugal to save up for stuff, have Limsa as your home destination, and go to Ul'dah through the Golden Saucer. Once you're at least lvl 30 something you can do the ride from Ul'dah to Gridania on foot, so technically you won't have to spend a single gil to get to anywhere in ARR!
You can fly to the Gold Saucer for free, from any of the main three Eorzean city-states. However, Ul'dah is the only one you fly to for free *FROM* the Gold Saucer. Therefore, if you are either in Gridania or Limsa Lominsa, and you want to go to Ul'dah: just go to the Gold Saucer first. Grab your daily Mini Cactpot, run a GATE if one is available, and then take the airship to Ul'dah. Why pay, if you don't have to?
If it's teleporting tips.. use the 3 main cities as your favored locations. You'll use them a lot. I kinda prefer Ul'dah as my free location, as I frequent the Gold Saucer quite often too :) You get the free location only if you set up the one-time-password, but hey, bonus security, and a free teleport? I'm all for that.
I did know this as I teleport a lot! One thing odd though, as I work through the post Stormblood, pre-Shadowbringers quest line, the quest map won't show me the Doman enclave to TP too, it shows me the zone outside (Yanxia I think), and then puts the MSQ icon on the boat to the enclave. I normally use the map tip here all the time, same with gathering too as it works in those maps as well, but the Doman Enclave is different for some reason.
The only area this doesn’t work for is the dravanian hinterlands, since for some reason its the only zone in the game without an aetheryte, you have to teleport to Idyllshire and then walk out into the zone instead. You can click to Idyllshire from the dravanian hinterlands map but it does feel clunky.
