I've been using this fire pit for 4 months now. Not going back to Firewood. Easy to haul in the truck camper, no campfire smell or expensive Firewood you need to buy/haul. Very easy to store. 20lbs propane tank on low lasts about 15+ hours. For a 4+ day trip, I bring 2 tanks.
Great insight, I own the 21inch fire bowl but realized the benefits of a smaller form factor when transporting and and storing.
Also it seems to put out just as much heat....hopefully it has an optional carry case as well.
I have the round one and love it. I wish this one had been available. The square shape would be much more efficient for packing in my trailer.

@@socalexpeditions I ended up getting this one over the summer. I still have the round one, but you’re right the square shape takes up a lot less space and you can stack on top.

It's probably not really needed because of the built in heat shield between the burner and the ground, but I am tempted to routinely place it on a small folded welding blanket or fire blanket underneath to prevent any accidental contact of debris from the ground with the flames. I might be overly cautious but when I ran it upside down on my first burn by accident I created burned ground. This shouldn't be an issue with it right side up. It's too easy to start a forest fire in the right conditions through some outlier circumstance light my first burn. I noticed your hesitation when the burner didn't light right away. That elapsed time maybe a second or two and hesitation allowed propane to build up a bit before it "caught". Wise to minimize this possibility so as not to ignite larger quantities of propane or singe your eyebrows. I know I'm going to enjoy my cube. My first burn compromised my regulator from working and I had very good customer service when they shipped my new regulator to me. It ran perfectly with the new regulator, whereas the old reg was not supplying any gas to the appliance.
As you indicated, best to shut it off at the bottle first, then the appliance to as to void the hose.

I just bought one of these 14” Firecubes and I'm wondering if you can use it to cook. I was thinking of putting a wire mesh grill on top and then use pots/pans to cook. I'm not sure if it gets hot enough to cook though. And what about cooking steaks? Just trying to see if it's more versatile than just a fire pit.
Some people say that using a firepit to cook is very inefficient use of your propane, but if you are going to set it up because it's cold...you could double dip for cooking maybe using aluminum packets or a wire mesh to slowly heat up water to do the dishes later.

My buddy has one of these and I asked him about that and he brought up a good point. If using a mesh grill, make sure you have somewhere for the grease to go or you're going to make a big mess on your lava rocks.
The one thing annoying is the sound of the propane.
Music or conversation will drown that sound out, it's relatively quiet.
Please observe that this video has the fire cube the correct side UP. My first burn I ran it upside down, and it survived. It ran wierdly and I was disappointed. Then I saw this...

Any idea how many hrs that tank will last on full flame? Looks like a great product!
According to the BTU calculator, a 6lb propane tank on full heat will last 2.23 hours. A 20lb tank on full heat will last 7.45 hours. This calculation is at 58,000 BTU's. For comparison, if the burner is set to halfway (~29,000 BTU's), a 20lb tank would last 14.89 hours. Hope that helps you!
@@OverlandOrange There is no way a magnet could hold the weight. I learned if you use your thumb, and pull the strap down, its very easy.
@@OverlandOrange They wont swing back out of the slots. Once they’re hooked in they are solid
7.5hrs isn't very much on long winter nights. I still like this firepit but I also like my solostove.
@@efromhb I agree its not long at all. It's just enough for one or two people who sit out for a few hours a night.
