Not a knock on King's abilities, but it's clear that he getting some help with his falsettos from the backing female singer who the camera focuses on several times in the video. Age effects the vocal cords in men. The cartilage in the larynx get's stringier and dryer which effects the high head voice as men age. King was also a smoker before his triple bypass surgery so it's safe to assume that he lost some of his ability to sing high. It happens to all men. Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, even the great Ronnie James Dio and Lemmy Kilmister's voice was effected by age and is evident when you listen to old albums with there more current albums.

@@melovestits2 It really sounds like it's mostly King. I can hear the other singer (which I think is his wife but I'm not sure) low in the mix. A good example is when King sings "Where no one dares to go" at 1:44 right after singing that high note of "The Mansion". He's definitely hitting that high note then you can hear the other singer holding the note longer.
Since this is from a DVD it's fair to suspect there's some vocal fuckery going on but I saw the band during this tour and King sounded really good, almost as good as this DVD version. King also sounds really good on the various bootlegs from this tour that are floating around on TH-cam.
King Diamond is real heavy metal.
It's just 10/10 in every way

I found my old Abigail cassette which was chewed up in the tape deck circa 1992, I kept it in hopes I could fix it. But the tape deck eventually broke!

@Mark 13 look up any raw live videos starting from 2012. He sounds excellent live. I'm sure there's a bit of cleaning up going on for the DVD, but they're not adding anything he can't do live.

This was the first King Diamond song I heard years ago, I heard it playing, and I stopped in my tracks and went to where I heard it and just sat and listened. I was awe struck. From every musician in the band as well.

Going into this I was nervous that age would finally catch up to the great King Diamond, but holy shit could that be furthest from the truth. He sounded absolutely phenomenal here.
At first I didn't dare to listen because I thought he wouldn't hit the notes anymore... I made a huge mistake
I'm happy to say that I saw KD for the first time on this tour in Detroit in Nov 2015. Outstanding.
Well he is singing maybe 1/2 an octave lower when he does his high wails. But other than that like you said, phenominal

Okay confession time. I don't really know much at all about this band, just a gap in my metal knowledge which otherwise is pretty solid. But this clip makes it clear that I need to get into this ASAP.

I'm almost jealous of the wonderful journey of discovery you are about to embark upon. The vast library of King Diamond and Merciful Fate is full of memorable and iconic songs, each one a new delight and world of wonderment to discover.
Don't feel bad, man; back in the early 80s, when I was discovering metal for the first time, I couldn't get into Mercyful Fate at all because I couldn't get past the vocals! I recently, as a fan of King's solo material, finally sat down and listened to "Melissa" and "Don't Break The Oath" back to back and kicked myself for being such a dumb ass back in the day, because those albums are both brilliant and deserving of the accolades. Definitely check those out as well!
A band called Attic plays King Diamond/Merciful Fate inspired music with Black Metal lyrical concepts. They are incredible and King Diamond himself has said they are great

This is simply a masterpiece. Incredible track with multiple and complex tempo shifts, which makes it very hard to play live. But King Diamond just nails it to perfection. One of the best heavy metal tracks of all time.
After listening to them for the past 20 years of my existence, I'm still trying to find a bad song/riff.
No lucky at all and all the luck that's possible together.
Since King quit smoking and is in much better health, he has gained a lot more of his former range and control on his voice. Look and listen at a live video of a MF or KD show from the late 90s. He struggled with a lot of material at that point, not anymore!
