One of the greatest metal "concept" albums in the history of music. Around the age of 24 I remember playing nearly this entire album with a bunch of other musicians from New York. Of course, we had no singer. Those who said they could do it usually just did some horrible falsetto that sounded more like Edith Bunker than King, but it was still just as fun because all these riffs and beats are great!! And it still holds up today, just like all great music..
It was tough! Especially at 24. I was lucky because the other guitarist, drummer and bassist were quite good and we worked closely together to try to figure everything out as correct as possible. There were a couple of solos we didn't play note for note, but it was all close enough that nobody ever noticed. I think my most favorite song to play was "the black horsemen" with that beautiful twelve string intro, and that riff behind when king sings "The pain of labor was so strong that Miriam died! Her final seeing was a pair of yellow eyes!" And also the two guitars behind "Now we're finally alone, Miriam. Abigail is here to stay..." Great utilization of two guitarists. Great orchestration. Great vocal and guitar harmonies. It still holds up all these years later.. And it was a fantastic learning experience for me. I know some people don't care for his voice but it's heavy metal horror opera!! And I think kings voice couldn't be more perfect for what they were creating. I can't hear anyone else singing these tracks, just like I can't imagine anyone but Geddy singing for Rush.
Wow.....miky dee on his own Best performance, great album and what a wonderfulf guitar player....Mr. Andy La Roque, The Best, cheers to allá from Monterrey México

My step daughter named her daughter Abigail three months into her pregnancy. The kid never made it. She had to deliver her dead. We all had a funeral at the hospital. The staff at the hospital was more than charitable and even a few of the nurses cried. I cant imagine what its like to carry your dead child inside you or the grief she felt having done so. Fucked up. Every time I play this album for a brief moment I wonder if her spirit is with her mom.
@@LassetUnsSpielen What I said actually happened, it just so happens that she was named Abigail. I didnt know the name till after the fact. Her father has her name and year of death tattooed on his wrist.
And you didn't listen to Kings holiday 12 inch "No presents for Christmas". Hahaha.. the only other holiday related track I can recall is Halloween on Fatal Portrait. All joking aside, Abigail is a masterpiece.. the story, the riffs, the beats, the synths, and Kings lush vocal harmonies make for a Hell of a listening experience
I remember waiting for this to come out, it came out 2 days before my 19th birthday. I can still recall that first listening and being blown away. it was a huge step up from Fatal Portrait. The guitar playing is amazing and the story went full album, and KD was in his prime! What a time to be alive!
Seeing him tomorrow in St Louis so of course here I am re-listening to these masterpieces back to back till the show! Long Live The King! I've seen Primus, Maiden, Priest, and countless others but I can already feel that this will trump them all.
This was my first taste of King Diamond. They used to have metal shows at this club "Pulse" every couple weeks in the summer. SO I would go to every one. Had never heard of King DIamnd. Was totally blown away with the show. Got a pick from Andy(managed to get one from him on Them and COnsipiracy as well). Hooked ever since.
Holy shit the amount of soloing and musicality is incredible. Awesome album, really, and very interesting comparatively what black metal was back then and is now.
Absolutely amazing. I come back to this album every few years. Incredible talent. Timeless - just gets better and better. I'm an old man now - there's nothing better than KD / MF
Them/Conspiracy as they are the same story for me. But Abigail is almost as brilliant. King Diamond never made a subpar album in his entire career be it with Mercyful Fate or King Diamond. The 90s and 2000s albums are excellent as well. I LOVE Time and House of God.
Until maybe a few years ago, I always gave this album a miss. I don't even know why. Then on the one day I gave it a listen, I was completely floored. It's my favourite King Diamond album now.

@@charleswilson1583 Yes, Them is as well a masterpiece. The build up on both albums towards the last few tracks always make me get all pumped up. Those who said they could do it usually just did some horrible falsetto that sounded more like Edith Bunker than King, but it was still just as fun because all these riffs and beats are great!! And it still holds up today, just like all great music..
Wow! You guys learned all of these arrangements? Impressive!

"I did not bring it in here!!!...did you???"..
This Album is Magnificent!!!
I love when a concept album is done well and King might just be, well, the King of concept albums.
The downward spiral is hard to top for me.
But yeah, the King.

Obra maestra! Saludos desde Argentina hermano metalero
That IS crazy but ya... I'm sure I am going to think of what you just wrote here everytime I listen to this now - out of respect for the little one.
wait... is this the actual album lore?
@@LassetUnsSpielen What I said actually happened, it just so happens that she was named Abigail. I didnt know the name till after the fact. Her father has her name and year of death tattooed on his wrist.
So sad, my respect :(
That's a fucking crazy coincidence
It doesn't get any better than this , what an amazing band!!!
You are SO right!!! \M/ \M/
Mr. President, You are Correct.

Easily King Diamond's best release. Clicking on all cylinders here.
nope "them" but ya is good
Am i missing something . I have been listening since the early 80's and i think all of his stuff is awesome !
I've listened to this album every Christmas morning since it came out
I just listened to it for the first time ever on Xmas Eve. What a f$*ing masterpiece! The production is amazing
Absolute love and respect to the pioneers of thrash. May King Diamond continue his marvelous reign✊🏻✊🏻
the guitar is simply phenomenal and the production . my god the drums alone!......sick AF
My sentiments EXACTLY!!!!
I remember waiting for this to come out, it came out 2 days before my 19th birthday. I can still recall that first listening and being blown away. it was a huge step up from Fatal Portrait. The guitar playing is amazing and the story went full album, and KD was in his prime! What a time to be alive!
The story/concept needs to be made into a movie
that is sometihing i always been thinking, the THEM ALBUM and CONSPIRANCY too
Your wish has been granted!
@@jaymzleutz the Abigail movie 🤘🏻
It reminds me of Nathaniel Hawthorne's Goodman Brown and My Kinsman, Major Molineux: The era, the vibe, the setting out in the woods.
So True.
Abigail is a masterpiece indeed.
I love how his albums are one big story
Andy's solo are always masterpieces
I have everything by KD/MF.
But I keep coming back to Abigail.
Saw the King back in '05, and it's easily the best concert I've ever attended.
🤘💀🤘
I was 6 or 7 when my dad bought this album, I was instantly obsessed. One of the most unique bands ever.
Released in 1987 (I was 24 yrs old) - I had this and Fatal Portrait on vinyl back then when they first came out. Groundbreaking metal.
Amen \m/
I had them on a tape and played it over and over
How old you is now?

I think I'll buy the vinyls again \,,/
Seeing him tomorrow in St Louis so of course here I am re-listening to these masterpieces back to back till the show! Long Live The King! I've seen Primus, Maiden, Priest, and countless others but I can already feel that this will trump them all.
Such an wild and mad release, everyone on the band is overplaying each other. The number of riffs and drum fills per song is insane.
I still remember all of the words and everything else, it really made an impression on me at 16
Michael Denner & Andy LaRocque are one of the most badass guitar duos of all time! Up there with Dave & Adrian from Maiden ✨
Absolutely! Michael&Andy, Dave&Adrian, Tipton&Downing, Mustaine&Friedman in the top tier of guitar duos!🤘🎸
I'm from Russia🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺 heavy metal🤘 I love you. Iron Maiden, Metallica, manovar, w. S. A. P, forever👍👍👍
This is King diamond
Amen Brother 👍👍💯
Pure genius.
There's only 1 KING in this universe.
Hell yeah, check out my collection!!!!
Holy shit the amount of soloing and musicality is incredible. Awesome album, really, and very interesting comparatively what black metal was back then and is now.
The best King Diamond album. Every song is killer \m/
not even close "them" \m/

Absolutely amazing. I come back to this album every few years. Incredible talent. Timeless - just gets better and better. I'm an old man now - there's nothing better than KD / MF
Excelente masterpeace!!!
Muy Bueno, up the irons
THE KING IS THE BEST AT MAKING CONCEPT ALBUMS( # 1, KING DIAMOND CAN'T BE TOUCHED WITH LYRICAL CONCEPTS)
King Diamond is the Best🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I didn't use to listen to this kind of Metal but now i must open my ears🤘🖤🇵🇹Long live the king🤘
Much better late than never 🤘
Welcome to King Diamond's World!!!
King Diamond paved the way for bands like Ghost. Incredible talent.
For me this album is King Diamond opus magnum.
Yes it is
i am split between this and them
absolutely one of the best
Them/Conspiracy as they are the same story for me. But Abigail is almost as brilliant. King Diamond never made a subpar album in his entire career be it with Mercyful Fate or King Diamond. The 90s and 2000s albums are excellent as well. I LOVE Time and House of God.
The Graveyard is my favorite, but yeah, brilliant stuff

Until maybe a few years ago, I always gave this album a miss. I don't even know why.
Then on the one day I gave it a listen, I was completely floored. It's my favourite King Diamond album now.
Me too. All of them.
Listen to the other ones Voodoo, House of God, amazing albums.

@@charleswilson1583 Yes, Them is as well a masterpiece. The build up on both albums towards the last few tracks always make me get all pumped up.
