    I've chosen this place for am air layer because of the second leader that has been growing there for three years. I'm hopefull that I will get a twin trunk Taxodium instead of just a wider nebari, if this air layer succeeds.

    Excellent guide for air layering most trees.

    How interesting!! how is the air layer going?? really curious!!

      Thank you! The airlayer has produced a lot of callus but no roots yet. So I'm going to protect it from frost and wait until next July or August before I give up and just remove it. But I think it's gonna throw roots in May. I'm gonna include it in an updates video, maybe in November. Cheers!

    Well this was a tease. Did it work for you??? Please tell us!
    Two weeks ago I air layered a 10 foot tall nursery specimen that I bought last fall. It's early April here in middle Texas . My BC specimens are leafing out. I have no idea how long it will take until I can expect a verdict but the top remains healthy looking. A good sign.

      I have answered this in other comments, 3 or 4 times and I've included this at one of my updates videos. The tree created a lot callus in the cut but no roots. Like yours, the top is very healthy and leafing out as well. So, in late May, when the hormonal balance is in my favor, I will open it, cut the lower part of the callus, throw a 10 times stronger rooting hormone and close it back with fresh moss. It might take some time but I believe I am going to get some roots, eventually. Cheers!

      @@ArkefthosBonsai Hey. Thanks for the reply and the tips. I will follow your lead and hopefully we'll both succeed. I would really hate to lose the beautiful top but as I see it, its really a no-lose situation. I'll still have the trunk. (sorry that I missed your previous comments)

      @@ArkefthosBonsai I picked up 25 bald cypress seedlings. Sofar 23 have sprouted. The weather has been all over the place here in the Midwest, so not much growth yet. I'm hoping to see how much growth they put out this summer.

    How is this project progressing? I did a ground layer on a Taxodium last year in July but I only got callus and no roots. Yesterday I just cut off the callus, applied hormone rooting powder and started again. I was curious how yours in going :)

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว

      The same here Cristian. But since we have a very cold and wet spring, it's not time yet for me to cut the wound the callus and try stronger rooting hormone. I guess I 2 weeks maybe. I'll make a video of it. Hope you have luck with yours!

      And, it is working ? I am planing to do the same with my taxodium in spring next year but i only tried air layering 2 times and both of them was not sucessfull

      Still no roots visible on the outside of the moss. Haven't opened the moss yet to check the callous though. I will definatly update on this one. Cheers!

    • @ArkefthosBonsai

      No roots visible through the moss yet. The tree is healthy and vigorous with multiple strong shoots above and below the air layer. I'm going to do a separation video for my airlayers in September, it's going to be in there. Cheers!

      @ArkefthosBonsai  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Last time I checked, still no visible roots through the moss. Since I'm in no hurry to make this tree, I will wait another summer to see if it roots. It seems that it needs it's time..

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my latest update video I show the progress. Basically, it produce a lot of callus, huge, but no roots. So I'm going to wait a few more months, maybe open the cslus again and throw more rooting hormone. I guess it will root eventually. I'm going to update this for sure. Cheers!

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand, but I have the luxury of time, so I'll wait, maybe through a stronger hormone on it. I'm confident I'll get it to root.

      @@ArkefthosBonsai I mean I want mine to root too. So I just checked mine and rewrapped it with some fresh sphagnum moss and hormone and hoping when the tree pushes soon I’ll get roots. I’m in Nashville so it doesn’t get very cold here. It did bud up like the bottom did so. I mean so did a cutting I put in the soil early summer of last year.

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nashville! That's the only place I would like to visit in the central US, maybe New Orleans as well. Anyway, probably is the game here. So much calus forming, it's bound to get roots at some point. As far as I'm concerned, an extra tree, with probably an excellent nebari due to the calus, is totally worth it!
