I was there in 1978. Flew in on a Fokker F27 Friendship. The mountains are magnificent. The contrast between the green growing areas and the desert and the rocks is dramatic. The people are marvelous. The polo match I watched was pretty fierce, though. :-)
High altitude, low humidity, and low light pollution made the view of the stars at night astonishing and awe-inspiring. It was the first time I had ever seen the Milky Way.
The weather over the mountains turned bad for a few days, and the flights out were cancelled. Once the weather cleared, the military sent in a couple of C-130s to clear the backlog. Crowded with people and freight and even some small livestock, that was not nearly so pleasant a flight, but it got the job done.
This video brought back many fond memories. Thank you.

It is not polite to insult ANYONE'S religion or belief, whoever they are, but it is not right to attack or kill people if they do it, or are falsely accused of doing it, as happens sometimes in Pakistan. This is one reason why Western News-Media criticizes Pakistan. Any religion should be able to take some fair criticism, be it Christianity, Islam, Bhuddism, Hinduism, or Judaism. No religion is perfect, and all can improve in certain ways. Christianity treated Native / Indigenous People in my country of Canada very badly for 150 years, and now many people in Canada are unhappy and angry at the Christian Churches, even if they are Christians themselves. Some people believe in agnoticism or atheism, and they should be respected too.

In major mountain regions, one can get to recognize different peaks and ranges just like different buildings on a city block, or distinctive parts of a city, neighborhoods, suburbs etc, based on their position and appearance. Maps help a lot, as do photos, and of course constant and careful observation. Every mountain is different, a sculpture by nature, although of course they all look different from different angles, height of the peak and the directions of valleys around them plus landmarks like rivers or lakes or big glaciers are additional identification features. Every mountain fan knows North Pakistan and Kashmir region is among the finest mountains in the World, on an equal level with eastern Nepal and Sikkim region, where Mt Everest, 29035 feet and other high peaks are located. K2 pointed out by the pilots is the World's second highest mountain at 28741 feet above sea level, 6 others in this area exceed 26000 feet, and many more are above 25000 feet. Islamabad is nearly at sea level ! Greetings from Western Canada.

Hi Sam, I would love to travel to Pakistan, I'm from India. There is a political conflict between the countries, But I have so many nice friends from Pakistan. They are very good at hospitality. I worked with them in Dubai.
Always looking at a country from outside is a drama. When you go inside the country you will see the real characters. Love the world. Pakistanis are my neighbors.
