You would have loved me, I've broken more pinball machines and flippers and even flipper cores than anyone else alive. In my prime I could snap a complete flipper core with two taps my hands and fingers were that fast.
It's 2022 now and I have both AFM and RFM in my home. I am waiting for someone to build me the next martian game to the series.... I will pay whatever it takes! This is a great video and needed to be made! Thank you to everyone involved!
I’m really glad to see most of these guys are still in the pinball world today . I know personally being a teenager of the 90’s that pinball has been and will always be an amazing and exciting experience that can’t be replicated or replaced by anything else . Viva La Pinball !!!!
I’ve been into pinball for the last 4 years and I’ll never get tired of playing it. I’d like to meet Steve Ritchie, George Gomez, and Pat Lawlor one day.
Thx for sharing this story, being not just a fan by heart but a "restore by passion", this triggered emotion. Let the ball kept being shot by gamers of skill.
Live streaming and incredible games from Stern like Godzilla, Rush, Avengers Infinity Quest, and the Mandolorian have resurrected pinball yet again. It’s 1,000% not dead. Covid ironically had a lot to do with it
Hi to Cameron Silver, who was one year above me at RMIT. Thanks for showing the ins and outs of Whitewater at Timezone Bourke Street. Just last month I got my first pinball machine JJP's GNR LE.
I've been infatuated with pinball since I was two years old and I still play at forty five along with video games like Space Invaders,Galaxian, Asteroids,Galaga,Pac Man, Donkey Kong,Ms. Pac Man,Dig Dug and Elevator Action still enjoy it all and I will when I'm in my 50s,60s,70s and will not quit until it's time for me to leave this world.
Well, I happened to find a copy of this documentary on DVD at a local Charity Shop. It only cost $2AU, and well worth the money spent, given its jam packed full of features!
I am a hardcore gamer and a super pinball fan. I loved pinball 2000. I felt like it was mad just for me. My favorite pinball machine of all time is AFM. I remember putting the AFM and Revenge From Mars sound bytes as ringtones on my flip phone at the time. I also really enjoyed episode1 pin2K. I would love to see stern,JJ or someone take a shot at something like this again.
Williams made the worst mistake ever by abandoning pinball. Although I love Revenge from Mars, but nothing beats can old school William pinball machine.
Interesting that Stern's vitality made it into the credits, this being made in 2008 and Stern being more successful today than they were at that time (and Jersey Jack Pinball and Chicago Gaming Company releasing successful machines alongside them). Stern just recently announced a new table, Venom, after all. I don't know that pinball resembles what it did in the midparts of the 20th century or the mid 90's, but it's certainly a better world for pinball today than it was in 2008.
This documentary is one of the few focused on these fantastic entertainment machines that marked many generations. Thank you very much for posting it! Would you know if it is available in a higher resolution?
It’s an amazing documentary that all pinball collectors should watch🤩🤩 I had this from yeaaaaaaars back, tried to post it before without succes, but, now will full supporting the rights owner of this video, it has survived for some time here, and I’m thankful for it. So much great history/information. It’s from VHS, but yea a high res version or restoration would be great
Pinball 2000 was ahead of it's time, Stern is doing that same thing with a color video display. Even for something that came out in 1999 i still see them occassionally and can't help but wonder how people must have reacted.
@@RETROCENGO Stern would probably be in the same position that Sega/Data East was in the 90's, and Bally would be where Stern is. In fact I imagine Sterns modern tables would have become the standard in 2010.
Have both Pinball2000 machines in my gameroom, RFM is the one most played, but the kids like SWE1. They are ok machines, but a 90s DMD pinball machine is the better option I think. The new Sterns, JJP, CGC machines are even better, but so expensive.

Man, It was such a disappointing time in pinball when revenge from mars etc came out... Then pinball just tanked. Its too bad profit and capitalism had to tank pinball that way. There are some decent machines coming out these days at least.
Pinball did not need to be saved: it also did not need any cheap gimmicks to be tacked on to it. Pinball only needed someone to believe in it. Gary Stern was the man who did just that, and pinball still exists because of him.
Cool Docu ! yea, it makes me think > life is tough > Life is tough enough concerning money that selling food & human resources(wood/metal/hydrocarbons) is a struggle > Selling entertainment is a whole nother level. The subjective nature of laughter/fun ... I have hope that one day we will be free, but money will have to be different. We will know we are there when things which don't make economic sense will be available. I would volunteer for pinball, but how will I pay rent ? When that sentence has an easy answer ... ... Same goes for soooo many other goods and services.
REALLY??? 240p??? On a doc about pinball? This should have at least been 480 as nothing has been shot in 240p since before the Chicago World's Fair (lol that's a joke SOME will get) Thanks for your effort tho.
@@RETROCENGO I am quite aware of VHS, BETA, and even videodisc. If you remember them. But I believe this came out after they went out. AND I was being snarky. As in wry sarcasm (as with the CWF) but I guess nobody understands the reference in regards to Pinball.. Young'uns ;)
Pinball 2000 sucked. The top of the playfield was completely lost with cheesy video effects which caused the playfield to be 25% smaller and the loss of ramps and habitrails. Nobody bought it, it’s a rarity to see them nowadays and when you do, nobody plays it.
Been pinball repair man for 15 years, this story touched my heart! Thank you!
I know what you mean buddy. Sad how Williams closed

*Hires a guy named Gomez shortly after*
I swear life just writes itself sometimes lol
Not to mention this guy looks like a Starwars character from way later in the future..
I remember playing Pinball 2000 Star Wars: Episode 1 at my home town's bowling alley back in the early 2000's and actually thought it was cool.
I’ve seen someone play Star Wars: Episode 1 pinball 2000 before, but I heard it sold poorly cause of how bad the movie was.
Pinball must resurrect.. it connects buttons and physical reality into understanding.

With the reflection it is such an old idea, coming from magic. It is called Pepper‘s Ghost and was used in old theatres 100 years ago.
