    Just a thank you for making seriously well edited and genuinely funny mini-docs on pinball history. Usually this kind of niche content never receives the quality treatment you're giving it. Ride or die for Bralex.

    Actually, Banzai Run had the first diamond plated playfield. But it was experimental at that phase, so only a few machines were released with DP playfields. Terminator 2 was the first machine where ALL the playfields manufactured were diamond plated. It's essentially the same polyurethane clearcoat used on cars, and they did away with that label after Fish Tales.

    Great Series, I've thoroughly enjoyed them.
    But, Williams "Joust" is crazy fun, like funner than most other pinball machines level fun, if you have someone decent to play against.
    Also, Even with the "balls in her mouth" gimmick, "The machine: Bride of PinBot" is one of the funnest pinball machines ever made, the rotating head is an addictive feature and makes it a worthy sequel to the original iconically addictive "PinBot"

    Funhouse was ok, and Whilrwind was funny with the fan on top, and plenty of others were so good...but you hit the nail onf the head, as The Addams Family pinball machine was in fact great for a reason...I sunk plenty of quarters into that as a kid, a teen and an adult in bars. IT was just that cool and iconic. Twilight Zone might be in 3rd/ Bronze or 2nd/sivler spot depending on ones feeligns about it, but it was cool too. BUt to me, second to the Addams Family one was the Star Trek TNG pinball machine from 1993...that one was PERFECT for trekky fans and it had some cool features on screen and on the table. Surprised you didnt have that on here tbh. I remember some of the ones you did show and others. PINball rocks! ^

I mean, what even is the point of flashing up a playfield as a tiny picture in the corner, with a list of a dozen people who worked on it, for all of like 4 seconds? Who is able to take absolutely anything in at all of that info? Or flash us half a second of a picture of one topper before cutting to a black screen and then pointless meme pics?

    Bralex, do you think that the pinball machines of the early DMD era were too good for the industry's own good? Since most of the great ones were Bally/Williams, should they have turned the faucet down and spaced out their great pins? I'd be curious what percentage of machines were purchased by private citizens (and would still be interested in the brand-new machines) compared to operators.

    • @bralex2670
      @bralex2670  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that pinball machines just became too much of an investment for operators that they didn't need or want to get a new one every year. I don't think it's just about the games being too good.
      Stern also makes a lot of good games these days, but they can get away with it by having a much better business model. Things like multiple versions, better distribution, and targeting home consumers/hardcore fans.
      It also doesn't help that bally/williams was owned by wms. Pinball just looks like a bad investment to anyone who doesn't get it. That's why i emphasized the importance of stern and all the other modern companies running themselves. I'm fairly confideny bally/williams would still be around today if they ran themselves

    There are so many pinball machines that need an acurate digital transition so everyone can experience them. But I guess too many digital licenses are afloat and many games to play gonna be stuck inthis license war. Had most Williams tables on my phone and one day - update - boom! - many were gone, including my favorite old school classic Fireball. Damn!

    I like how Sega keeps drunkenly wandering in and out of the pinball story, all the while you know that when they're offscreen, they're tanking their home console business. Kinda makes me love the company even more

      The only real good Sega ever did to pinball was paving the way for Stern.
      I'm really curious to see how classic Sega tables play, they could be good and I would never know

      Oh absolutely. And yet they did sort of "save" pinball just by existing (not of any actual acumen) as you pointed out. Which seems to be their MO.
      They should try to jump back in now that they're the "we just make Sonic games" company
