    So I have mine for free on my last job 😅 I was cleaning the office during the pandemic and it was sitting there, so I asked my boss if Can I have it and he say yes… so I’ve been using ir since then. It’s really cool to have it with me all the time

    I still have a G2 and Pro1. Owned the G10-12 too and they all made great pics in good light.

      Very cool! I'm curious to hear more about your take on the Pro1. I have one, but it hasn't yet become a regular part of the rotation. When I'm feeling the small sensor vibe lately, I tend to grab a G2 or the Minolta D'Image A2...

    I bought the G7, G10 and S90 back when they were current. Great cameras for their time, took thousands of images with them, overseas and across states.

      @@UlyssesGrantParm I did! The versatility of the G7's long zoom can't be underestimated. Tech has advanced tremendously since then, but even the G7 was awesome. I even had a Fuji F30 back then. Fun days.

    I think you were a bit hard on the G11, if you compare the image quality to other point and shoots of the same time period like the Panasonic Lumix TZ range with their Leica lenses it is well ahead of the game.

    I shoveled up mine recently (thus im here lol). Just coz the rotating screen is so useful and easier to use (comparing to a phone). Also, as an old-schooler i really like "one gadget for one function" approach and i just love how g11 sits in my hands))
    So, my question might sound weird but could you please compare (generally) g11 with the camera in Samsung Note 10+ (my current phone)? I mean which one should be a better one tech/spec wise? I'm not a photo-nerd - just a casual shooter so your experience and expertise will be much appreciated 🙏✨️

    • @UlyssesGrantParm

      Great question. It seems to me that there are both practical and technical considerations. Based on what I say on the line, the Samsung has three sensors, each of which is smaller than the one in the Canon. But the three Samsung cameras together offer a lot of flexibility in focal range, especially with the addition of the wide angle lens!
      Additionally, Samsung has some pretty impressive stuff going on under the hood when it comes to processing. Less so in the Canon, but if you use LR/PS you can make loads of adjustments later, especially if you shoot raw.
      In terms of ergos, I would generally prefer a grip, an OVF and a flippy screen to just a phone screen, but lots of folks would disagree, especially with the amazing resolution of that Samsung display. Which do you prefer?
      Here are a couple links that dive deeper into specs and user experience:

      @flashbackflip 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@UlyssesGrantParm thank you very much for your perspective and I'm yet to study provided links. But frankly speaking, i prefer G11 for similar reasons - grip and screen)) but! I will come back to report what i think about the actual photos.
      I might be wrong (conceptually), but i try to catch life as is - without later post-production and much tinkering (albeit trimming), so my point of view will be RAW by itself 😉

      Thanks for your question. I have mine loaned out at the moment, so I can't test it apples to apples with my other small sensor cams, but I don't remember my copy being especially fast at AF. Certainly not fast enough that I noticed its speed relative to other cams. Anyone else care to weigh in?

      Does g11 have similar colour as g2?

    • @UlyssesGrantParm
      @UlyssesGrantParm  ปีที่แล้ว

      To my eye they look similar. The G11 might've metered more to my taste... I say this because in some of my G2 jpgs the subject is a bit underexposed, especially people. That said, if you presented me with 20 random jpgs from each I don't think I could reliably tell you which image came from which camera.

    • @UlyssesGrantParm
      @UlyssesGrantParm  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are similar to my eye. In some shots the G11 seems a little punchier and more contrasty, but that may be as much about the conditions on the day as the camera!

    • @UlyssesGrantParm
      @UlyssesGrantParm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for your message and congrats on your G11! I'll definitely think about how I might do a video like that.
      In the meanwhile, I'll gladly tell you my go-to recipe for the filmic look I like using Lightroom on RAW images:
      1. Apply an S curve. (I like the less contrasty, gray shadow look.)
      2. Apply vignetting to darken the corners.
      3. Desaturate the global colors a bit.
      4. Shift the blues toward aqua/teal. It looks more like 90s prints to me this way.
      Thanks again!
