    I had these hood struts even before my Tacoma came in. Installed for a year and a half and still working perfectly. The Truck should have came with these From the factory.

    Hi Rob, I enjoy your videos. I have another tip that I just learned from a fellow mechanic. When in need of a drill stop, slip a socket over the chucked up drill, leaving the length of drill desired. He called it the poor man's drill stop.

    Just installed these on my 2023 Tacoma yesterday. The ball stud you mentioned in your video is 7/16 hex size, not metric like one would expect, since it threads in a 10M tapped hole. Pulled out my American standard wrench set and the 7/16 fits perfectly.

    Installed mine 6 mos ago. I did file down and respray the sharp edges of the brackets just because... I open my hood 2-3 times a month and so far have had zero issues.

    2 1/2 years later still give these 5 stars. No pressure loss in the struts. Still lifts the hood (scoop and deflector) nice and high. No issues with the ground stud. I know you had issues with your cold air intake, but these clear my oem TRD CAI no problem.

    Hood struts are the very first mod you should add to a Tacoma that doesn’t come stock with them. I went with a different brand that require drilling, but these seem to be a great option as well. Once you have them installed, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them. That hood is freaking HEAVY.

    One thing I can say is the inner fender peg on passenger side flexes a good amount when you close the hood. Maybe because that strut is long and takes the initial pressure plus new. Still I was kind of surprised. Maybe it will relax some after using it enough. These aren't aftermarket fenders. 🤷

    Interesting. I'll order some now. If only I could find a kit to delete the ugly grille and TSS page ion my Tacoma. Not into any of the aftermarket ones at all, may just have to fab my own. Also trying to figure out how to mask off the annoying TACOMA lettering across the bottom of the tailgate. Toyota doesn't pay me to advertise their crap so I'm getting rid of all their logos on my truck. BTW, wtf is the hood scoop for on the 2022 as It looks like it could be functional but what the hell model needs it to work? Another item I want to delete asap.

    A little iffy on the double-sided tape. Seems like a good product/mod, but for something as heavy as a hood, can you really rely on the tape?

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tape is really inconsequential. More of a locator for the bracket. The screw is the true mechanical part of the device👍

I had to use a combo wrench because the bolt did not fit any size metric nor SAE. I can probably get a replacement but will gave no hole for threading it in. Guess I can ask dealer but will compound costs if they ha e to machine and re tap. I give up. No struts for me

      Were you able to get out the broken bolt? If not did you try drilling the cener of the bolt and using a Easy Out and some penetrating oil?

    I'm not a fan of having to drill, but I think the other ones that requiring drilling would be better long term. I don't like the mechanics of these...the ones that require drilling have better leverage.
