    Thank you for saying that you can experiment with any grind method for any brewing method. I think so many people get caught up with doing things "the way you're supposed to" and forget it is about making something that you enjoy. The best cup of coffee is the coffee that YOU like, the way that YOU like it.

      Yea I’ve always found ppl who drink something they don’t like because it’s “proper” very silly.

    This is a good explanation about what settings to use for what brew. Burr grinders are definitely the best as the grind consistency is much better and also because the burrs don't heat up the coffee making it bitter. I've just uploaded my own video which actually shows you how to dismantle and change the settings of a burr grinder.

    Nice video! It would have been helpful if you had said what kind of coffee flavor comes from ground coffee. (eg: does coarse coffee give a stronger flavor/taste?)

    So I was searching for info on grinding coffee beans and a video came up with a pic and I said to myself, “that looks like the pool guy!” Of course I had to watch and then when you said you were Matt I was like mind blown. lol. Thanks.

    I've been using the blade grinder for years for my espresso and its fine with me. When I use the grinder, I grind the beans for 10-15 sec. stop for sec. and grind again for 15 sec until the beans are perfectly ground for my espresso. I do that so I don't over heat the coffee beans.

    Thanks, cool and informative! I have the Wilfa Svart Nymalt grinder, but sadly it doesn't say anything about fine medium or coars, just differet brewing methods, so Filter is coarse, Aeropress is kinda medium and Mocca is really fine, and a bunch of others. So I kinda have to experiment anyways then. Anyway . cool video

    "Blade grinders can heat up the coffee and roast it a little more."
    Um, OK.

    • @cyranthus
      @cyranthus 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Landrew0 Yeah, I wouldn't say this is a very good reason for not using a blade grinder. a better reason for not using a blade grinder is because it's inconsistent grind. using an inconsistent grind in a pour over will cause an uneven extraction.

      Using a blade makes it chopping not grinding.

    • @YUHhuhYUH
      @YUHhuhYUH 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It wouldn’t roast them but the blades could heat up due to friction

    • @LiamKarlMitchell
      @LiamKarlMitchell 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well yeah, friction == heat you can blend tomatos and heat it to start steaming in a powerful enough blender.
      You can also vacuum pack coffee beans that are fresh, freeze them fast and use them weeks later, retaining freshness and they get a little easier to grind which should somewhat mitigate heat from a grinder?

      TheDano1947
      No...dude... Just no.
      The grind size depends on how long your beans stay in contact with water, for example, in French press, beans stay in direct contact with water for arround 4-5 mins, so coarse beans are good, with pour-over water is flowing and never being on contact with beans for more than 10-20 sec, so medium would work with expresso then entire shot is ready in like 30 sec so having fine grind is nessary... Using find grind for for French press would result in over extraction, where coffee becomes extremely bitter losing all it's flavour to bitterness....some people may like that, but I don't like over extracted coffee when I drink black which is usually always, i coffee is over extract I can be used with milk and sugar...which really isn't coffee anymore it's a desert.
