The more I hear and see Fisichella's performances on TH-cam, the more I become convinced that he never really got what he deserved. His high notes are unmatched by almost any other tenor - free, dead-on, ringing and beautiful. But he is a lot more than just an incredible top. He has a beautiful sound throughout his vocal range. And while I won't call him the greatest singer, nearly everything I have heard from him is tasteful, well sung, melifluous and with a reasonable amount of passion. Perhaps there is some reason that I am not aware of for his failure to become a true star. But until someone tells me what that reason is, I will believe that he was probably the most underrated and underappreciated tenor in the last 50 years.
His only flaw is rushing ahead of the tempo sometimes, but, that's quite forgivable and it's the orchestra's job to accompany singers anyway. But you're quite right, he's very underrated. Although I think in Italy he's considered the best Bellini tenor of all time....
Because of the Recording companies who only wanted Pavarotti Domingo and Carreras, Fisichella had a very beautiful voice, but was found wanting in Larger Theatres, but so Was the other three, even Domingo whose voice was small for the roles he performed could NOT be heard in many theatres at the back. Fisichella should have been seen more especially in America, he only came to London about half a Dozen times and was always excellent, he appeared in Glyndebourne in Boheme, but it was the recording companies and Theatre Managers who were really to Blame in the Eighties and Nineties he sang the Shirts off the other three!
One possibility is that he preferred his career as it played out. He may not have wanted the life of an opera 'superstar' and all that goes with it. Perhaps he preferred a somewhat quieter career, with more time closer to home.
He is Greatest Tenor better than anyone. The highest tone quality voice ever. Very balanced, power clean clear diction Phrasing perfect maschera bel canto Style . Beautiful, Gorgeous, phenomenal Sound ever!!
best comment reward. It is not disrespect to say: it's shameful to see so much marketing and fames among others so called 3 or top tenors, no better world in art than other field, unfair and buried under the system too often, he has the golden texture timber...
I only want to say my respectfull appreciation that this piece of music should be considered as the pray of a monk suffering in despair, not and never, as many other tenors like, and exercise of vocal strength.
Great singing. This is a live rendition, singing on the stage. Corelli never sang it on the stage but he did studio recordings. Its not fair to compare Corelli version and this live recording.
ABsolutely Magnificent - unfortunately all the Met seemed to notice were Pavarotti & Giordani. Fisichella was better than both of them in shared repertory! One of the greatest!!!
Grandissimo Salvatore Fisichella. Ho sempre amato la sua vocalità. Grazie!!!

Thank you 🤗
Très belle interprétation....

his texture timber is a treasure itself, do not need to talk about else. What a Tragic to Met. Beautiful, handsome and haunting voice.
@ucrebel59 I agree. But Corelli was unable to sing the second aria - "Una Vergine Un angel di Dio" - with the requisite run up to the high C#.
