I find it very strange that as the world becomes more dangerous we spend less on defence and as the UK population rises the number of police officrs is reduced.

Funnily enough, spending more money on the war industry makes GDP increase. So do expenses for immigrants and other public expenses, by the way. GDP is a fine political tool that does not tell much about how much real 'value' is created.
