  • Isabel Oakeshott and Kevin O'Sullivan discuss a potential exodus of British millionaires due to fears over Keir Starmer's Labour Government.
They also denounce the chancellor's plan to impose a 10% fuel duty, which will burden motorists and small businesses, and the smoking ban in pub gardens, which they argue will lead to pub closures.

@@davidhill5540 At this point, every country is better in some way. The US has the "red states" to offer, and in Europe you can enjoy more personal liberties pretty much anywhere you go. Small countries are usually the most comfortable (and also make it easy for Westeners to settle as they want reasonably skilled/educated people to come). Even Eastern Europe is better than the UK nowadays (you have to take a cut in wages, but cost of living is also much lower, in return you get personal liberties unimaginable in the UK, and once you qualify for a UK pension you'll be quite well off for local standards). Given the choice, I would even prefer Kyiv to London, despite the place being at war at the moment (it's still safer), but I would actually recommend Poland, Czech Republic, the Baltics, or similar countries if you want to go for Eastern Europe right now. I really can't think of any country I wouldn't prefer to the UK with Starmer in charge.

My husband was on a call just after Labour won and 4 out of 6 people on the call said they were giving the Labour Government 12 months and if it went badly they were leaving because they work from a home office and can locate that home office anywhere. These professional people have worked overseas during their careers so moving to another country is not a huge wrench. With the way things have gone thus far I'm putting a bet on that they will not be waiting the 12 months. My husband and I aren't one of the 4 but I'm beginning to wonder if we need to make it 5.

The hedge funders are all kinds of organisations some are pension groups. Well, done the Labour Party. The next thing we will see is job losses. Retailers have already said that they are shutting some shops. But the Oil and Gas industry has warned that they will no longer invest in the North Sea and no more job recruitment. They also said that there could be job losses. Well done to all who want green energy. The knock-on effect of loss of investments will affect sub-contractors and suppliers. The parts of the UK's biggest hit will be the Northeast of England and Scotland. Checked out in the Business section.
