- Sir Keir Starmer has said the Government will “take decisions” on a potential outdoor smoking ban in an effort to curb preventable deaths and alleviate pressures on the NHS.
Industry leaders have warned that the proposed plans to ban outdoor smoking, including in beer gardens and outside stadiums, would be another “nail in the coffin” for pubs and bars.
Conservative commentator Benedict Spence and former Labour adviser Matthew Laza join Talk’s Jeremy Kyle to debate the potential ban.

Admitted censoring people online is far easier than in a pub.
He wants us all to work from home for the same reason, to discourage people from associating. No congregating in pubs or the workplace magically reproduces lockdown conditions. Similarly by introducing laws which limit our freedom of speech, what we can say online or about moose limbs (I can't say the actual word in case it catches the attention of the TH-cam algorithm) we are now being made to wear gags instead of masks.

I think the purpose of this, is to shut down a lot more pubs, therefore stopping social intereaction between the public. And restrict what people can say online. Then bingo they have complete control of the public.

I, too, remember being able to smoke on planes, too. Those were the days! There was nothing wrong with it. Great food, great service, plenty to drink, and lots of cigarettes. Perfect!

If outdoor smoking is banned (in certain areas / establishments) on health grounds then shouldn’t we be banning pubs, shops and restaurants and supermarkets that sell alcohol on health grounds? I should add I don’t smoke or drink alcohol.

Chaps, the thinking is to reduce 'some' of the pressure on the NHS. Smoking increases your chances of developing lung, throat, mouth cancers, heart disease and other illnesses. Treatment of this could be avoided. And yes, I fully realise these diseases have other root causes, such as poor diet, pollution, lack of exercise, work practices, obesity, alcohol abuse. Treating smoking related illnesses costs the NHS on average £2.5bil+ per year. If you combine smoking, obesity and alcohol abuse the NHS foots £10bil+ per year. We cant scream and shout that nothing works anymore, whilst screaming and shouting about change. PS - I voted Reform....
