Not quite. All strong emotions give Smith strength, anger is just one of the stronger emotions. But anger also clouds judgement. By keeping Tarkin in a prized position and over Vader, Vader’s anger would keep him mailable and easier for Sidious to control. In truth, Sidious feared Vader. Very well said here PS. The history between Tarkin and Palpatine in both Canon and Legends is always a fun one to look at; there's no denying that Tarkin was a vital component to the Death Star for Sidious. Thank you for watching!
Honestly, I think Palpatine kept Tarkin alive because it was like an Anger Vat for Vader. He could continuously drink from it, continuously be angry, continuously be unstable, continuously be loyal to Palpatine.
I know this is late but it was also takins usefulness, takin survived because he was smart enough to constantly be useful to palpatine (just like thrawne with palps and Vader) in order to survive and palpatine let takin survive because of how useful takin was. He might've failed a few times but it was never consistently and he'd always make up for it somehow. With the sith it's all about use, palps sacrificed dooku for anakin the minute dooku stopped being useful and palpatine had a chance to use anakin
Palpatine knew how important Tarkin was and never humiliated him, even keeping him safe from Vader and giving him some authority over him. Takin was old but commanded respect and fear because he was one of the few people who could give orders to Vader and was even able to give Vader a challenge when Tarkin hunted him after a request from Vader. One of the few non force sensitives able to match a sith/jedi without any augmentations like Grievous. Meanwhile, Hux is humiliated over and over again, basically becoming Kylo's underling once Snoke dies. What a contrast.
Sidious wasn't loyal to Tarkin. He just found him useful. The minute he stopped being useful, he'd be expendable. Darth Sidious was truly the expression of the dark side being very ambitious, evil and selfish.
So Loyal were Darth Sidious (the Tarkin-Friend) and Darth Vader (the Tarkin-Frenemy) to Grand Moff Tarkin that they murdered Tarkin's only begotten son...The Emperor Protects!

Which of course, he did. Ironic. He could save others from a fall down a reactor shaft, but not himself.

Only reason can think to exempt Tarkin from being at Vader's mercy unlike the rest of the universe was that Sideous needed a competent genius military general/admiral for warfare purposes if it became necessary as with the Rebellion or Vong.
That’s because the boots hurt his feet while the actor was taking those shots. Cool when you see how he acted because you’d never know this unless you were told
It's ironic that the actor who played Tarkin, Peter Cushing also played the vampire hunter Van Helsing in the old 1960s hammer horror movies; and years later Sir Christopher Lee who always played opposite him as Count Dracula, played Count Dooku in the prequels; and both were phenomenal world class actors! 😁

I have a theory that tarkin was part of palpatines inner circle The members of the Republic that knew he was a sith lord Like his advisor And has been loyal to him for a long time I suspect he was also in league with palpatine to frame ahsoka for the bombing of the jedi temple I have a feeling palpatine knew barriss the one involved and manipulated her to bomb the jedi temple and then proceed to frame ahsoka knowing she would be dismissed from the jedi order That would help anakins turn to the dark side and lose faith in the jedi council
My issue with the character of Tarkin is that when he first appeared in A New Hope he didn't strike me as a competent officer or anything special... Then recently they built his character so much that his current character contrasts too much with his ANH character.

So would Earth be considered the outer rim
If Tarkin had survived Yavin, Vader would've gotten his wish.
Tarkins death was what soften vader enough for luke too reach his good side:)),and by that i mean vader was happy that tarkin died ,so happy that his dark side went down a few procents
Because he gave the best damn foot rubs in the galaxy
Interesting information, but weird quasi-Snagglepuss vocal delivery.
I was just thinking the same thing. A lot of extra emphasis and an upward inflection on the ending of words.
"Jedi orderrrrrRRR"
OK, since when are Tarkin and Vader antagonistic to each other? Who are the morons that keep making the Emperor and his cronies antagonistic to Vader. Tarkin called Vader an old friend in the first goddamn movie.
I have a theory that tarkin was part of palpatines inner circle
The members of the Republic that knew he was a sith lord
Like his advisor
And has been loyal to him for a long time
I suspect he was also in league with palpatine to frame ahsoka for the bombing of the jedi temple
I have a feeling palpatine knew barriss the one involved and manipulated her to bomb the jedi temple and then proceed to frame ahsoka knowing she would be dismissed from the jedi order
That would help anakins turn to the dark side and lose faith in the jedi council
Tarkin was never told that palpatine was a sith lord, but eventually deduced it.
"I need Tarkin. A New Hope has already been released and I don't want to screw up the timeline."
My issue with the character of Tarkin is that when he first appeared in A New Hope he didn't strike me as a competent officer or anything special... Then recently they built his character so much that his current character contrasts too much with his ANH character.
I always wait till the end of these videos to see who or what I “do it for “. “If not for me... do it for...”
238k subs 238k views. Now thats some good channel work
I now wanna see an AU where Tarkin has the force
This is great explanation. Perfect video. Enjoyed it. Naration is excellent.
Turns out that Vader still holded a grudge after Ahsokas' trial.
Tarkin was one of the few competent officers in the Empire
Think you could do another General Grievous video soon? Your last one was great.
Tarkin: Emperor, Lord Vader threatened to Force Bitch Slap me.
Emperor: I will speak with him.
What planet did he say Tarkin was from? How would it be spelled?
Vader was the hammer, and Tarkin was the pick.
Tarkin and Anakin had contact too yes? (If them animated StarW is considered canon). I thought Vader respected Tarkin, and the 2 even fought alongside one another.
