Ford Ranger Raptor review - a new breed of fast Ford? | Autocar

  • When it was first announced that the Ford Ranger Raptor would be sold in the UK, some were sceptical of its chances. Sure, performance pick-up trucks have been big sellers in the USA for as long as anybody can remember, but who’d have wanted one over here - especially considering that the only engine available was a four-cylinder diesel?
    The answer to that question was, somewhat surprisingly, a lot - in 2021 alone, one of the quietest years for the car industry ever, Ford sold 8000 of these in Europe. Impressive.
    After seeing the demand for this faster Ranger, Ford immediately started working on a more hardcore replacement, and this is it. With a revised chassis, some very clever suspension components and a turbocharged V6 under the bonnet, it should be a hoot to drive.

    This vehicle is beautiful!
    I'm not an off-roader myself, didn't realise how impressive the Raptor was (is).
    I can't wait to have one!

    Pity it's been de tuned so much... in Oz it's 292kw... nearly 400hp. Now that's a Raptor...

      Damn! I had to check this out: 392 hp (292 kW) and 430 lb-ft (583 Nm) of torque in Australia, in Europe it is capped at 288 hp and 362 lb-ft (491 Nm)!😮

    This engine currently in use in Seb Loeb's BRX Hunter killing the Dakar with a hatrick of stage wins. Boasts well for the Ranger Raptor.

      Its almost the same, BRX has a 3.5L V6 TT, the raptor has a 3.0L V6 TT

    Bit bizarre you missed one of the main issues with the vehicle ? It’s been massively detuned for the UK / EU market - from 400bhp to 282bhp. I’m not buying this purely because of this.

    Not a great prospect in the UK, for a start it is de-tuned as others have said compared to other markets. But the main factor it that it is not classed as a commercial vehicle (same as the last one) so reduced carrying capacity, reduced towing capacity and the biggest negative - business buyers can not claim back the tax

      It's not intended to be a utility/commercial vehicle. It's a sport vehicle.

      They are classified as commercial in Ireland and you can claim the vat back. Seems the same in most other Ru countries. The uk seems to be the only one that you can’t! So more good things coming from Brexit hahahahahahaha

    You seemed to ignored the elephant in the room. Anywhere but the EU this Raptor has 392bhp vs 284bhp for the UK (non of that metric PS rubbish!!). How do you even get only 94bhp/litre from a modern TWIN turbo engine? Are the turbos sucking air out rather than forcing it in!!!

      It’s software, just a matter of reflashing to NA tune for 292kw or some aftermarket one for 300+kw.

      Do you think only rally drivers buy sportscars lmao? It’s a fun, fast vehicle that has “go anywhere” capabilities. Like a G-wagon, most people will never use it to it’s limits, but it’s nice to have the capabilities.

    I find it amusing that Brits still refer to things like this as "cars". Sorry guys. TRUCKS! They're properly called TRUCKS! Or even pickup truck, if you prefer. But not a car.

    You made a mistake twice.
    Twice you said almost 290 horsepower.
    The car has 292 KILOWATTS which is near on 400 horsepower!!
