Have been Lucky and fortunate enough to purchase Three Fylde instruments, and met Roger on a few occasions,,a Complete Wealth of knowledge!,and has helped me make the RIGHT choice for myself,he’s quite right when he says the customer is usually wrong!,give him a few clues and leave it with him,,,you Won’t be disappointed!,Simply The Best!.
Reminds me of when I had my Custom Madagascar Falstaff made and Roger let me choose the woods from a pile of boards! Such a great experience and such a great guy, customer service is second to none and the guitars are second to none in my opinion either!
That's amazing Roger. I'm patiently waiting for my Fylde mandolin due around Autumn time. It's great to see the care and precision involved in it's construction. James Floyd Bangor Northern Ireland. 😊
Came across this video and I'm blown away. If I was to have a custom guitar made this would be the man I'd choose to do it. It's amazing that he has wood squirreled away all over the place but knows what kind each is as he comes across it while walking around. I'm a mahogany guitar guy and have lusted after a Cuban mahogany guitar with an Italian spruce top but I went and got old and I don't think I have enough years left to warrant a build and the time it would take for the guitar to really come into its own. But thanks for the video as it helps immensely to get a fix like this.
That's a sad story. If you can afford it, surely you owe the world he benefits of your careful taste: your legacy. But also the joy you would have from it being made, choosing the materials and being involved in the process. And, as you know, "coming into its own" is a process over many years, but the biggest and most noticeable differences are at the beginning. Don't deny yourself, or the world, of another beautiful guitar if it's a choice you're able to make and afford.
Yummy. Totally agree, but there are many others, including Manson, Brook, and many many others. All terrific. I have a David Anthony Reid from the very early years of this century and it's gorgeous.
I saw a live artist in Northcape municipality in Northern Norway last year with a Fylde guitar, filmed it too. Great sound. He lives in the municipality south of Northcape. Probably the northernmost Fylde guitar in the world, his guitar. Good to see honest working guitar brands with special attention to detail and quality. Now I must try a Fylde guitar..
Look at that hat lol. What a treasure this man is. It should be said Mr Bucknall makes instruments for many professional players and could charge twice as much as what he does, yet he tries his level best to make these guitars affordable which is very commendable given there are Luthiers with nowhere near as much experience as him and charging considerably more.
I was so happy when he got his MBE, so deserved for such a national treasure, I used to love taking my Fylde down every year for a service, done by him personally, which he never charged for, unless something needed done but even then he charged me like £100 for a complete re-fret, he was so pleased that I had played my way through a set of frets in just a few years lol, which he knew meant the guitar was being played constantly! I think he hates his guitars being case queens! It's hilarious when ordering a custom made guitar and he just refuses to build the guitar the way you want rather he tells you what guitar he's building for you!
@@S-T-E-V-E I hope to be able to visit his shop when able. I’m nowhere near good enough to deserve a Fylde but I want a guitar that will inspire me to keep getting better and nearly all of the factory produced guitars to my ear don’t seem to have the fat treble sound that Fylde has?
@@andrewbowen8122 I know I bought my first Fylde about 16 years ago, I basically sold all my other mid range guitars to get a Fylde Magician, the guy who I bought it off owned my local music shop and we went down to the Fylde workshop to collect it after about a month wait, that's when I met Roger for the first time and he gave me a tour of the workshop, the Magician was amazing, the bass tones it produces is unreal, after a couple of years I decided to go for a dreadnought and I emailed Roger and he invited me down to discuss it, I ended up going for a Custom Falstaff made with Madagascar Rosewood, Engelmann Spruce an Ash neck with Tulipwood binding, it only cost me £3500! That was 13 years ago though but a Gibson of similar spec would cost £6k plus! You can regularly find good deals on eBay for Fylde guitars and if you take it to Roger I'm sure he would service it and give you a tour but if you buy one brand new from him you can spec the dimensions of the neck etc and even have minor custom touches on a standard model!
@@andrewbowen8122 - Thank you for that phrase "fat treble". It's exactly what I look for in guitars. I'm out of date with the market, I've not been able to go shopping for a while, but I usually prefer British instruments to American ones, though I confess to not having anything negative to say about the Santa Cruz guitars I've played. But Fylde and Brook stand out as crisp and fat in tone and beautifully made. I can't afford, unfortunately, to even look at a Manson or a Sobell. But there are so many good makers in these islands.
@@psychoprosthetic Have you seen Michael Watts channel? He’s clearly a virtuoso guitar player who plays mainly in DADGAD but he’s well into the different makers. Sobell and Ralph Bown are in that top end league and if you’ve not seen Tom Sands guitars his channel is worth seeing. Same here re price but I reckon I could probably save up for a Brook Guitar which compared to a mass produced make, you know it will be flawless? That said I do love that American strumming sound from a Gibson Hummingbird.

Fylde is the best! So good to see the place where my wonderful new guitar came from, and the MAN who does it!!
Now that's a proper workshop !!!

What a treasure trove.
Fylde guitars are fabulous.
Loved this. What a great guy and jewel of a place

Fyldes, Lowdens and Armstrongs. They are just awesome.

Top man, great guitars
I love Roger's view that 'you can't have enough timber..' ☺️He is a real aficionado who makes truly beautiful guitars and mandolins 😍🎶 Great video. 👍

I’m guessing snooker table legs quartersawn. Need to be strong holding a ton of slab
Met a guy called Bill who worked at Fylde Guitars back in 75, ended up buying an “Elizabethan” (I think). Unfortunately I no longer have it ☹️
