India's protein deficiency stems from historical dietary patterns favoring carbohydrates over proteins, compounded by socio-economic factors limiting access to quality protein sources. To address this, promoting awareness on balanced nutrition, subsidizing protein-rich foods for the underprivileged, and incentivizing agriculture for protein crops like pulses are crucial steps.

Because since childhood we are eating Dal - Chawal & our parents say your dal is rich in protein but wrong ! dal - chawal is a plant based protein , which is an incomplete protein . And when I start eating protein 60 - 70 - 90 gm protein my parents say why are you eating high protein . You will be ill or your kidney will fail 😂😂 . But I eat protein as per my daily protein requirements as per calculation online my protein is 70 - 100 gm . My parents were shocked when i told them , i eat 80 - 90 gm protein becoz since childhood we eat very less amount of protein . So that's why they were shocked , unaware about the reality that this high amount of protein our body really needs for its better functions .

Most of the Haryanvis, Punjabis, Rajasthanis and Gujaratis are vegetarian but protein deficiency is not a big problem for them. On the other hand, most of the people from Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha are non-vegetarian but protein deficiency is a big problem for them.
And digestive systems of humans and vegetarian animals are very similar.
A vegetarian animal contains both types of intestines. But meat-eating animals contain only one intestine.

It translates to Rs 100 per day for average 60 kg person. if a family have four members, cost of protein will be Rs 12000 per month which is higher than average wage. There is no way that India's protein consumption can be increased before average income rise. I think we should exclude people of north-east from this list of protein deficient people. They consume plenty of meat everyday, especially the tribals who hunt and consume meat and fulfill their daily protein requirements.
This list should only be applicable to the people of north india who are in general, vegetarians and avoid eating meat out of religious reasons.
Furthermore, folks from punjab and haryana shouldn't be counted as well since they mostly have an agriculturist background and depend on milk and dairy substitutes to fulfill their protein requirements essential for developing a good muscle mass.
Protein deficiency should be prevalent mostly within those communities which neither consume meat nor milk or dairy products to fulfill their daily protein requirements, such groups of people are highly depended on rice, wheat, lentils and loads of oily and unhealthy street foods.
Meanwhile, rampant poverty is also one of the many reasons behind protein deficiency in India, but religious reasons can't be completely neglected, cuz we have some festivals wherein people fast for nearly a week avoiding even the consumption of garlic and onion let alone meat.
It's high time indians should make changes in their eating and consumption habits, cuz lack of protein would only result in poor muscle mass and overall development of the body.
