True
India's protein deficiency stems from historical dietary patterns favoring carbohydrates over proteins, compounded by socio-economic factors limiting access to quality protein sources. To address this, promoting awareness on balanced nutrition, subsidizing protein-rich foods for the underprivileged, and incentivizing agriculture for protein crops like pulses are crucial steps.
Pulses are not good source of protein
also, too many Indians lack protein because they are a Vegetarian which is a dangerous life style.

Creating hidden hunger mean???
Main reason for protein deficiency is years of abuse of Indians and keeping us poor, we have to opt for rice and wheat which is full of carbohydrates and way too less protein. If we were predominantly non-vegetarians then this issue would have never occurred.
I try to explain this to my parents, that the Indian diet is poor in it's protein content. They think I am crazy, and respond with, "our ancestors had the same diet and they are as fit as one could be". I started weight training when I realised the deficiency of protein in our diets, but my parents keep telling me I will fall sick in the future if I eat more protein. I can’t-

Major reasons:
1. Religious alienation of non-vegetarian diet. Demonization of animal protein. Satvik food.
2. Education. Lack of awareness of importance of protein.
3. High intake of carb-rich food to satisfy hunger with minimum cost.
4. Poverty
5. Family dietary habits. Indian parents think having 2 plates of rice is healtier than 2 eggs.

This is 110% true, aur agar apni aage ki generations ko achchi genetics deni hai, to achcha khana consume karna padega that is protein rich diet and lifestyle changes bhi karne padenge!
Over the time this has now become a genetic issue because of epigenetics.
Yeah just look at indian Americans they look better more muscles mass and taller than mainland indian
@parthkhanolkar7916 not just an Indian raised abroad but even people from Punjab, Haryana and Western UP are tall and strong because of their mutation in the gene which enables them to digest milk easily. And milk is a complete source of protein. That's the reason why most athletes are from those regions.
8:41 eating a lot of pulses if not an effective way to gain muscle mass. its not just about the protein but also about the bioavailability of the protein source. eggs have more high quality protein and are more readily absorbed than that found in plant based sources. this is why one should follow a healthy blend of both

There are mainly two reasons for India being protein deficient ÷
1)Hinduism which preaches vegetarianism
2)Poverty- most Indians can't afford to eat meat or fish everyday. Even eggs and dairy are expensive for many Indians.
Solution -The government needs to reduce the price of meat/eggs/dairy, so that we can afford them.
Protein has nothing to do with vegetarianism.
We have to change our food habits.
overconsumption of rice and wheat is the major problem.
We have to include multigrain food items in our diet.

Most of the Haryanvis, Punjabis, Rajasthanis and Gujaratis are vegetarian but protein deficiency is not a big problem for them. On the other hand, most of the people from Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha are non-vegetarian but protein deficiency is a big problem for them.
And digestive systems of humans and vegetarian animals are very similar.

Protein is costliest macronutrients. Protein cost in India is at least Rs 2 per gram. It translates to Rs 100 per day for average 60 kg person. if a family have four members, cost of protein will be Rs 12000 per month which is higher than average wage. There is no way that India's protein consumption can be increased before average income rise. Protein is a macronutrient and not a micronutrient.

I am quite surprised that Sub-Saharan africa is better than us when it comes to protein intake even after being poor. And why our government is paying any good attention in nutrition when it's the most important aspect of health.
It's in their genetics, not due to larger protein intake. They starve for food, so forget about getting sufficient protein. Thing is, even with meagre protein, they are able to build muscles
@@Global-Netizen nope. Their diet is still better than us. Im talking about west africans like cameroon, nigeria, senegal, et . The countries that really starve like congo or burundi are very short, skinny and malnourished.
@@parthkhanolkar7916 Acha, What's special about their diet, that better than us? What they generally eat?

Protein is a macronutrient not a micronutrient.
Price of quality protein rich food weather it is vegetarian or non vegetarian is increasing day by day which needs to be addressed by the government.
I think we should exclude people of north-east from this list of protein deficient people. They consume plenty of meat everyday, especially the tribals who hunt and consume meat and fulfill their daily protein requirements.
This list should only be applicable to the people of north india who are in general, vegetarians and avoid eating meat out of religious reasons.
Furthermore, folks from punjab and haryana shouldn't be counted as well since they mostly have an agriculturist background and depend on milk and dairy substitutes to fulfill their protein requirements essential for developing a good muscle mass.
Protein deficiency should be prevalent mostly within those communities which neither consume meat nor milk or dairy products to fulfill their daily protein requirements, such groups of people are highly depended on rice, wheat, lentils and loads of oily and unhealthy street foods.
Meanwhile, rampant poverty is also one of the many reasons behind protein deficiency in India, but religious reasons can't be completely neglected, cuz we have some festivals wherein people fast for nearly a week avoiding even the consumption of garlic and onion let alone meat.
It's high time indians should make changes in their eating and consumption habits, cuz lack of protein would only result in poor muscle mass and overall development of the body.
I think you should read first rather than writing this comment literally 80% of Indian population do not meet their protein need and 90% of them are not even aware of protein so it's applicable to whole nation rather than pinpointing to one region specifically

Most people are vegan or vegetarian which is main cause of protein deficiency in India. Eat more meat espicially chicken, beef and mutton with eggs will be more balanced diet
Adesh Sir, my question is
What is the accurate way to calculate need of Protein in am individual ❓
My views on Reason behind it,
Lack of farming of all pulses category under food grains.
Best is to consume 1g protein per kg weight.
For example, a 60 kg person can take 60 g of protein daily.
Easy ways are to consume soya chunks (80 - 100 gm), eggs and may be plant based protein powder.

The bioavailability of many vegetarian protein sources are significantly lower than animal products. Because of that not all the protein contained in them gets used by the body.
Soya has 85-90% bioavailability.
Not true for lentils and other legumes anyways
Government should provide Soya chunks and eggs in Ration Shops to combat Protein Deficiency
Vegeterian diet is not protein deficient but a complete diet without any sin in it also the digestive system works well in vegeterian diets.

Yes it's a problem. Apart from cultural essues as a population we can't afford good nutritious food because of our economic conditions.
what about the fact that even rich families are protein deficient? It just goes to show that knowledge is also a problem.
@@Aurora-bv1ys bhaisahab in our locality protine rich diet is cheap and easily available, mainly red meats like beef 100 per kg and pork 200 per kg. These are one of the best source of protein.. but Indians consume carb rich craps too much even rich ones too😂😂😂😂
@@Aurora-bv1ysmost rich families are gujjus. And they have a really terrible diet. Oily high carb vegeterian food with zero protein. But generally many rich people have good protein intake, and their children end up tall. Take ronit roys son for example or sachin tendulkars son. Both are much taller than their parents
@@parthkhanolkar7916 I think a caloric surplus has more to do with height than it is with Protein. As for the height increase, I would argue that this trend of children outgrowning parents has more to with the wealth and caloric surplus. It's a common trend in families that migrated to developed countries aswell. I would say I had a protein deficient diet yet I grew to 6'1, granted my genetics also played a part.
