hey so I just wanted to address some of comments I'm seeing: 1. obviously I did not watch every episode of the show and take meticulous notes for a 15 minute video. I watched about 30 episodes total, mostly the ones that had the most to do with BBT lore. I missed the part where the dad DOES have an affair, I focused more on the part where SHeldon thinks he walks in on it. 2. Growing up in the midwest in the 90s myself, I don't think of the mom as SUPER religious until the very end of the show when she gets SUPER bible thumper. Her demanding Georgie get married at 17 or worrying about greed or peanut butter jelly or whatever, that didn't seem THAT weird to me given the context. I grew up in a time when parents were not letting their kids read Harry Potter or LOTR because of Satanic messages lmao. Perhaps this is a generational thing. 3. The "hamburger" joke and the "knows a lot about seals and hates polyester" jokes were written by someone with autism. 4. If you like the show... that's fine? Why do you care if I thought it was dumb? 5. some people are saying this video was uncharacteristically harsh, but I specifically went back and watched my old PLL, Vampire Diaries, and Riverdale videos and made it along the same lines. Maybe I've softened up in recent years but it didnt' really seem any different to me when I was making it.
I think Sheldon has such a negative perception of his dad as an adult because it was his mom that was always coddling him, and his dad just treated him as any of his other siblings, not giving him any special attention
Precisely, as overbearing as Mary can be, Sheldon adores her, and would never disrespect her. He wasn't present to see her holding hands with Pastor Rob, and blames his dad entirely for their crumbling marriage. Similarly, he respects Connie as well, and doesn't recognise that her openly disrespecting George to his face merely weakens family bonds.
Not gonna lie, despite how infuriating Sheldon can be in this show, the show does display how he grew up to be the man he became. But his family members are pretty charming (and also infuriating at times) on their own way. I won't deny, the finale made me cry so much.
I cried at all 3 last episodes Spoiler alert👇⚠️ My grandpas funeral is in a few days so when Sheldon’s dad died it got emotional for me my mom and dad even if this wasn’t happening I think it’s fine to cry at a show especially such a good one
Sheldon says what he does because he wrongly believed his dad was a drunk because he had a beer every evening. He wrongly believed his dad had cheated because sheldon didn’t know it was his mom wearing a wig and costume. I think the point Sheldon makes in the final episode is that he realizes he had misconceptions about his dad.
Its funny that they dont want Sheldon to be autistic because they're afraid of the backlash of making fun of him, but they don't care about making fun of Indian Raj or Jewish Howard.
The show is extremely different from its predecessor even sheldon is a better character here, just think of it as Chuck lorre learning from his mistakes
Also, as I recall, Jim Parsons said in an interview that *he* interpreted and played Sheldon as autistic. I think it's perfectly fine to make fun of Sheldon for the quirks that might be enhanced or accentuated by his autism, but which aren't inherent features of it, and which he could choose to work on if he wanted to. Autistic people aren't all haughty, arrogant, and condescending, for example, and some do genuinely care about other people's feelings.
As the show went on, it became less about a child prodigy, and more about his grandma juggling multiple boyfriends, while operating an illegal gambling den, his brother dropping out of school and getting an older woman pregnant, or his parents contemplating emotional extra marital affairs. Oh, and his more emotionally intelligent, neglected twin sister.
I’ve met ten thousand autistic kids at school over the years; they’re not geniuses, they’re average intelligence but they think they are geniuses! (They’re the worst!)
For me the whole hating on his dad thing was explained in the funeral episode. Sheldon narrates that he always thought about the negatives of his father until he had kids
@@Valkbgbut it's more than just this. If you watch the whole show they explain it often. Drop hints and pretty clear at times. Like the dad cheating. Then on top of it what was said in the finale it's not a cop out.
@@Magdalena8008s No, it's just a cop out. It's very obvious from BBT he had a difficult childhood. Everything in the prequel was intentionally soften for the sitcom format.
It makes sense that Sheldon's childhood is nothing like he described it in the parent show. His dad is a caring family man, and not an abusive, cheating drunk. The Sheldon narrating is a father himself, and is more mature than he was before.
"Really they just know a lot about seals and they hate polyester" As an autistic guy who knows a lot about the Riddler and avoids microfiber cloths like the plague, yeah, you hit the nail on the head
@@healthycheese8882they're those cleaning cloths that are really good at picking up dust, not always great at absorbing water, and unbearably static-y if you put them in the dryer
"Well, there's five billion people in the world, and you're the perfect mom for me. What are the odds of that?" I love how Sheldon gives Mary faith, despite not believing in God himself.
There was literally a line where he admits that he only focused on his father’s shortcoming and that he might not have been the best kid, that explains the reason why he only talked crap about his dad on BBT
Yeah, Sheldon spends most of Big Bang Theory crapping on Leonard, his best friend, over trivial petty nonsense. Of course he extended that same attitude to his family.
are you kidding? Young sheldon was the greatest spin-off ever. not only did it have good consistency with the original show but it manages to fit in references from TBBT. It also has such an interesting storyline for every episode.
young sheldon is the best spinoff and not to mention but he said that “these are arnt good lessons” when this show is more targeted with family drama for older audiences
Its a mid spinoff💀 the glazing is crazy, There are many better spinoffs, it barely any consistency with TBBT and you said “every episode” when there are episodes with boring plots
I think it makes sense that even when Sheldon has a perfect memory, he's perceiving the information differently. Young Sheldon has showed that his father isn't bad at all, but, as a kid you do see things differently + he didn't see all of the scenes that were showed in the episodes so he didn't have the full picture
I honestly think you would love BBT if you loved young Sheldon. the way he addresses BBT at the start really annoyed me since I am a huge fan of the show, but I also understand that its his opinion and who am I to change it.
And part of that.. a family... is a parent's role in the family... is to teach morals. The goal of the story doesn't have to be to teach morals, but that is the archetype of that character. If you're going to not adhere to that, then you need to explain it. It misses the nuance of valuing other people's perspectives and teaching a kid struggling with comprehending things like what is 'right', what actually matters to a society. The reality is they gloss over all that nuance because... it would take more skill to write that and they aren't here for that. They just want quick jokes that high light sheldon's incapacity to fit in, they don't want to actually try to address him fitting in a funny way. they just want to point at it. Thats what big bang theory did. They dont actually ever address character flows and have them grow, they just vaguely motion to it and go "Look, its different, please laugh now." because its much more harder to have something be funny AND express meaningful character growth.
It’s the perfect representation of the “nuclear family” a macho Texan father that actually has mental problem and could benefit from therapy, a religious previous stay at home mom who wants a more exciting life, a older brother who protects his family and has to mature prematurely due to his father dying, a edgy middle child and a coddled younger son, (and yes missy is older than Sheldon by like a minute I think )
I am Young Sheldon's biggest hater I hate the way that he walks, the way that he talks, I hate the way that he dresses, if there's one Young Sheldon hater I am one of them, If there's no Young Sheldon hater, I am not on this earth.
Sheldon having an eidetic memory doesn't preclude him perceiving things differently than someone else might. Two people can experience the same event while remembering it differently.
Yeah, on top of eidetic memory not really being a thing, he is still someone with trouble to understand others so it's understanding that something bad for Sheldon might not actually be that bad. For example when Leonard was going to move with Penny, for Sheldon that was the end of the world. For most people that is just expected, they are getting married, they are going to live together but for Sheldon that wasn't simple and was actually pretty bad for him.
@@lockytonight5110 There's no plothole. Everything is there. They just didn't adapt 1:1 because that wouldn't be a comedy sitcom, would be a drama. Also Alex admit that he didn't watched everything and he missed a LOT of things that make some of his critics invalid like Sheldon's dad indeed having an affair.
Mary Cooper was super religious the whole series. She worked in a church, they went to church every Sunday, it's the plot line of countless episodes - she even has a crush on Pastor Rob. It's kind of the base of her character. She also got super religious during complications with Missy's birth and made a promise to God. It was definitely not randomly at the end after George died that's just when she pushed the baptism.
@@paulsoldner9500I guess that depends a lot on what you‘re used to, how people around you live out their religion etc. For me, as someone who grew up in a non religious house hold and who‘s friends also barely ever talked about religion, someone going to church every single sunday is pretty damn religious to me. For other people, that may be perfectly normal, or even just the bare minimum. Point is, whether someone is super religious or not is pretty subjective imo🤷🏻♀️
@@francesscaena6822as a religious person she is not super religious at all, most religious people volunteer at churches and believe in marriage before kids, and Mary explains that Mary and George got pregnant with Georgie they were forced to get married so it makes sense she thought that’s what Mandy and Georgie should do
Mate, THIS, i watched lot of trash, good anime bad anime, bad movies, good movies, bad series good series, and i honestly try, i cant say without trying "that's bad". But riverdale and one piece, gosh, are unbearable, cant thing on a worst show, and YS having such heartfelt moments, when you do understand the family and the problem that its to bear with what Sheldon represents, and how you are aware that they love him because thats the only way yo survive the suffer he puts them through. I dont know, honestly i guess he watched a different show.
“His mother doesn’t get super religious until the end of the show?” The woman snapped when she saw her daughter eating a jar of mixed peanut butter and jelly, insisted that her whole family had been taken over by greed. Raided everyone’s things and refused to tell anyone, including her husband, where she put them.
She: - prohibited her kids from watching stuff throughout the show - made Missy and sheldon go to Sunday school - worked and was close to the church leaders - and had a whole plot line where she was disowned from it due to her past I agree it was clearly there for the shows run, but it only worsened with Mary's happiness fading and anger intensifying when George passed away.
You literally played the clip where Amy calls Sheldon out for misportraying the truth. Just cause Sheldon remembers everything, doesnt mean he doesnt misunderstand or embellish what really happened
@@Valkbg nah, sheldon is shown in bit Big Bang and Young, that he misunderstands and embellishes quite a bit. Takes him until season 8 of Big Bang to even properly understand when he's being made fun of.
@@Valkbg Nah man even the earlier seasons of Young Sheldon had sheldon narrating that he had misconceptions and misunderstandings regarding himself and his family especially his father
Yeah if you really see the show you will realise that he misunderstood everything therefore he even misunderstood his father. He thinks that he is the superior being in the world and everyone is inferior to him
i… don’t think you critically thought about the show lmao. talking about how the morals the dad was giving sheldon were dumb compared to other shows yet george’s advice isn’t meant to be all lalala land. it’s real. i love how REAL this show was. dads aren’t perfect but they try. moms aren’t perfect but they try. also if u sit and think about it for a sec, sheldon perceives his father as bad and evil in TBBT because he genuinely could not process his fathers death to the point where his mind turned his father into someone to hate rather than to mourn in order to cope with the grief of losing his dad. yes everyone can have their own opinions but this feels like a shitty review from someone who jumped into the show and didn’t care much about the true meaning and understanding of its genuine and raw nature.
I think his hatred for TBBT blinded him from seeing anything good of YS bc "if it's the same character then it should suck" when in reality it's not like that. I despise TBBT with all my heart, I REALLY hate it. But I love YS. Because I know and have in mind that those are different shows.
I watched this show and young Sheldon is so good and heartfelt, George’s death was heartbreaking I cried the whole funeral episode it hit me what a show and just a great cast of characters although I hate Sheldon himself he’s such a little brat
about the "moral" that Sheldon's dad passes on, its kinda accurate to what everyone says to you when ur autistic... or worse... they'd say you should do the "right thing" but NO ONE likes or supports you when you do, which can be very confusing for an autistic person... at least George told him how the real world works so he could adjust his expectations. Also, the eidetic memory is compatible with HIS perception of events, which does not include emotional and social nuances, bc Sheldon doesn't notice those, so having an eidetic memory does not overpass the psychological bias in anyone's memories. It still makes a lot of sense that his mom's religion and dad's way of dealing with things negatively impacted him more dramatically than it would an allistic person, bc autistic ppl process the world and the human interactions differently. Tbh the only thing in ur video I could relate or make sense of was the boomer humour, I got a whole different view and perception of the characters and show as you apparently do, I feel like they evolved a lot from tbbt in so many ways... and young sheldon ended up being one of my fav shows
I love young sheldon because of all the characters being just so relatable. Even sheldon. none of them are perfect, not the grandma or sheldon or missy or anyone, and that's what I love about it.
Also the "moral" argument is a rather normal conversation to have with kids at some point. Sheldon is a little old at this point for it, but a "don't tattle" convo is had with every kid. It s a social nuance that is hard for kids. Sheldon weather he is autistic or not, has to have something explained to him in a way that he doesn't "feel it out" like most people do. You have to make it like an equation. Then he mostly decides what the "cost" of the equation is against what he wants to do or thinks is right. Basically are peoples feelings, and social backlash, of more value then what he wants. Sheldon's dad for all that he doesn't "get" about his son is at least trying to put things to him in a way that he thinks will stick.
@@Username0467 As an autistic person, some parts of Shaun's character lean too heavily onto the trope of "genius" and stuff, but small stuff like his mannerism, speech pattern and stuff can be relatable to me. Like, fidgeting with your hands. The Good Doctor is both good and not good. Luckily there is showing up more representation of autism that isn't "genius prodigy with issues in the social department". But then there's "Music" by Sia, which makes us look like oblivious children... Can't have everything, I suppose.
I actually like George's advice to Sheldon, he knows how smart he is and just decides to give it to him straight; like yeah doing the right thing and being yourself especially when you're younger isn't going to do you many favours, so just try and keep your head down.
I think you don't get sheldon. the "I thought about Star Trek" isn't really a joke. The show explicitly showed that Sheldon used pop culture to make sense of the world around him. In this instance, the death of spok, was the closest he knew in how to deal with grief. Hence, he was thinking about Star Trek. It's not just "hurrdurr refrence"....
The way Sheldon processed his grief was something that honestly really rang true for me. From the fixating on comforting things and media to the replaying situations over and over mentally to the other people not realizing how much is going on internally. I felt that. A lot.
Its the same as how he used Star Wars to process the death of Professor Proton. Having the actor show up dressed like Obi-wan. He also used this character as a means of receiving advice during times where Sheldon was struggling with understanding something important.
@@ArcherFudge Very true! I've been there myself where some shows and anime (like JJBA) helped me process things like my grandparents passing. I think sometimes people forget that part of the point of art/media is to help process and explore different emotions and explore different perspectives, which is probably part of why art/media can be helpful and comforting for people processing emotions like grief.

Polyester is the worst and rayon can eff off into space but we also need to talk about how spandex needs boundaries because I don't want my clothes hugging me.
I've watched through all of the Big Bang Theory multiple times and I never got the impression that Sheldon hated his dad. He dislikes his siblings if anything.
Bro the only reason G becomes a nice person was because of the spin off show. You need to rematch TBBT and actually pay attention this time as Sheldon describes G as abusive. 😂😂
It’s what he typically does, a lot of times Alex doesn’t really understand sometimes the point of movies or tv shows. For example, Coraline. The dude thought that nothing in Coraline made sense which in fact the movie was written very well and had a very good theme. Alex just didn’t understand the movie so critique it as “there is no theme or lesson in this movie” .
Idk, normally I like his humor and his criticisms are kinda on point, but he just seems SUUUPER pressed about this show for no good reason. Also him continually driving home the point about thinking Sheldon is autistic despite the creators saying he is not autistic just seems really weird and almost rude.
I’m not even one minute in and he’s already insulted TBBT, which is literally my favorite show… I’m going to leave this video now before it goes on, most of the time Alex’s humor is funny or funny enough that I ignore any offense I would otherwise take, but that show is too personal to me so I can’t do that. I’m not going to hate on him, but I’m also not going to subject myself to watching it, no matter what he may say about it. Ironically it’s not even his opinions on Young Sheldon that cause my dislike for this video, but his remarks about TBBT. I’m not going to dislike the video or anything, because his opinions are his and as much as I disagree I still respect that. I don’t actually think anyone is going to leave hate comments here, but who knows. I hope he doesn’t get hate though, and that those that dislike his opinions still respect them enough to politely disagree and move on. Have a great day btw
If you see his pinned comment you will see how much of the show he watched (about 30 episodes). I assume the ones he did see didn't include much religion while others showed it more.
10:24 I just noticed how writers completely abandoned Sheldon's season 10-12 character development here just to make a stupid joke about Amy's birthday and him attending a Zoom meeting while she was in labor. I don't know why they would do that, considering that in season 12 Sheldon would have refused a Nobel Prize if Amy hadn't gotten one for her contributions. So like I don't think he would just turn his back on his wife. Idk maybe I'm overreacting, but that was so out of pocket and unreasonable.
I dont understand the hate around Young Sheldon, really. If you just see it as a separate show from Big Bang Theory, its pretty decent. Its got great writing and plotline which doesnt feel unnecessarily stretched like a lot of other shows from this time. Idk tho, to each their own.
A rare swing and miss for you Alex. You completely missed the point of this show entirely. This show and writing had a lot of heart to, much more so then TBBT. Georgie being the one who had to step up and hold together the family after George's passing and a baby because he saw the sacrifices his dad made to make the family happy. Missy being tough on Sheldon but ultimately having his back when it mattered foreshadowing the reason Penny and Sheldon got along. Sheldon being accepted by his dorm mates in College to play D&D and Mario Kart and Paige being miserable and lonely, showing his growth of social kills and also a little taste of future hangout routines. If you can get passed early Sheldon being a real turd, there is a lot to love about this show.
He “missss the point of things” all the time… because this isn’t a critical review channel, it’s a comedy channel where he rarely watches the whole series and likely doesn’t watch any of the movies more than once. What has actually happened here is that he insulted (COMEDICALLY) a show you are passionate about and your feelings are inexplicably hurt (over a tv show), when he routinely (again, FOR COMEDY) drags nearly everything he watches, including things HE LIKES. 😂
Sheldon never says that he hates his father. He talks about how he felt misunderstood by his father and had a complicated relationship with him. He’s seeing things through the lens of Sheldon. Then as the viewer we are able to see it through a “normal” lens.
Nice thing about the series was how unimportant Sheldon became. He was basically a side-kick in his show. His plots were stupid while the focus was on the loveable other family member.
Seconded, towards the middle, the writers seemed to realise this, to the point that Sheldon was absent from some episodes, despite being the title character. Georgie, his older brother, received the most character development.
I was shocked when I actually enjoyed this show as long as Sheldon wasn’t in it😂 Seems like a lot of people felt that way, because many people have made reels slicing the show apart to just scenes that include the family, not Sheldon.
I do believe that’s true. I don’t hate Sheldon though as some people do. I don’t think he was as annoying as people make him out to be. At least from the seven season of Young Sheldon I watched.
I genuinely don't see how the kid in Young Sheldon could become the adult in Big Bang Theory. There are so many things that the character *should* have learned from and did for a while that are completely forgotten by the time of the show
Plus, you must keep in mind that at least 6 years pass between young sheldon and tbbt, all years in which he was pretty much alone. *A lot* can change in a person in this situation.
Honestly surprised that that was your take on it. I found it extremely good, it is completely different from TBBT in a very positive way, focusing on the family dynamics instead of trying to make bad nerd culture jokes. The cast is great, it was wonderful watching them grow up together, even a side character like Paige who was only in 9 (!!) episodes was wonderful and beloved. If TBBT was like a 3, Young Sheldon was easy 8 for me. It was funny, emotional, dramatic, and managed to balance it all fantastically. I will miss it but I'm happy they told their story and ended when it was time. It is quite unfair that you focused on stuff from season one, neglecting all the character development we see throughout the years. I get it that today on the internet Hate sells much better than Love, heck, even this comment is feeding into the algorithm, but still, we expected better from you.
I fully agree! Even if the first season seemed rough at the beginning, looking back it set things up well with huge plans for character development and spectacular focus on family and community.
Agreed. It feels like he's just hating on it for no reason. Trying to make it seem like it's just as annoying as TBBT even though they're very different??? Like did he ACTUALLY watch the whole show or just hand picked a few episodes? He never even mentioned Meemaw and she was a big part of the show too.
Agree!!! I think that this show is fantastic I never watched TBBT and I probably never will but Young Sheldon was such a good show. I agree with everything you said. I fell in love with all the characters even with their flaws. I still loved Sheldon, Missy, Georgie, Mandy, Mary, George, Paige, CeCe, Mee maw and more.
@almogdov "expected better from you" bc he doesn't like your favorite sitcom is an absolutely wild take Alex makes short form content, he's not gonna watch the whole series for a 15 minute video lol
How dare you, I’ve gone through some emotional growth with this show ESPECIALLY the last three episodes. PS I love your videos keep making me smile 😂😂😂
It's clear he didn't watch the show since he thinks Sheldon is the main character, thinks Mary wasn't mad religious til George dies, thinks the funniest moments had something to do with Sheldon, AND NEVER BROUGHT UP MEEMAW
damn, ik this guy says the most infuriating stuff abt tv shows people like for content without actually watching the full thing and just being generally wrong about some stuff, but going to the comments and saying "why do you care if i thought this content is dumb?" as a response to people criticizing your content is crazy, right after ending the video with "you can like garbage, but the thing you guys like is garbage" bro is so insensitive when it comes to the content people enjoy and making sweeping statements without understanding the full narrative, this is just IGN journalism at this point like please just chill with what you say.
As much as he is overly critical, and has a tendancy to focus on the bad, he also kinda wouldn't have a career if he didn't. It's just like that monologue in the end of ratatouille. "We [critics] thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. " I think those comments you're talking about are his version of "The bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. " As long as people aren't freaking out, then why do you care is a bit of a dismissive statement. I don't expect him to engage in debates down here with us peasants, but anyone offering a legit critique of his critique shouldn't be dismissed that way. Something I see a lot is that places like this aren't where you go for a proper review of that movie, but that defence only takes you so far. The only time I remember seeing it crossed was Cinemasins everything wrong with Captain America: First Avenger. In one scene, Steve Rogers pre superpowers jumps on a dummy grenade believing it was real, so as to save the lives of the team he's on. Cinemasins sinned that because "don't give the serum to someone who will get himself killed at the first grenade, no one was in range anyway, that was stupid". That was a ridiculous thing to say. For one, giving someone who's willing to sacrifice themselves the maximum chance of survival seems smart to me, for two, literally every character in that scene was in range as far as I know, for three, A Canadian soldier did that in the battle of hong kong, WWII, and is now remembered as a war hero, and he was far from the only one. There was a real possibility veterans saw that video, potentially even some with grenade related experiences.
Meemaw is iconic and George Cooper is such a great dad character - charming, trying his best for his kids and family, totally real and with his own flaws. His scenes with Missy - be still my heart, best girl dad character ever!
One of my favorites is Billy, the Blue Ranger from _Saban's Power Rangers_ (2017 film). He says he's on the spectrum, but the annoying, dorky mannerisms end after a few minutes and we see the true nature of his character: he's so lonely and desperate for friends that he's willing to sacrifice himself for the other Rangers, who were the closest thing to friends he's had. And that also makes him the first to attain his Ranger form because in the movie, "morphing" requires you to sync up with your teammates. This in an era when it was still commonly believed that autistic people "lack empathy".

I never got the Big Bang Theory hate. I have a sister that's addicted to actual trash TV. Having heard snippets of The Kardashians, Vanderpump Rules, Below Decks, Southern Comfort and Real Housewives coming from upstairs, some one calling Young Sheldon trash is doubly absurd to me.
You've never had a normie aunt say you remind her of Sheldon because you talk about science things, and insist you watch Big Bang together because "It's totally you!"
Yeah it’s clear he watched the first season and then jumped to finale. Missed all the part about Georgie and the baby and how church treats Mary. It certainly isn’t the best show ever, it was a decent show. I liked it. Taste is subjective but this show certainly doesn’t deserve to be called trash.
Crazy to assume this is a review channel lmao. At least to me this has always been an entertainment channel, not where you get actual serious reviews. But I guess maybe I'm misinterpreting 🤷♀️
Young Sheldon is my favourite web series and perhaps the only one I've finished. I cried my eyes out watching the finale. It is really close to my heart and I still can't believe it's over.
Big Bang theory was refreshing when it first came out. I was in college and I remember thinking finally a show thats not about popular extremely good looking people. They have "niche" humor and I loved it.
You know, the Star Trek 2 kind of makes sense. Spock dies in that movie. It's very emotional. Now if he said Star Trek 4, then you could be like "what does whales have to do with anything?"
I owe a lot to Big Bang Theory. I was diagnosed aspergers as a kid and people always compared my behaviour to Sheldon. I HATED Sheldon's character and this horrified me, and led me to do a lot of work on myself.
Nah Young Sheldon really explained why Sheldon acted the way he did in TBBT and if he references something differently in the Big Bang theory versus the prequel, then he’s probably exaggerating like we all do when we think about our childhood.
I've never understood the hate that laugh tracks get. Some of the greatest, most popular sitcoms have used it and yet every time a sitcom chooses to go that route people treat it like this is the first show to ever do this. I'm fine with people disliking the series but I hate the main reason that people complain "laugh track = bad". I treat laugh tracks like a long running sitcom trope and embrace it. At a certain point you just stop noticing it.
You don't have to agree, but I think it's because, as the other person said, it tells you when to laugh, even if not all jokes are going to be funny to everyone, even those that enjoy the series. I personally think it's better to make jokes and just let them be, amd those who laugh do laugh, and then others laugh at another joke. No forcing in a laugh track to tell you you were supposed to think it was funny. A second reason is that it can easily disrupt the flow of dialogue and feel unnatural. There's often unnatural pauses. But, there is some nostalgic charm to old shows with laugh tracks. It's cheesy, is all.
@@BanditLeader The problem with this take is, if something isn't funny than you won't laugh. A laugh track doesn't change that and if somehow it did than who cares because the end goal is to laugh. The problem is, people don't understand the purpose of a laugh track. You see, not every funny joke leaves you gut busted. You might find it funny but not doubled over on the floor funny. That situation is when a laugh track comes in clutch. Now when a joke doesn't get the exact kind of response they are looking for they can pop the audio track and get whatever they need. They have been using laugh tracks since I believe 50's and between than and now there has got to be one laugh track sitcom you've loved. If that's the case the whole argument falls out the window because this means, a laugh track had no effect on your enjoying that sitcom. That leaves the writing and the acting as the reason for a sitcom being good or bad. This is why I said I hate when the biggest argument for disliking a series is (laugh track = bad).
This video just convinced me that Alex has seen very little of TBBT and Young Sheldon. He literally just threw in information from the numerous articles going around since the show ended. This was phoned in.
Yup, same here. I understand having different opinions and if he didn't care for the show then okay, but this one seems like he was taking it rather personal or something. Weird.
No more personal than the other videos he makes. Might just feel more personal to you if it's a show that you like. But if there's any personal aspect to it, then I could see it being the intentional lack of representation for people with mental illnesses (which, given the massive overkill flood of representation for blacks and females, there's really no excuse).
This video made me realize Sheldon cooper is from Galveston (where I was raised). There’s only one high school, and let me tell you, his dad getting fired for telling that some of the kids were cheating or something…completely tracks. 😅

Honestly, Young Sheldon is one of those special shows out there. One that focuses on the fun dynamic between family members who love each other ( arguably except for Missy towards the end ), and has a strong moral core with the most wholesome moments on TV. It was the season 1 episode when George got his first heart attack and Sheldon, an atheist, prays for his father just in case, that really sold me on the show. That moment proved that YS was willing to be more than a "Let's laugh at this characature over and over again", and it never stopped being that show across its seven seasons. It's characters are so fun to be around, and Sheldon himself is handled so well because of how he works off of everyone else. It is a show that just works! The differences between YS and BBT cannon don't really matter because YS does what it needs to do to be an actually good show. Instead of hyperfixating on everything BBT established, it took what worked and left behind what didn't. If it went with the versions of George, Meemaw, and Missy from BBT, we would have gotten a less interesting and memorable set of characters and a worse show. And that's the best kind of creative liberty a show can take.
Bizarre take, dude. Have you no experience with betrayal? It seeps backwards and poisons every memory (even if you are remembering things perfectly). Sheldon thinks his father cheated. So all those memories of him being a great guy are gonna just be hateful to him. Because betrayal is like that.
I mean, Sheldon takes EVERYTHING seriously… the dude has an enemies list, of course he would feel super betrayed if the thought his dad was cheating on his beloved mommy
You know, sometimes people say they have a great memory of something but in the end it's their brains tricking them to think they remember sth 100% when they not.
@@RandomIrishGuy That makes a little more sense since it seems like he talks about a lot of science things (from what I have seen/heard, I haven't watched the YS or TBBT).

hey so I just wanted to address some of comments I'm seeing:
1. obviously I did not watch every episode of the show and take meticulous notes for a 15 minute video. I watched about 30 episodes total, mostly the ones
that had the most to do with BBT lore. I missed the part where the dad DOES have an affair, I focused more on the part where SHeldon thinks he walks in on it.
2. Growing up in the midwest in the 90s myself, I don't think of the mom as SUPER religious until the very end of the show when she gets SUPER bible thumper. Her
demanding Georgie get married at 17 or worrying about greed or peanut butter jelly or whatever, that didn't seem THAT weird to me given the context.
5. some people are saying this video was uncharacteristically harsh, but I specifically went back and watched my old PLL, Vampire Diaries, and Riverdale videos
and made it along the same lines.

During the funeral, she expressed anger towards George. The lines from TBBT hit different 😢

Wait wait if his dad "cheating" was just him with his wife in a wig then why does Mary repeatedly call him a cheating asshole in TBBT??

Its funny that they dont want Sheldon to be autistic because they're afraid of the backlash of making fun of him, but they don't care about making fun of Indian Raj or Jewish Howard.
Or women.
It's sad because the actor is actually really good at playing an autistic character if the writers actually would just give him a chance.
The show is extremely different from its predecessor even sheldon is a better character here, just think of it as Chuck lorre learning from his mistakes
I mean it's Chuck Lorre
It’s because the point of the show is also about the other characters not just Sheldon.

I don’t think young Sheldon is supposed to be teaching you moral lessons, it’s just a reflection of a family life
And part of that.. a family... is a parent's role in the family... is to teach morals.

For most people that is just expected, they are getting married, they are going to live together but for Sheldon that wasn't simple and was actually pretty bad for him.

about the "moral" that Sheldon's dad passes on, its kinda accurate to what everyone says to you when ur autistic... or worse... they'd say you should do the "right thing" but NO ONE likes or supports you when you do, which can be very confusing for an autistic person... at least George told him how the real world works so he could adjust his expectations. Tbh the only thing in ur video I could relate or make sense of was the boomer humour, I got a whole different view and perception of the characters and show as you apparently do, I feel like they evolved a lot from tbbt in so many ways... and young sheldon ended up being one of my fav shows
I was looking for this comment, so I didn’t have to say everything you just said.

I read the title and physically said ‘EXCUSE ME?!’ really loudly 😭

I’m so sad though bc it’s not available to watch where I live anymore 😭 I was halfway through watching and it disappeared
Bro definitely didn’t watch the whole series
Ultimately, it comes to personal opinion. Alex shared his, now you've shared yours. Maybe be less rude next time.
How were they rude?
@@orangebeagle3068 are you talking to me?
@@kcbh24pretty sure, and i have the same question
Everybody else had a better story than Sheldon himself
Seconded, towards the middle, the writers seemed to realise this, to the point that Sheldon was absent from some episodes, despite being the title character. Georgie, his older brother, received the most character development.
My farts are better than Alex’s farts 💨
I was shocked when I actually enjoyed this show as long as Sheldon wasn’t in it😂 Seems like a lot of people felt that way, because many people have made reels slicing the show apart to just scenes that include the family, not Sheldon.
I do believe that’s true. I don’t hate Sheldon though as some people do. I don’t think he was as annoying as people make him out to be. At least from the seven season of Young Sheldon I watched.
seriously i stayed watching for everyone elses story line. I always watched sheldons scenes at 2x speed
I genuinely don't see how the kid in Young Sheldon could become the adult in Big Bang Theory. There are so many things that the character *should* have learned from and did for a while that are completely forgotten by the time of the show
Well he was learning but his father's dead shook him so much he reverted into early big bang theory Sheldon to deal with the loss
I agree. I love this show.
I still loved Sheldon, Missy, Georgie, Mandy, Mary, George, Paige, CeCe, Mee maw and more.

bro is so insensitive when it comes to the content people enjoy and making sweeping statements without understanding the full narrative, this is just IGN journalism at this point
like please just chill with what you say.

Abed from Community was actually not that bad of a representation, he was into movie making but he wasn't good at it especially to a genius degree
Abed one of the best representation out there, he was written by an autistic writer who also wrote Rick and Morty.
Community is my all time favorite show and yeah I agree Abed is the perfect representation imo

You know, the Star Trek 2 kind of makes sense. Spock dies in that movie. It's very emotional. Now if he said Star Trek 4, then you could be like "what does whales have to do with anything?"
There's a Big Bang Theory episode where Sheldon says Star Trek 4 was in-arguably the best. Raj says Wrath of Khan was.
What about when Sheldon and his siblings stole Meemaw's car to drive to the hospital? That was actually adorable 😂
Laugh track = bad because it tells you when to laugh, even if the scene isn't even funny.
@@iclynnx check my response to the other person. That makes it so I don't have to repeat myself.
@supersizesenpai but it is bad. It's absolutely needless. At best you laugh with it and at worst it's an interruption

No more personal than the other videos he makes. Might just feel more personal to you if it's a show that you like.

It’s like that for you. Not for everyone. 🤦🏾♀️
@@jacforswear18 it's pretty well documented. If it's not like that for you, you are in a minority.
