Hasn't Ed said that he was in the Marines and not the Air Force, and that he wasn't a Top Gun pilot but the equivalent in the Marines. I believe it's called Marine Corps Aviator.

Did you listen to the podcast? He was in the Marines and was inviting to Top Gun and graduated. He became an instructor as well. Pretty much a real life Tom Cruise lol.
