    I think Barry's Budget Banquet sounds straight Stonkin. I also think that this would help encourage a lot of young men and women in collage and/or starting off on their own to get in the kitchen and cooking with a budget.

      ...Or did you mean college?

    • @Mikeey1
      @Mikeey1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think it needs to be changed a bit though. It's all well and good saying the mint costs 5p and the bacon cost 10p etc but you have to buy the whole pack, you can't buy them individually. So if you're not used to cooking and on a tight budget, you're not likely to be in a position to use up the rest of the ingredients.
      Would be cool if it was food "sets" or something, where Barry spent say £5 and had to make 5 meals out of it and also had to use up all of the perishable ingredients that aren't freezable.

    • @L83467
      @L83467 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mikeey1 yeah, like some things that you would use and buy anyway i dont think should be counted in their entirety, like oil or pasta and stuff. but using only 1/10 of the more expensive cheese only ups the cost of the dish a little bit but it makes every other dish that you would cook more expensive

      I work in the food industry (we print labels for food packaging) and we noticed over the years that with every recession, people would buy more canned food and jars instead of fresh produce. During the start of COVID last year, we noticed the same - people preferring canned food over potentially-contaminated fresh foods. Basically, people tend to eat less healthy. Thing is, a great deal of the economy is tied to food and the moment people start to eat cheap, it means they mostly eat stuff that has been imported so they further damage local economy.

    I've been trying to experiment a lot more in the kitchen thanks to you and your approach towards cooking. For example, just the other day I made some Chicken Alfredo, something I never cooked before, without using a recipe, I just put stuff in I thought would work and it was actually delicious.

    It's a lot like a recipe I used to do, "riz et petits pois", that's why I would say that it would also be very good with rice.
    There was no bacon in my recipe, but it's a great addition. Bacon is always a great addition ! 👍 😁

    I didn’t even plant the mint in my garden …catnip just popped up and took over my entire yard on its own and I love it because I have five cats and if they’re happy I’m happy ha ha 😅

    Love these meals, I live in a budget bit hard on sometimes. Also most shops do cheaper versions of these ingredients

    Budget cooking vids are a great idea! I make something similar all the time. I use pesto in mine, as well.

    Looks enough for two, will def try that! A spork is what you need, round shovel = spork

    Save back about a 3rd of a mug of the pasta water to add to the pan with the pasta,it'll de-glaze the pan slightly adding more of the bacon and mint flavour then add the cheese and with the starchy water it'll make a light creamy sauce to coat the pasta.

    I usually make farfalle pasta with bacon bits, shredded tuna or chicken, peas, shredded carrots and a little mayo then chilled in the fridge. Never tried the mint, will have to give that a shot.

    I'll replace the mint with cilantro (for I hate mint but love cilantro) and the grana padano for something cheaper and enjoy this meal somewhere this week, already got the lemon, salt and pepper, bread and pasta in the cupboard anyway. Thanks for the recipe, long live budget cooking!

    Looks tasty! Perhaps you could create "Barry Lewis Yard work Themed Cultery" - a shovel could be one item of the set, or even two shovels, one more of a flower bed shovel, the other more of a snow shovel... but all designed to be used for eating with of course.

    Just my 5 cents: Cheap & delicous... is always a good series for a Cooking channel, isnt it, especially in theese challenging times.

    Would love to see you do this, but eco friendly (no non recyclable packaging). So many budget ingredients don't have recyclable plastics.

    Barry can you please do another Lamington video since it's been 10 years since you did the older one. Could even mix it up with Jam inside or strawberry flavored Lamingtons. Keep up the great work.

    Great idea great episode my man! You could have found about 12p for an egg and you could almost make a carbonara style thing by mixing it in on a very low heat at the end. Great stuff though mate!
