The 2ft Croque Monsteur

- Take a croque monsieur, but make it bigger with a 2 foot long baguette and a little croque madame egg based twist on top... and yep, you've got yourself the croque monsteur! A 3 cheese, mustard lined, ham packed, sauce drenched baguette which was an absolute joy to make! I mean look at the facial expression in my thumbnail, outstanding lip biting ability, but at it's true core a really delicious recipe, scale it down or make it for a crowd, good luck and enjoy!

Ingredients list:
1 large baguette (that will fit diagonally in your oven)
2tbsp Dijon mustard (approx)
10 slices of good quality ham
300g parmesan, grated
300g cheddar cheese, grated
300g gruyere cheese, grated
For the sauce
2tbsp butter
3tbsp plain flour
300ml milk
1tbsp thyme or rosemary, chopped fine (optional)
1tbsp fresh cracked pepper
6 fried eggs to top (optional)
You’ll also need some tin foil to protect your oven

Since the giant croque monsieur has eggs on it, that would make it a croque madame. So, I suggest renaming this sandwich to Bride of Croque Monsteur

Omg I’m dying at Barry’s firework commentary for how foreign that is for me. Not only do I live in ‘Murica, where we love using fireworks for any celebratory occasion (and can get them fairly cheap), but I also live in the state of West Virginia, where firearms are legal and well-loved, and you never know if you’re hearing gunshots or fireworks…but you eventually learn that, frankly, it’s not even worth worrying over. 😂 Cultures are fun. 😊

If you use beer instead of milk to make the sauce you can end up with a version of Welsh Rarebit, very nice!

Barry has a good number of simple foods that he hates, that I love.. like fried eggs, or cold cheese. I'm always surprised when he says he hates something because I usually love it so much haha. But, we all have different tastes. I'm sure there's plenty of stuff that I hate that he likes. 🍳🧀🤤
Hi. I have just watched a good video and thought I would share the recipe with you. It is Fried Oreos. Basically you make a thick ish pancake batter and dipped ireo biscuits in it and coat them well. Put oil ina pan and fry them on both sides till golden brown then dredge them in icing sugar. They sound really yummy!

you can get silicone sheets to put in the oven (and on the baking trays) to make it easier to clean. Using foil is not recommend as it reflects the heat and that means the oven has to work harder to keep the temperature

Unfortunately fireworks where I live tend to mean certain members of the community have had a delivery and apparently they light two fireworks to show availability of their product. I'm not sure how true that is though.
I've heard this is the case around me too so might be some truth to it or it could just be an urban legend that actually came true lol
you could also have used food safe rope like the ones you use in hams and other meats so the baguette didnt risk falling apart inside the oven
If you hear fireworks at any other time than bonfire night or new years , it means the drug dealer has had a delivery .
