Thanks for a great video!! Helped a lot!! I usead an old laptop battery pack that had low capacity left. Opened the pack and found that 4 of 6 18650 batteries were in good condition and removed the original battery in the Onyx speaker and replaced it with these 4 used batteries almost according to your video (one 2-pack had one battery inside tho original position and the other outside on the side). The Onyx speaker has now been playing for 11 hours on mid volume without no problems (still playing on..)! So my tip to others, if you have old laptop batteries, check them out, some might be quite good.
Thanks for this! Had a laptop battery kicking around and was able to do this upgrade without ordering new ones. How long does it usually take you to charge?
Excelente video, muy didáctico y sin ningún tipo de música que muchas veces distrae la atención, espero que me funcione en un HK Onix Studio 2, saludos desde Argentina.

Thanks for showing. I'm about to buy a used one of these...now I know how to take it apart on the forehand. I was in fact looking for a battery upgrade as the original has a lousy 5 Hr of playing time before it dies. That would be about the only thing I have to criticize it for.
My harman kardon onix mini speaker had a crash while working, the two internal speakers work well, do not distort and apparently are not damaged, but the two passive radiators or suspensions no longer move and do not emit deep bass, check the passive radiators and they do not They have cracks nor are they detached. The plastic of the casing was not damaged. What could it be? Could it have to do with the sealing of the device?
Thanks for this video. I know I am asking you this question 5 years after you posted it so I hope you will respond. I am going to buy the 4 batteries to do the upgrade, but should I also replace the original battery with a new one or can I use the old one like you did in the video? My old one is completely dead.
I don't use old batteries. Please throw it away. Please use a new battery. The old battery broke down a year later. After removing the battery, I used it normally. I hope you get good results.
I will connect 4 cells as shown but my main battery is dead, as the speaker powers on only when plugged in with the charger. I think I will need its main battery replaced as well, correct? Thanks for the video.
Remove the main battery. And connect four new batteries in parallel. I don't need bms. Even if the main battery is running normally, you need to remove it.
@@many8067 how do I remove the main one? Simply remove it and keep everything else as it is? Charging light is not blinking, therefore I assume it is not charging.
Ok parallel connection! Why did you leave the original battery? Your four batteries are different capacity than the original. If you connect different capacity batteries then it will ruin them. How do you balance them. The original charging system can not do that.
in parallel you can connect any capacity battery without any additional pcb (2000 mah cell+ 6000mah cell= 8000mah cell) in series you can't connect different capacity battery (actually you can but whole battery capacity= capacity of the smallest cell(5000mah then 5000 then 5000 then 2000 then 5000 and whole battery will have 5series connections but only 2000mah capacity )
This is a lithium cell, charge is voltage regulated for 4.2V. parallel connection is the right way to do this since the 1 cell parallel charge doesn't care for capacity, only voltage can not be higher than 4.2V.
many8067 can you please explain the more correct way to do this? Also if you remove the original battery and its cage, you might be able to fit two more new batteries. Even longer life

thank you so much, I have succeeded in following your instructions .. but I have a question 1. I use 18650 3500mah 2 pieces so the total is 7000mah, how long do you think I can fill it up? 2. How do I charge? does it have to be turned on to charge it? because if it's not turned on, the power light doesn't blink
1. The exact time is unknown. However, the device installed with 4 3,200 mah batteries was used for more than 10 hours. 2.2. If you have completed the installation normally, it will be charged with the original charger.
@@many8067 thank you for your quickly respond .. for problem number 2, can I charge the battery if the harman kardon position is not on ?? because if I charge the harman kardon battery when its position is off, the indicator light doesn't blink. Hi ! Why are you recommending now to remove the old battery ? I mean even if it is dead , since the other batteries are soldered in parallel to the original, even if the original is dead we just lose 2500 mah right? Why would it stop working ?
I can't tell you in detail, but the capacity of the old battery is different from the new one, so I think it's going to break down, and it hasn't broken since I removed it.

Hey Jaymar! I did it, but I added 2 more extra batteries for a total of 6-18650's (all connected to the included 26650 battery) & I have ran this speaker fairly loud all day from 8am to about 9pm & it never ran out of power!! It works flawlessly!! I was going to add 2 more 18650's, but the room inside I wasn't sure if I could add more. I didn't notice any sound difference whatsoever. This speaker doesn't use the inside space like some speakers do. Everything component utilizes it's own design in this thing. I got this speaker on "Ebay" for $35 bucks & is a Manufacturer Refurb & it looked & worked like new!! I then also purchased 20 Samsung BN batteries from a guy who refurbs battery packs for tools (Dewalt, Milwaukee & other electronics too, etc.), but he also sells just the battery packs with no outer shell. All new batteries, but they are spot soldered so you have to tear them down into individual batteries. I wanted the batteries for 2 of my old vaping mods with internal 18650's to replace. These are top of the line batteries & would cost a fortune to buy them at retail. So sorry for yakking on, but this works as long as you have all of the original "Circuitry/Safety Chips" in place, it all works out. It won't burn your items or house down!! Very important!! It only draws the power needed & with plenty of "Reserve" from the extra batteries, it has been well worth the price! I also am replacing some other Li-ion devices where my batteries are just not holding a charge like they once did. I just replaced all of my old laptop batteries (battery pack) with the new ones & it holds a charge like new again for that!! If your a DIY'er or watch TH-cam vids to fix things like me, you can bring some old things back to life or add much more run time/life to a product like this. Hope this helps!! Take care....Peace.....!!

Excuse me, there are two plugs on the back of the device. One is normal plug and the other is mini usb. I charge the battery with the normal plug, but I don't know what mini USB is. You have connected four batteries, can the charging module charge four batteries?
Has the circuit of the speaker had a protector for the battery yet? Will making extra batteries like you without the protection circuit be afraid of explosion?
Just discovered this video. I hope I will still get a reply. I found a 19000mah battery online do you think this is okay? I mean to replace my HK OS's old battery?
No. Batteries in parallel like this output the exact same voltage as just one battery. They just add capacity. But I would order a new replacement battery pack and buy cells that match the pack exactly. You shouldn't mix and match old and new batteries in any device.

Hi, your 21700 battery is protected?
Thanks for a great video!! Helped a lot!!
I usead an old laptop battery pack that had low capacity left. Opened the pack and found that 4 of 6 18650 batteries were in good condition and removed the original battery in the Onyx speaker and replaced it with these 4 used batteries almost according to your video (one 2-pack had one battery inside tho original position and the other outside on the side).
The Onyx speaker has now been playing for 11 hours on mid volume without no problems (still playing on..)!
So my tip to others, if you have old laptop batteries, check them out, some might be quite good.
That's a good way, man.
Maybe you can use it longer if you're looking for a larger battery.
Congratulations on a successful battery replacement!

I was in fact looking for a battery upgrade as the original has a lousy 5 Hr of playing time before it dies. That would be about the only thing I have to criticize it for.
I agree with you. I use more than 20 hours after battery upgrades.

I think it's better to have it.
I see that the battery is not removed in your video. How come? Thanks for replying.
You are right.
It's my fault.
We need to use the same battery capacity.
in parallel you can connect any capacity battery without any additional pcb (2000 mah cell+ 6000mah cell= 8000mah cell)
in series you can't connect different capacity battery (actually you can but whole battery capacity= capacity of the smallest cell(5000mah then 5000 then 5000 then 2000 then 5000 and whole battery will have 5series connections but only 2000mah capacity )
This is a lithium cell, charge is voltage regulated for 4.2V. parallel connection is the right way to do this since the 1 cell parallel charge doesn't care for capacity, only voltage can not be higher than 4.2V.

Greg Taylor what is the status now of your speaker? after following the video?

Parallel because you want to keep the voltage the same and increase the amps. If you were to do it in series it would increase the voltage and keep the amps the same.
