- Today I’m potting up my new collection of heirloom chrysanthemums. I’ll walk you through all the chrysanthemum varieties I purchased and how to take cuttings so you can propagate plants for free! Who doesn’t love free plants?!?
Wishing you a beautiful day in the garden,
Kate

I love them, they're like dahlias for cooler zones. Hope they get their time in the limelight after the dahlia craze winds down.
Yes! They are sooooo ready for a comeback. 💕
These are going to be gorgeous 🪴🌺🪴
thanks for sharing. i have never tried mums. enjoyed the video. i am doing some seeds and they look really good.
These will be stunning!
I think they will be! 😊
Excited to see the results 😉 TFS 😊🐰🐰🐰
Just need to install a bunny level Fort Knox system…
Thank you. 💐💚🙃
Thank you for watching! ☺️
Kate, this was so interesting and very knowledgeable! I go to Longwood gardens, in the fall just to see the chrysanthemums. They are so unique and beautiful. I think I am going to invest in a few air looms 👒❣️🪴 Thank you for sharing!
Longwood is on my dream adventure list! I can’t wait to see how these come together.
Thanks for this informative video! I've always wanted to start cuttings with a rooting compound but wasn't sure how. I would have totally dipped in the jar, so glad to know not to!
Oh I’ve definitely dipped it in the jar when I was first learning. 🤦🏼♀️ You are not alone!
Impressive mum collection. They all will be gorgeous I’m sure. In my area they don’t sell many mums until fall and then it’s too late to have them root in enough to survive our winters in zone 6 ☹️💐💚🙃
That’s always when I see them too. These are such a different beast! I’ll need to overwinter them in my garage or see if I can do a hoop house of sorts… they definitely aren’t hardy in my zone.
Such interesting and beautiful mums. I will be interested to see how the propagation turns out. I had heard that honey can be used as a rooting hormone. Have you ever tried it?
Oh interesting. I’ve never heard of that! It would be fun to do a side by side comparison… but I’ll probably try it with something less precious. 🤣
Wow I didn’t know there were those different flowers on chrysanthemums! Where do you find them?❤️❤️❤️
Aren’t they incredible?!? I bought them from the Evergreen Chrysanthemum Association… you can see it at the end of my Tilth Plant Sale video.
Bunnies like humans 😂 and l have one in residence with no plans of moving out.
Thank you! This is so timely for me. I received my heirloom mums plugs from 3 Porch Farm in Georgia a couple of weeks ago. I potted mine up as you did, but have not taken cuttings yet. Because of you, I feel confident taking cuttings. Your videos are so inspirational and helpful. I so wish that I could attend the Park Winters event tomorrow and watch your presentation. Enjoy your special day tomorrow!
Interesting, can’t wait to see the final result. Maybe the bunny has a nest around where you are and she is as frustrated as you getting near her babies😂.
Well it is that time of year… 🤣 it has a little passage over from my neighbor’s garden and I’m trying to think if there’s a way to block it or somehow discourage him. But I’m sure my garden is delicious. 🙄
@@HelloGarden try some “repel all” from Bonide. Organic and totally safe. Smells like garlic and peppermint. I use it to keep the deers away, otherwise they do some serious damage.
So lovely. Beautiful plants.
Thank you! I’m super excited to try something new! And I’m really blown away by the colors and form.
Mums are beautiful flowers. In India, it blooms in winter from November to March. Kate, thank you so much for sharing valuable information on planting cuttings ❤❤
Oh wow! I can’t even imagine how gorgeous it must be to have them bloom all winter. I’m so excited to try my hand with these beauties! 🌸
How lucky are you to find these , gorgeous 🍃🌿
I am SUPER lucky. There’s an online retailer called Kings, but that’s the only other place I’ve seen some of these. Super exciting!
Thanks I will check it out I grew 50 about 15 years ago in pots but they were just plugs from a greenhouse and they were the Belgian, I kept them pinched watered everyday ,they made a gorgeous display but nothing that looks like the ones you have 💚🍃🌿
It’s encouraging to see that even professionals get suck on a decision now and then. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us.
I’d rather hear some ambient garden noises rather than the same musical phrase over and over.
My and my daughter’s birth month flower. I have never tried growing the fancy ones. Mums last forever in a vase!
They’re such a workhorse in an arrangement! I honestly have no idea what to expect from these babies but I’m super excited to find out!
They will be gorgeous! Ugh! The bunny has to go!
Oh that dang bunny. Over it. 🙅🏼♀️
Interesting. I don’t think we have fancy mums here in zone 5b/6a. I only see mums for sale starting in late summer. Yes, a proper potting table would be nice but I like seeing you use what probably a lot of us use, a patio table or side table. Whatever works. I like it that I can relate to your home and garden, although my gardens are not near as extensive or as beautiful as yours. You keep it real and relatable. I always watch your video first as I have my coffee and a piece of toast, thank you for all of the effort it takes to make the videos.
Thank you, Mary! I think it’s super important to be realistic. Also, I definitely have not-so-pretty parts of my garden. But that’s life! Gardening is a journey.
I so understand your struggle with Peter Rabbit! For me it’s the squirrels! They are eating all the new canes on my roses. I find the new growth cut off and then left nibbled on somewhere else in the yard…😤. They’re making me crazy!
