    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE start calling these by their proper name in the video titles - it's a PLUGIN hybrid...not a hybrid. This is not the first video on this channel where you call it a hybrid and it confuses people. Thanks and keep up the otherwise great reviews.

    I have an E 300de on a 69 plate. Out of lockdown I do 500 miles a week with a lot of motorway. I wanted a less polluting car but not full EV. I LOVE the car. I usually get 70-80 mpg on my commute but my weekend driving is mostly electric only so I’m about 80-85 mpg per tank - often get over 900 miles between fill ups. And that’s winter so should be even better in summer, if we get out of lockdown. Fuel economy should be taken over a whole tank not a single journey.

      Can you drive it only electric? My daily drive back and forth from work is around 10-15 Kms. Will I always be available to drive it only electric for these distances? I could charge it every second night.

      Not a single one of these videos is explaining how the hybrid system is working. Does it do the electric battery first and when battery is out of juice switches to fuel? And why are the companies giving out these insane mileage figures??

    • @simonpj145
      @simonpj145 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nik Siwach if you mean you do 10-15km a day that should be ok eldepending on your climate and commute. If that’s each way then every second night will be too much. It’ll do 22/23 miles on electric only around town say 36km.

    The diesel would be ideal for me since when not in lock down I do a 70 mile daily commute into a city centre. Mostly on the motorway with a few miles city driving. Can't see many buying that D hybrid tho. At that price point image is more important than saving some money on fuel. The extra cost in fuel wouldn't be much of a concern to those people.

    Both nice cars, sadly MB has a problem, the E300e plug in hybrid estate, comes as a diesel only as of 03/2021, with no immediate plans for a petrol version, according to MB a few days ago. I do not need or want a diesel, my annual mileage is under 10k. The hybrid will make it able to drive into city centres, as more cities introduce emission charges.

    Can the Diesel version run on Ethanol? To my knowledge we don't have any Diesel PHEV's in my country (US), but IMO a diesel PHEV that can run on bio is probably the best option for all situations. Diesel is available at most gas stations, the biggest problem with Diesel is particulates which are less of a problem when you have the option of using a battery for short trips within cities, and unlike Gas/Petrol, you can make fuel even after it runs out in the future.

    Shocked to hear the poor mpg figures when battery depleted. I have a Prius plug in that will do 65 - 70 mpg at 70 mph all day long with a depleted battery. Is this because Toyota build better hybrids ???

    • @siraff4461
      @siraff4461 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Its because a Prius is a smaller, lighter and more aerodynamic car with much less drag and an engine designed with efficiency specifically in mind.
      The Prius also can't do a sub 5s 0-60, isn't anywhere near as roomy, has nowhere near the amount of sound deadening, luxury equipment and all the rest.
      If MPG is all you're bothered about the Prius is a good choice.
      Oh unless you count the electric running miles from these aswell - in which case you're going to need to do a lot of long journeys for that Prius to match them.
      Every day the Mercs will start with 20 miles of electric only so you've burned a third of a gallon before they even have to start. Then if the diesel gets 50mpg and the Prius 70mpg its going to take another 70 miles to get that back meaning the shortest run you could do to break even would be 90 miles.
      Or in other words if you do more days under 90 miles than over you would be better off fuel wise in the much faster, more comfy and better equipped E-class.
      Frankly if you do more days over 90 miles you need to look at your use pattern more than what car you buy.

    • @siraff4461

      @@m.x970 For thast money I would look at a full electric for taxi in London. London is special because you drive short distances but for a long time which really suits a full electric. E class money will get you a 64kWh Soul, an i-pace or a Tesla.
      The Tesla model 3 long range makes the most sense because it has the chargers to back it up if it can't manage one of the days.
      If it was the Prius or the Mercedes only though it would be the Mercedes every time. Remember that 20 miles can also be topped up between fares if you have time and every time you do you get more cheap range.
